    Just seen this.

Not bad looking at all. A bit of style even. The interior and dash all still look like hard plastics do which would hardly be surprising for how much you get for the price. The last model before its revamp was the best looking both inside and outside so far but this looks better again and I think even bigger.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I was looking at that earlier, I think its a very tidy looking motor inside and out. Unlike some of the monstrosities that BMW and the likes are coming out with.

I can't unsee the similarity with the delorean logo on the grill.

Really like the look of this. Practical, affordable, unpretentious, proper buttons and now also stylish. At a time when new car prices have gone crazy and are beyond the reach of a lot of people, this is the perfect antidote. It's going to sell in huge numbers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,226 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

Apparently as soon as they changed the logo, even on otherwise unchanged models, sales went up.

On the road for €6.50 a day! Really tempted.

In real terms, it would take you 10 years to actually buy one Duster at that price, a big deposit and balloon payment/refinance is needed to have a car for under €200 a month.

€5000 of the €24000 the car costs is covered by the €6.50 a day finance offer.

Not sure about this model, but previously the Dacia Duster fared poorly on the Euro NCAP car safety rating system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,428 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

been renting older models on holidays, not sure id purchase myself, think id rather spend a few quid more, theyre fairly cheap ould things, but in saying that, theyve been performing fairly well in off road conditions, managed to drive through a few small rivers/streams about a foot or so deep, and poor mountain roads with no problems at all, impressive for the price....

Wasn't this for pedestrian safety rather than occupancy safety?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭demello

Overall it was a poor rating, both 4 occupants and pedestrians

Was just looking at the site, on https://www.dacia.ie/cars/duster/engines.html (Petrol tab) it says:

"With their timing belts, you gain savings on your routine maintenance budget. So clever!"

What are they on about here? Belts as opposed to chains?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The new one is on the same platform as the Jogger and Sandero so should have a strong bodyshell etc. whether they add all the technology for collision avoidance etc as standard will determine the result.

When will these hit Ireland? Just a Quick Look on Dacias site it still shows the 2023 model?

this is very smart looking, but the reviews and pictures only show LHD, will RHD look the same? Previous models didn’t as far as I remember

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭stooge

The biggest issue is that it will likely be priced higher than current Duster prices. This will push it into territory of other competition. Additional cost in a market were cuts are common might hinder its sales.

Does look nice though. WRT NCAP ratings -> the 2011 model was poor enough rating and this actually decreased for occupants in the 2017 version. Pedestrian and Safety assist ratings went up between 2011 and 2017 but generally were still very poor compared to others.

As above mentioned, the rating should improve but I would not expect 5 star rating. Best to hope for would be 4 star.

I wouldnt let a low pedestrian ncap put me off a car. Sure that's not really relevant to you, the driver, anyway.

It'll still be way cheaper than it's competitors. 40k wouldn't get you a brand new SUV these days. I expect these will be around 30k brand new but I could be wrong.

From what I've heard they are expected to be launched here around July

It looks like they will be priced at around 21 - 23k in Germany which probably means 28k - 30k in Ireland

as the Jogger here is about 6k-7k more than equivalent there. However if you go for the mid range models

with half decent engine I think you will be over the 30k. While cheaper than other brands

Dacia is also increasing prices big time compared with a few years ago when you could get many of their cars including

the duster for under 20k. So much for the EU single market

If a fully loaded duster is going to be 35k for example it's still way cheaper than other brands and from any of the reviews that have been published it looks to be an extreme step up in quality, although I'd be interested in seeing it in the flesh

Seen reviews pop up on YouTube of these This is the hybrid review. Wonder what the pricing will be in Ireland probably over 30K

Of course. Everyone waiting for the next one. I have a neighbour who has a new one every year another who has a mk 1 for ages. I think they bought there last one before the mk 2 Duster came out. They must like getting end of run model deals. Maybe they will upgrade to a mk 2 when this new model comes out. I also have another neighbour who has a mk 1.

