Reported drunk driver but am I wasting everyone's time?

Car mounted a footpath and almost ran me over earlier. Got him to roll down his window and asked him was he blind and was he fit to drive. He said he was and said he was sorry but had glazed eyes and slurred speech. He had come from where his car was parked up just outside a pub. I told him I'd report him and he parked up but drove off while I was on the phone. Told the Garda I had no problem giving a statement(which I don't) but would it just be a waste of time?

Waste of time unless Gardai catch him in the car.

Figured, the report was more in the hope that there was a squad car near by. It's an area of the town I often see one parked.

These type reports do get passed on to garda cars. They will.know the registered address of owner and may get there before owner makes it home.

Regularly people report very drunk people staggering out of a pub and getting into a car. These are the type of people we need to take off the road. Sometimes people follow them and update their position and direction but it's not recommended.

They can also flag the car and owner on the system in case they are stopped again and they will be aware the driver has a history and so they can go hard on them .

Far batter than catching someone a tiny bit over the limit the next morning on the way to work.

Good to be that some good could come of the phone call. Just under 24hrs now since I was told they would get back to me to make a statement. Does that process usually take long?

Yes, it can take weeks. If they caught him while driving drunk its a whole process. They also might not need your evidence if they have him tested drunk

Sorry read the op quickly. Missed the glazed eyes part.

But slurred speech is a classic stroke symptom too.
