What car next - ageing parents with ioniq 28

The folks have had an ioniq from new for 6 years and looking for a change. They want more range, and a higher car for ease of access, the ioniq is starting to be a little low for them.

There's so many options out there compared to when we were looking six years ago when the options were leaf or ioniq!

Budget is around 25 to 30 plus the 2018 ioniq.

I was thinking Kona, but want to see what everyone else might recommend.

Nothing massive, as in ioniq is more than big enough.

What do you recommend?

Kona, Nero for similar UI, which may be an advantage. Otherwise ID.3/Born for similar easy access in a fairly neat package. A few french cars also, but have no experience of them.

A few new Chinese models also, worth a look..

They could look at the MG ZS. If they can get one is another thing

New Peugeot E-3008 coming next year supposed to have a great range.

Not really any other electric cars from Franch that are high up seating.

Opel Mokka is another option maybe.

Budget will dictate what path to take if they want to buy new. Are they considering second hand?

Crossovers so higher and small as well.

No-one ever mentions the Kia Soul EV in these types of threads. Great car, high driving position and plenty of space for a couple. Can be had for well within your parents' budget and the range is the same as the Kona and e-Niro.

A little unconventional looking but a fantastic car. Gets very little love from the general EV buying public though.

Beware the old Kona is smaller than ioniq 28kWh, very plasticy dash and specs are typically lower than ioniq 28kWh such as no adaptive cruise control as standard. The brand new Kona is bigger so check it for size

If buying brand new and say you get 10k trade in for old car that's 35-40k budget.

I like the eniro, very slightly higher, but beware its not that high compared to most SUVs.

zs probably a bit too big - they are happy enough with the ioniq but ideally would probably go a little smaller. I'll look into the Mokka

Probably not the Y - too big. which is ironic cause they spend half their time in a fiat ducato 5m motor home ;-) I'll check the atto.

They don't mind new or second hand. ioniq was new, previous car was new and before that a mix of ex demo or ancient bangers!

Sister has a kona, and they like that and would be happy with the size. It's the leading contender at the moment. Sending to Vartry Kia to klick some tyres during the week so hopefully they can get a look at a niro there.

Black with the red roof is exactly the one I have 🙂

The inlaws love it, but they are definitely a marmite car.

Not necessarily too small but it would be too low for ease of entry and exit. They are not spring chickens and not getting any springier either. it's one of the main reasons for thinking of moving from the ioniq.