Plastic at the side looks poxy. Pity they could not integrate it into beeen colour coded like the body

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭dmigsy

Yeah, anyone who drives a car has never crossed a road and got knocked down. Or hit a pedestrian. Might be relevant if you or someone you're close to is ever unfortunate enough to be in a situation where a pedestrian is hit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,673 ✭✭✭User1998

You’d want to have seriously high morals to let a pedestrian safety rating impact your purchase decision. I’d imagine they are still way safer than anything made 20 years ago for example.

Is anyone getting fed up waiting for the new one to come to the market? I had been told by the dealership they would know by end of August when they will arrive and still nothing. What's going on 🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,282 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Reanult/Dacia do this with nearly every model release, it's normally 3 months after the initial release. They have them in the UK so I'd expect them here in the next few weeks

Are they 4x4 or only certain spec builds? What about low range transfer box?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭Luna84

I'm not sure about the new ones but the older ones were 2 or 4 wheel drive. Tbh most people do not need 4wd. No locking diffs and I'm not sure about hi or low either so more of a gimmick and extra weight with worse MPG than a 2 wheel drive variant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Wailin

Gimmick to those who don't need it alright, but useful to others, like myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,686 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Very acceptable new design. Only tainted by the comparison to original one now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

I wouldn't like the CVT hybrid, wouldn't go back to CVT again, I absolutely hated it in the Diesel B6 Audi A4 TDI and I hated it in the MK II Prius !

Shame Dacia won't sell LPG / Dual fuel cars in Ireland any more, I got cheap LPG a few Kms from me and it was that reason alone preventing me buying the Jogger, I really liked the Jogger when I sat into it so if the new Dacia is anywhere near the new Jogger I think people will be more than happy.

This is the current price list, Dacia prices are creeping up a lot. This doesn't even include the new Duster.

    https://www.dacia.ie/CountriesData/Ireland/images/PDF/pricelists/dacia_pricelist.pdf?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjY64BhCaARIsAIfc7YbCPjewyXV-Lldw1iLfiqWgq-IVYLFIOpxXYJ-3lz6NQbuIFzhUUTwaAvIqEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Of course, for now all the pics we get to see are of the hybrid with that ugly digital instrument cluster.

Interestingly, Jogger sales are down 45.46 so far this year.

    Duster is down 24.5 %.

The VW id.3 EV is down 31.1 %

A lot of car models down 25-35% I think this is to do with the massive price increases. + more people are hanging on to their cars longer, quite right too, the tax on new cars in Ireland is ridiculous and hopefully the con of PCP has finally come to an end !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭Luna84

My mother bought a Sandero Essential in 2021. The dual fuel model so LPG and it was €15,500 all in along with 6 gears. I see the new Essential model without LPG and only 5 gears is €19,585. I forget how much cheaper the Essential was without LPG back then to compare to the 19585 they are looking for now. I wonder why they changed back to a 5 speed cost maybe?

Yeah probably cost, it's rumoured that they stopped selling LPG cars to the U.K due to the collapse of LPG there and so I believe that Dacia would not make the few right hand drive cars with LPG for Ireland as a result.

The cost of cars is an absolute joke now and the ridiculous tax we have to pay the Government on new cars is a joke too despite the country having more money than ever the Government feel it necessary to continue to screw us in VAT and VRT, Carbon tax, USC and Income tax, the result of that being I won't ever be stupid enough to buy another new car again and be conned in to PCP or any other 0% interest usually only on PCP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,513 ✭✭✭BrianD3

The country is seemingly awash with money but also PCP facilitated idiocy. LPG and frugality don't seem to be on many people's radar, if Dacia struggled with LPG in the UK it was going to be worse here.

The list of top 10 best selling new cars is mostly crossovers costing an average of ~40k. The Sandero is 13th and the Jogger is nowhere, 59th. It lags behind far more expensive cars like the BMW 5 series, Volvo XC60 and others. Who is buying these cars? People working in the MNCs? The same MNCs that we are so dependent on for our tax receipts and "prosperity"?

