    Great day for Cavan football,

Congrats to Arva on winning the Ulster JFC, didn't see it ,but I've been told other than a 10 minute period in second half they, were much the superior team. They will take some stopping in the All Ireland semi final...

Terrific win from our lads in Omagh,

Didn't make it easy,5 missed goal chances,a ridiculous point given against us aswell, but a powerful last 10 -15 minutes done the job.

Aaron Watson was the MOM for me ,he was outstanding,

Brian O Rourke had his best game in the championship by far this year, and showed why he was drafted into the county squad last year.

Michael Brady was outstanding aswell, he just constantly produced 7/8 out of 10 performances.

Kevin Tierney outstanding also, getting back his best aswell, he had a huge impact

David Brady took a while to get into the game and had good and bad moments in first 40 minutes, but he just turned it on in the last twenty showing his class... I'd rather see him closer to goal than out deeper, he's a mismatch for most full backs at this level, too big and too athletic.

Sean McCormack also made a huge impact in last 15 minutes when he came on.

Highlight for me though was 18 year old Evan Crowe putting manners on Eoin Bradley, whom was running riot before the switch, Bradley spent most of the second half mouthing rather than playing football.

Crowe is a future county senior full back starter all day for me.

Cullyhanna are favourites to make the final, against Liatroim of Down and they alongside Pomeroy whom they defeated were favourites for the competition from the start,so the final will be a big step up in class.

Last point, I hope ourselves or no Cavan team have any dealings with Glenullin for the foreseeable, you won't come across a more unlikeable shower, anywhere than them.

A great win for Arva. They were a level above Junior football but it was there to be won. Ciaran Brady was excellent. Play the Leinster winners in All Ireland semi.

Intermediate game was faster paced then the Junior game. Eoin Bradley was a handful in the first half but Glenullin were very reliant on him. Ballyhaise have 4 or 5 capable scorers. Tierney kicked a few great points and the Brady's. Glenullin kicked a score in the second half which was clearly wide. Just as well the game didn't finish level.

Just about antics of Glenullin. Ballymaguigan were no angels against Arva and one of their players hit an official. The Derry teams don't take defeat well

Arva should have had that game wrapped up long before they did. Some poor shooting kept Blackhill in it. When Bouchier kicked 3 in a row they looked like they were going to pull away but the missed penalty gave Blackhill life. I thought McCabe had a poor enough game by his own standards.

Ciaran the Holla was immense. His speed, ball carrying, ability to draw the free, kick big scores off right and left were outstanding. It will take a serious team to stop Arva now.

Great to see Ballyhaise get across the line, it looked like another hard luck story in the making. It was brilliant to see two teams going at each other without being too concerned about defensive systems. Ballyhaise kept plugging away and were deserved winners.

If they sharpen up their finishing for the final they will be hard stopped, they have a serious amount of power particularly from midfield forward.

David Brady taking the game by the scruff of the neck when it was there to be won, fantastic stuff. Massive potential underage, terrible luck with injury but stuck at it and lighting it up now when the chips were down in a big Ulster game, you love to see it.

Glen weren't that impressive against NC. Gowna would probably have given them a good rattle. NC didn't score in the the first 20 minutes after some awful shooting, but grew into the game. Glen don't really have a stand out inside forward like Scotsown have with Jack McCarron.

Isn’t it a pity Gowna weren’t there yesterday evening , they would have rattled glen, imagine having had 3 teams reach the final it would have been some achievement for Cavan football.

Big congratulations to arva on winning the junior title and on Ballyhaise on reaching the final.

Who do Arva play next in the semis?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭rrs

They play the winners of Miltown of Kildare or Glyde Rangers from Louth. They play in the Leinster final next Saturday

  • Registered Users Posts: 623 ✭✭✭KeepTheFaith

I believe they play the UK Champions next, then the winners play Leinster Champs.

Forgot about the UK winners. That should be a routine win.

There have been occasions where they are particularly strong. A Liverpool side made the final a few years ago. But yeah, hard to see Arva getting turned over there.

Ray Galligan will likely be without the Arva players for the early part of the League, and maybe the Ballyhaise players.

  • Registered Users Posts: 502 ✭✭✭Thunderbirds

He might have the Ballyhaise lads. By all accounts Cullyhanna are a senior team.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭rrs

Cullyhana with a big win today. Aidan Nugent, Jason Duffy, Ross McQuillan were involved with Armagh this year

The commentary mentioned during the Ballyhaise game that a few clubs in Ulster want the grading changed for participating in the Ulster Club. A proposal supposedly gone into the Ulster Council about Arva playing Division 1 football and Glenullin not being promoted after winning Derry intermediate last year

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,058 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

The same could be said about Ballyhaise at this point. They have played senior League the last couple of years at least iirc, performing well, and won the intermediate at the third attempt so have been at the higher end of it every year.

They also have quite a few players who are involved with the county panel (David Brady, Gary O’Rourke, Brian O’Rourke), some who were previously (Sean McCormack, Kevin Tierney) and others who are now going in (Crowe). I could easily be leaving some out there from each category also.

It’s great to see Cavan clubs performing well and it’s a real case of what might have been for Gowna but it does show they are at the pitch of the competition it appears.

What was the story with Keoghan anyway in Crosserlough have heard they weren't happy with the coach he wanted to bring in?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭celt262

Liam Maguire new Lavey manager with 6 in back room team including Colin Malone and Andre Quinn who wouldn't be in there for love off Lavey.

The coach was from Tyrone. Was it that they were unhappy with the finances involved? A lot of money going into club teams
