Rugby incident that IMO. Didn’t think it was a card.

He ran head down into his chest !!

Feeling the same frustration about our lineout as I was about the Ireland lineout during World Cup. It used to be such a strength for Munster now it's a lottery, especially inside either 22. Hopefully having POM back will fix it!

    From the squad update:

Diarmuid Barron will follow the graduated return to play protocols after being removed on Friday night and subsequently failing a HIA.

And Liam Coombes is to see a specialist after injuring his shoulder playing with Garryowen.

Liam Coombes can't catch a break

Colm Hogan and Eoghan Clarke were kept fairly quiet. Good to see us helping out an Irish player caught up in the Jersey sh*tshow, and also great to see an AIL player find his way to a pro contract (even if such resulted from a massive injury crisis)

Given Salanoa's injury issues wonder will they look to keep both Ryan and Archer for another season.

Wouldn't mind them looking to get a top NIQ hooker if allowed now that they've decided to bring in an IQ tight head.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I'd be keeping Ryan. Jager to back him up. Knox hasn't made a dent! I would assume if he's cheap they'll keep him. Salanoa is as cracked as Henshaw/ Carberry.

Salanoa looked really good to me when fit and oft injured doesn’t always stay injured as they get older. I definitely wouldn’t give up on him. Probably keep ryan and have him, jager and salanoa.

I like this signing. He’s IQ. I don’t expect he will he amazing but he should be solid.

If Munster could have swung an NIQ hooker this year, this could have been a real european contender imo. I’d still say more fringe contender.

Colm Hogan was involved with As etc regularly since he played age grade national teams Munster always kept close tabs on him and yeah great to see Clarke back

Only catching up on the details of the Jager deal now, starting with us in December with him signed up to the summer of 2027, that's a massive deal for him.

For Munster to offer that there must have been some interest in him from elsewhere or Munster think highly of him.

Could just be leverage given Munsters TH age/injury profiles, or just what it took to convince him to move. He's been there 10 or so years now, has a wife and from what I've read seems to be very happy there.

Jager to Munster is a great signing, Irish qualified so there's no real downside

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,520 ✭✭✭typhoony

Just to add when Ronan O' Gara was asked about Jager on off the ball he was highly positive about him and the move to Munster.

Jager will surely break into the international picture, back up to Furlong maybe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭PMC83

I hope not. He was pretty vocal about wanting to be an All Black and didn't make the cut, good signing for the club no doubt but when it comes to green he'd have to seriously impress.

Ali, Lowe and Gibson Park all wanted to be All Blacks too. Jager grew up in Ireland but didn’t make the Leinster academy so he went to NZ to make a career for himself there. Whilst he was in NZ he wouldn’t have been eligible for Ireland so his only international option was to become an All Black. He wasn’t too far away and was an important player for a great team in the Crusaders so I’d be surprised if he’s not better than Bealham.

I hope Jager works out well , but he was consistently selected behind Ala'alatoa before he left for Leinster and as solid as Ala'alatoa has been for Leinster I doubt anyone would rate him better than Bealham.

Jager has a decent bit of road to travel before being considered an Ireland prospect - It would be great if he gets there , but he's a long way off right now.

He's Irish and he's a tighthead, he'll never be too far away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭PMC83

Fair enough, but I'm not sure about not being too far away. As mentioned above he was consistently behind Ala'alatoa. Was he released or leave on his own accord?

    Strong team

Munster: Shane Daly; Calvin Nash, Antoine Frisch, Alex Nankivell, Shay McCarthy; Jack Crowley, Craig Casey; Jeremy Loughman, Scott Buckley, John Ryan; Edwin Edogbo, Tadhg Beirne; Peter O’Mahony (C), John Hodnett, Gavin Coombes.

Replacements: Chris Moore, Josh Wycherley, Stephen Archer, Tom Ahern, Jack O’Donoghue, Conor Murray, Rory Scannell, Alex Kendellen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,314 ✭✭✭✭phog

Probably forced by injury but I'm delighted to see Shay McCarty get another start and good to see Edogbo get another start, I think that's 5 from 5 this season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 802 ✭✭✭jcon1913

Surprised to see Crowley start. Read an article in the Indo saying he wouldn’t be back for a few weeks.

great to see Clarke get another chance to impress. Van Graan was very slow to start academy players so he never got a decent run at it.

Then after he moved to Jersey, Covid hit and half the academy were starting. Clarke was ahead of Barron at the time just to give context to the situation. not saying that’s still true but he’s a good addition to the squad for Munster

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,601 ✭✭✭snotboogie

There's really nobody else, unless you want to play a centre at 10 or an academy player. Decent amount riding on this game so he has to go for Crowley.

Its interesting that Rowntree is really backing Edogbo this season, seems he's jumped both Wycherly and Ahern in the pecking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 802 ✭✭✭jcon1913

No there are no other options- same if Crowley was injured Carbury is the only other real option.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,069 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

Crowley? He was never injured. I think you misread whatever was in that article.

Clarke is only back on a short term contract. He's unlikely to be retained when Scannell and Barron are fit.

Also 'half the academy' only started one game away to Wasps. Most of the other senior players were back the following week.

Sorry no, suggesting that Jager could be better than Bealham is a bit much. Bealham has been solid in the set piece at international level and offers plenty around the pitch too. He may not be in the very top tier of THPs but he is comfortably in the next tier, which populated exclusively by international level players.

Jager may be a good player he has a bit to go to match Bealham, if he gets to Bealham's level he will be an excellent signing by Munster.
