I note you don't address the huge gap in the quality of receivers.

It's like you think that has nothing to do with it when it's huge

    21-10 patriots HT.

    You noted incorrectly.

You must not have read my post to the end, in my last line I address exactly that and I even broadened it out beyond receivers and said pass catchers because the 49ers are better at TE and RB also.

I've said from the first comment that 49ers have a slightly better OL in pass protection, but where they have a significantly bigger advantage is coaching, pass catchers, and their run game.

    Apologies, I missed that.

I've said all along that I rate Purdy highly, I think he should be a serious contender for MVP but I guess the powers that be don't want Mr Irrelevant winning it early in his career. That's the only reason I can think of for him not being one of the strong favourites.

I firmly believe the 49ers line is a good bit better but it's not the whole reason for Purdy's great play. His movement in the pocket, his great footwork, buys him a lot more time. He reminds me of Tom Brady in that way.

My only point is that in the situation that Mac Jones finds himself you just cannot profile him.. Even Patrick Mahomes would struggle in that situation, not to the extent Jones has but still I couldn't see him having a winning season. Mahomes is unbelievable but he's struggled this year because of the poor quality of receivers. He's got a great one in Kelce but nobody else.

I'm pretty confident that Mac's time in New England is done. If he finds himself as a backup on a team with a good offensive line and the starter gets injured it wouldn't surprise me if he comes in and shows he has it.

As you know I'm a huge Patriots fan, I don't walk away when times are tough. I experienced tough times before we turned into the dominant franchise we became for twenty years.

A lot of Patriots fans have awful opinions of Jones but I don't. I'm not one that goes against a player just becaise things aren't going well. You have to look at the big picture and for me when you look at the dreadful offensive line and the poor quality of receivers then you can't put it all on the QB.

The one time the offensive line did their job this year Mac had a good game with no ints.

Zappe got a great performance from them last night and looked decent.

Week 14 TV listings. Nightowls note that you've a choice of 2 games in the Monday night slot. Sadly Sky have them both behind paywall. Channel 5 UK are showing both according to their listings. On one channel. I'm dubious, but we'll see.

    Sunday

Rams at Ravens 6pm Sky Sports.

Bills at Chiefs 9.20pm Sky Sports.

    Late Sunday/Monday am

Eagles at Cowboys 01.20am Sky Sports.

    Late Monday/Tuesday am

Titans at Dolphins 01.20am Sky Sports and Channel 5 UK.

Packers at Giants 01.20am Sky Sports and Channel 5 UK.

Cowboys are all over the Eagles. The Cowboys have improved over the last six weeks but I feel the Eagles are struggling for the last while. 49ets will lead the conference after tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,384 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Two poor performances in a row from the eagles. Not sure what to say and what’s worse is tonight was against the **** cowboys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The Cowboys are improving all the time, the Eagles have been below par for a couple of weeks now.

Offensive line isn't as good as it was before then.

The defense has fallen apart, giving up 33 points last night, 42 last week and 37 the week before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes giving out about the off side call on Toney last night.

They were talking about warnings, offensive players get one if it looks like a slight infringement and then flagged if they do it again.

This wasn't a slight infringement, he's miles offside.

What's worse is he's looking straight across and has to know it.

NFC is very top heavy. The few teams that are in with a chance are incredibly strong on their day.

Ravens and Dolphins are leading the Afc but have bigger question marks but there are 11 Afc teams with winning records.

Right now it feels like the Afc has more depth but the top teams in the NFC might be better.

Not sure I ever expected to see a 3-0 scoreline in the nfl with modern rules.

3-0...hope the tickets were at least cheap! You could have got Saints Panthers tickets yesterday for 4 dollars!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 627 ✭✭✭Kev8360

Yep it also doesn't look like Toney checked with the line judge that he was good (only saw the replay and not the pre snap so could be wrong). I didn't hear them saying the unnecessary roughness penalty shouldn't have been called last week for them against the packers when Mahomes was hit clearly inbounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I think the Bills are the strongest team in the AFC. It'll be very difficult for them to win through on the road though.

I don't know what happened to them mid-season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,156 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Absolutely embarrassing response from the Chiefs.

They've had so many calls go their way over the last few years and they now decide to make a huge deal when they are clearly in the wrong.

These outbursts by them points to things not being right in their lockeroom. That or they are trying to resort to 'the world is against us' siege mentality to boost the pretty dire performances lately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

All I can say about tonight is unbelievable.

