Don't see the appeal of these kind of programmes. Why would anyone other than the people appearing in it themselves or their friends/family be bothered watching?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Watched a bit of this on Sunday, some of them didn't seem that fit tbh.

Granted I didn't see it all

I followed this last year and enjoyed it, last night's episode was joyless the course was horrendous, felt sorry for all the families, the lucky ones were the families that were eliminated last week.
A good idea for a family TV show butchered.

Some of the families seem slightly "unhinged" IMHO

Mairead? What about Anna Geary?.....she is stunning.

Tough exercise last night with the 4 lads and the race through mud.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,121 ✭✭✭Expunge

It's the most cliched pile of poo I have seen.
The coaches - Davy, Quinlan and the camogie lady just kept saying, in various ways, I want to win, I hate to loose etc.

Only Jayo came across to me as not being an automaton for winning at all costs.

Sunday evening entertainment on RTE, Jaysus wept.

There's something odd about all the families......

True but the only trouble is she also thinks so herself. She probably reads this thread to see how many people say how fine she is.An ego the size of Mount Everest.

Quite enjoying this. The "mentor" format is old and tired and not adding anything, but the competition element is really keeping my interest.

Tough break for the Davorens in that race. Although they looked like they were being overtaken.

I loved watching those O'Brien Devine boys run - they had the most amazing stride!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,439 ✭✭✭Boots234

Brilliant finish to win the last race, I thought the O'Brien Devines had lost it

    Thought it was good TV.
Can't say I Enjoy any reality type stuff on TV but enjoyed this.
Well done to RTE on this.

They were being overtaken, but jaysus, after 3 appearances maybe this show just isn't for them.

The show itself has become as bad as the X-factor for all the non competition stuff in between, you can literally watch all the events within 15 minutes if you record it and fast forward through all the talkie bits.

I really thought they'd do it this time.

Bad move tactically (in hindsight, obviously!) to have the girl in front behind the bar - she's obviously going to be the slowest/weakest and what happened to Nicole is the result of falling out of line with her brother. But then, it didn't happen to the other family who had the female in front (can't remember which ones it was) so what do I know!

Loved the show each time, but yes the amount of waffle is most annoying.

Wonder will the Farrens do a Davorens, and reappear next time (assuming there is a next time)? The Dad certainly wasn't ruling it out!

I was up for the Farrens or the Davorens. I can't stand people with double barrelled names

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭smunchkins

Fair play to the O'Brien Devines. They were a great family to watch and seemed really surprised and pleased to be the winners. Oh, and they didn't have double barrelled names, mum was O'Brien, the boys were Devines and I thought the programme did a great job of including both to make things equal.

Great final, I picked the winners two weeks ago!

The Davern girl was lucky not to get hurt, I was surprised no one seen the danger running in front of that thing + yea they weren't gonna qualify in that round.

    Agree.
Mum and dad have separated so the mother has gone back to her maiden name of O Brien....only double barrelled for the TV show.

Is back this Sunday at 6.30 on RTE1.

Wonder will the Daverns be in it again?

    Anyone watching this series?

Can't figure out if it's new or not - lots of the teams look really familiar, but it's on in the prime-time usual slot, where I wouldn't expect a repeat to be shown

    Ah c'mon, it's RTE :D:D

It's definitely a repeat - I saw an advert last week looking for families for this year's new one so it will be a while off yet I'd say.

Have to say i admire them for doing that.

They still had 2 males vs the other family's 2 females.

I think they knew they couldn't win and just wanted to do the course. Fair play to them

Haven't really been following this year but they just had the most pointless round on there with a double hang tough ladies only second time.
First team broke the IFF record and were about 4 minutes ahead of each of the others. Even if they didn't compete there is no way any of the contestants would have held on for 4 minutes.pointless tiring people out.guess what,1st team through others face off in the eliminator, net result of the round-a few minutes filler for RTE

    They were seperate events

Curiously, they often don't show the tables after events so we can see who came top.

The ladies only was not a timed event so didnt matter how many minutes it went on for, First to fall only got one point, second to fall got 2 and last female hanging got 3 points so it still could have went any way as for the first time ever on the IFF in the first event tonight no team got any points so after event 2 the families were on 3, 2 & 1 points - that actually maybe why they had to throw in an extra challenge as its always based on 2 events - will be interesting next week to see if they have the female only challenge in it

Really enjoyed IFF this season. It was a good achievement for Donnacha to get both his teams to the final. The final challenge was neck and neck until the last barrier, it could have gone either way. Well done to the Beirne’s on their victory.

Davey Fitz and his intensity makes for great TV, at times I thought he could have a heart attack with all his shouting and roaring. RTÉ don’t kill themselves with the prize money, only €15k for first and nothing for the other finalists.

Funny probably my least favourite season, think they hadn't as many families going for it

Would love if they did a celebrity special or irelands fittest club team or county made up of 4 people or workplace etc and expand the idea outside of families. Would love to see four lads from two different counties panels for example complete against each other

It would be interesting to see different sports clubs against each other. Maybe have two males and two females on each team.

The way Davey Fitz and his intensity makes great TV I hope RTE makes a reality show with him coaching Wexford GAA team.

I thought it was a great final too but really the Smyths should have gone last in the jeep pull. They were leading the competition coming into that round but the other families knew what they had to beat to get through to the final

Are you saying that the Smyths could have done it faster if they'd known they needed to?

Or that the other families said to themselves "we've 1.15 to beat (or whatever the time was), lets get in just 3 seconds under"

They all bust a gut doing it, and the Smyths were slowest.

Ya I think they could have gone faster if they had a target to beat. They might still have come last but they would have had more of an advantage by going third

Why do RTE persist with her? She is incredibly annoying and incapable of speaking without shouting.

In fairness she's a reasonably good presenter, but why she feels the need to shriek to the point of endangering the crystal, I do not know. I can't imagine what she thinks it adds to her presentation.

This is a stupid round IMO, it’s Ireland’s Fittest Family not Ireland Fittest Family with the best head for heights

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,696 ✭✭✭Lisha

Ireland’s fittest family is worth watching for Donnacha O Callaghan’s reactions alone. He is so (unintentionally I think) funny

A very tough task to go out on I think for most families. You could go well in that height task and not be fit at all. Or even fail height task miserably and bE very fit
