Just wondering if TAMs offers grants to replace shed roofs? I have been reading through the list of eligible items and have seen nothing in relation to roofs. Unfortunately the needles from the Sitkas have rusted the hell out of the roof

Don’t believe so. I have an old slatted shed with the old asbestos sheets. It a big enough shed and needs to be reroofed. I contacted “specialists” about taking the asbestos away… got a quote for €10k😳

it would be great if there was a grant for this… there a a good few she’d like this around me with the same issue.

Are you mandated to have some type of safety frame now below perspex sheeting?

On topic of roofs, just wondering if anyone knows reason for my slatted shed roof (also out buildings) constantly dripping inside, timbers look very dark / wet? Always water marks on the concrete slab but visibly water dripping.

Are they old sheds? Poor ventilation? Maybe the sheets are rusted badly where the sheets are nailed down.

Where can I see an image of what they look like? I seen one which was builders rebar sheeting stapled to under side of the stick - didn't think that was a good idea. It's prefer to see it between the stick and the tin. Some seemed to be on outside.

I tried Google but didn't get any info.

I did it for the FIL a few years back when we replaced a few skylights that were blown out. Just use straight rebar with the last 6 inches bent at a 90 and slide down between the sheeting and timber, leave it long enough that it sits on 2 of the boards with a good long overhang. You could bend the lower end again when it's up with a pipe to make it double-safe, but there should be no need really. We put it on every third corrugation. Have no photos unfortunately but next time I'm up there I'll get them if I think of it.

I don't think so. I have an old asbestos sheet shed with slatted roof. It needs to be reroofed and is a large enough shed.

What is wrong with the asbestos on the roofs that it needs to be replaced? We’ve one here (not a slatted shed) around 70 years old and it’s still good.

Not very old, slatted house 12yrs maybe. Sheets don't look rusty and vents in side of shed and plenty of ventilation at roof level. Shed always dripping inside when raining and some timbers black looking wet.

Yeah usually something along those lines

Some tool roofed a section of a shed here with secondhand sheeting .....holes were in it going up, they are on the high point and near the guttering ...can't see from ground level as view of holes obscured by guttering ....anyway holes rusted and chunks of the sheeting below as thin thin as paper...bits falling into the gutter, its accelerated the rusting....timbers below soaked sheeting soaked....spent a good bit of last month replacing sections of sheeting and guttering

Balls of a job all down to a total chancer who should've been watched everyday on the job.

Water must be getting in somehow....you need to get a good close up look within and without

I have dark looking timbers in some sheds with cobwebs, dust and all sorts on them....but they are dry and sound

If yours are wet all the time (even with little or no stock in?) Then water is getting in somewhere.....if sheets OK and no rust holes then it's getting in further up and travelling down etc

It's surprising that replacing old roofs isn't an option, plus would be safer to have it done by professionals rather than lads going up going multiple small repairs