Something happened tonight that hasn't happened in that situation for 757 games I believe they said. That was in the Dolphins v Titans game.

Biggest comeback win within 3 mins when it doesnt go to OT I think it was.

Crazy game, Im in india at the moment, so go the 2nd half. Assumed the titans were goosed tbh

Some defensive injuries and they have a tendency to lean on Josh Allen making a miracle play far too early. Sometimes you can just play better football than weaker teams without it. Haven't watched them much since the OC change though. It left them with a lot of yards but not a lot of FGs to show for it.

Mahomes and Reid have backed out of their statements a bit. Either PR team got to them or they were far too emotional after losing a game winning play to a call that they had rarely (never?) heard in a football game before.

AFC South teams in the play off hunt lose to Flacco, Zach Wilson and Jake Browning. AFC South team not in the play off hunt beats the Dolphins and Tua. Always fun times.

Cracking set of results for those of us who are 'neutral' this season because our team is already eliminated. Hopefully there'll be lots still to be decided on Week 18 (was a bit of a bleak slate last year)

Dallas keep the pressure on Philly and technically lead the NFC East - though if the Eagles win out then they will take it on Conference record so the current Dallas lead is a bit false. Eagles have a reasonably soft run-in.

49ers have NFW West almost locked up, but likely need to win out to keep #1 seed.

NFC South, 3 teams tied top at 6-7 so lots to play for even if the quality isn't great.

NFC North. Vikings 2 games back on the leaking Lions but still have to play them twice so very much in their own hands.

In the AFC West, incredibly the Broncos are now just one game behind the Chiefs. Kansas have a soft enough run in, but slip up and they could yet be a wild-card team!

AFC South, Jaguars have just a one game lead on the Texans and Colts.

AFC North. Ravens looking good for the win and #1 seed, but the other 3 teams are all over 500.

AFC East. Dolphins still heavily favoured with 2 game lead, but suddenly there's a chance that the Bills could catch them, especially with them playing each other in week 18. Both have tough games before that.

Miami have beaten nobody, I'm not sure they have beaten a team who had a winning record when they met them.

They finish with the Cowboys, Ravens and Bills. I think they'll lose all three.

    Week 15 TV Games - Part 1.

Three Saturday games with the first two at nice times for us. And it's a decent looking slate of games with all six teams in the mix for division wins or play-off places.

    Late Thursday/Friday am

Charges at Raiders 01.20am Sky Sports.

    Saturday

Vikings at Bengals 6pm Sky Sports.

Steelers at Colts 9.20pm Sky Sports.

    Late Saturday/Sunday am

Broncos at Lions 01.20am Sky Sports.

Cowboys v Bills on Sun should be a belter. Would like to See Bills win

Easton Stick v Aidan O'Connell on TNF. Tempting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,625 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Any particular reason there are so many Saturday games? Seems like it is a busy weekend for College football also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

I think they'd probably do this most of the season if they were allowed (but they are not permitted to clash with regular college season). There was 3 games on the equivalent Saturday last season as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I don't think anybody, not even a lunatic, could have predicted the score at halftime in this one.

    42-0 Raiders.

Aidan O'Connell is averaging under 200 passing yards per game on the season, his best game was 270 yards. The most passing TDs he's had in a game is one, he has four in this game and 198 passing yards I'm one half.

This is the same Raiders team who scored zero points last Sunday.

I expect at some stage tomorrow to read that Brandon Staley has been fired.

I think he was on the verge of it but this should be the end of him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 627 ✭✭✭Kev8360

Not in a million years did I expect that score line last night. The only headline less believable would be brandon Staley still having a job tomorrow

  • Registered Users Posts: 832 ✭✭✭Prefab Sprouter

So I stayed up to watch the game and held in there till halftime. Its been a long time since I've seen us play such consistent football in all 3 phases. The Chargers honestly didnt know what hit them. Considering that we had a patched up O-line I was expecting Mack to set up shop in our backfield. Antonio Pierce may not be Head coach next season but he still has the locker room, which is more than I can say for Staley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,384 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I turned it off just after the raiders went 21-0 as I was confident they’d win and I picked them to win. Never did I think the score would be what it ended up being though. The only thing that might save Staley is that he’s having to play without Justin Herbert.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The fact that they were bad with Herbert, Allen and Ekeler out him on the hot seat. What happened last night puts it over the top.