10 year ago, the Sandero was 10k and Duster 16k. The latest cars are far better but this should always be the case for newer models without massive price hikes

We had a look around for a new car recently and Dacia duster was on our list. Test drove 2 different ones but found them to be a little bit over sized for what we needed and we came to the conclusion maybe the price was a little high for what the spec offered also so we gave it a miss. We actually overall were dumbfounded by new car prices in general and ended up just going with a second hand Toyota hybrid Japanese import instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

New car prices are insane and the higher the price the higher the tax which is extortionate , I mean there's no other way to describe tax on cars or fuel tax, carbon tax in Ireland !

The level of debt people are willing to get into for a car in Ireland is truly astounding, and it has to have the highest spec, has to have digital this and digital that !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 563 ✭✭✭CliffHangeroner

Was pretty hard for us to find a newer car without a massive screen placed right in the dashboard but we got one in the end. Still can't get my head around how they are legal those screen are very dangerous for a driver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Yes they are but I'm seen as being backward for saying this, I mean a small screen for Navigation , that's fine but when the screen is large and the focal point of the car, that's a problem because I've been passenger in cars where people are constantly looking at the screen or playing with the instrument cluster menus etc but because screen attraction is so serious and widespread few people see and issue with it.

Worse is when the screen controls many of the functions in the car.

Big TFT screens are common even on Motorbikes now with Android auto and Apple Car play, spotify etc, yes, on a motorbike, this is pure insanity and I refuse to buy a bike like that and worst of all is it's not optional.

I'm not anti tech by any means, I got all the gadgets but there are times I want to be separated from it and one reason I got into Motorcycling is because it's just man and machine out in the open enjoying the ride nothing to distract me just my thoughts or focus on riding and thankfully there's Triumph and Royal Enfield and one or two others still making bikes with very little tech.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 563 ✭✭✭CliffHangeroner

I've a 2007 Gsxf 750 old school tacho and speedo all the way 👌 I seen a Chinese bike recently Cfmoto i think it was and it had an actual 10 inch tablet on the bars to show you everything in place of clocks. Madness on a motorbike a lot of crashes are due to silly stuff on a bike like mode buttons, built in sat nav etc… that takes the riders attention away. Same applies for cars but the consequences are much more final on a motorbike.

Nothing backward about that thinking btw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Oh I've been called out for been so backward and out of date on boards many times over my stance on screens in cars, even the bloody instrument clusters in cars now have so many options you can change on the fly when driving that's even before you touch the infotainment system.

I rode the CF Moto CLX 700 I think it is for the test, instructors bike, didn't like it, it was uncomfortable after an hour never mind a 2 hr lesson, it had a small round LCD display, hated it and the indicator button is awkward to use and I could have failed my test because of it, the instructors said " what was going on with the indicators ?" so I told him so he can be aware of it when others are doing their test. It did ride well and nice exhaust note from stock exhaust but I'd be killed over 1 hr on it.

I had one lesson before on the CBF600 and loved it, it was far more comfortable, after a 2 hr lesson without stopping I was not tired or suffering any discomfort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭Luna84

My own car has a small screen but you do not have to look at it as it still has the knobs and buttons for a/c or heating. But mind you I do get distracted at times while messing with settings on the small screen on instrument cluster. When I say distracted just a rare occasion I wanted to see something. Like you say though it is dangerous as you are looking down and up and down so your eyes are off the road even if it is only for a split second. Say you were looking at settings and the car coming towards you was also looking and you both slightly swerve over the line at the same time and bam. All it takes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Yes I have the small screen in the car but it is a distraction if Apple Car play is on so I don't use it and only use it for nav, I don't bother listen to music much while driving anyway these days.

Imagine all the people on their phones while driving, I'd say it's the cause of a lot of accidents.