He is not only responsible for a playbook that will work for the starters, he's also responsible for drafting replacements too.

They were already bad heading into last night. There's no way a roster with that talent such have been 5-8 before that thumping.

In the least surprising news, Brandon Staley has been fired alongside GM, Tom Telesco

I did say might save him and given the news that’s breaking I was too optimistic.

I feel bad for Khalil Mack, he really has spent his whole career on teams with shoddy coaches. Would love to see him go somewhere he could have a late career run at the super bowl

Week 15 TV Listings Part 2

The 9pm game has been rock-solid for the last few weeks and another epic looking one tonight. Think I'll be red-zoning the 6pms.

    Sunday

Buccaneers at Packers 6pm Sky Sports.

Cowboys at Bills 9.25pm Sky Sports.

    Late Sunday/Monday am

Ravens at Jaguars 01.20am Sky Sports.

    Late Monday/Tuesday am

Eagles at Seahawks 01.15am Sky Sports and Channel 5 UK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Lions and Goff looked super-impressive again last night completing a sweep of the AFC West teams. I really hope they win a play-off game.

Steelers looked dismal, hard to see Tomlin keeping his winning season record from here (currently 7-7 with Bengals, Seahawks, Ravens to come).

Bengals Vikings was lots of fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,384 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

The cowboys returned to their natural form. And I love to see it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Yeah, when they come up against a good defense it happens. Dak can't play against a good defense, the offensive line can't hold up against one either.

I'd love to know what happened to the Bills mid-season. I think they are the best team in the AFC but it'll be very difficult for them to keep winning on the road in the playoffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I really fancy the Ravens to beat the Jags comfortably.

    Looking forward to the game.

Tomorrow night is very interesting too. The Eagles seem to be just treading water at the minute. Seahawks coming off a decent enough performance in defeat to the 49ers. It could be a close game unless the Eagles get back in top gear.

McCaffrey was unreal again today, I mean just in a different level, I know MVP is always QB strong but my god McCaffrey has been out of this world. I just wish Shanahan would not use him as much, give him some rest and take him out earlier when you know you are going to win, typical Shanahan though, he just pushes guys hard, it will hurt him eventually this year when one of the main guys gets a dumb injury at a time of the game when they shouldn’t be in, I just know it 🤦‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Yeah McCaffrey and Hill have been on a different planet this year.

McCaffrey will make the 2k yards from scrimmage. Hill has the chance to be the first to ever have 2k receiving yards.

Whichever of them doesn't get OPOY will be disappointed to say the least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

As I said last night, Eagles treading water and they couldn't stay up tonight.

Seahawks only got in front for the first time late in the fourth quarter. Huge win for them, massive loss for the Eagles. No chance of the no.1 seed now and they can't make a mistake over the final three games or they could lose the division.

  • Registered Users Posts: 320 ✭✭myate

CMC has told Shanahan that he wants in, all the time, because of all the time he missed with injury...then he went on to explain every injury he had & it had nothing to do with wear & tear. Shanahan doesn't get guys injured. The team as a whole plays balls to the wall every play...stuff happens. Gregory pushed a guy, he fell over onto Bosa, was that Shanahan? CMC banged his knee against a player early...late hit on Purdy...none of that was Shanahan.

Thank you Seahawks! Niners game in hand for no.1 seed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,384 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

The eagles are like a slow motion car crash. It’s not good. Even the offense which was something that could be relied on is just fucked up now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,894 ✭✭✭hynesie08

Hard to see past a Ravens Niners Superbowl at this stage, I think the Ravens are better than the Bills and the Chiefs and the Niners are far and away the best team in the NFC. Dallas and Philadelphia both showed who they really are this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Bills when at their best are no.1 in the AFC, that's because Mahomes doesn't have good receivers.

The Bills are back to their best. Their problem is they will be on the road all through the playoffs.

Ravens currently are the no.1 seeds but it's not certain. They have the 49ers, Dolphins and Steelers, with Pickett, in Pittsburgh to finish the season.

The Dolphins defense, which is packed with talent, seems to be getting it's act together. They are one hell of a scary outfit if their defense starts to perform.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Carcharodon

Iam not saying things don’t happen outside his control but in certain games when you have a clear lead and control of the game, you need to take players out even if they want to play, there is obviously more chance of injury the more minutes you play. And also we got decent backups that could do with more game time both to spread the load and gain more game reps in case they are needed due to injury

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Rams go 8-7, Giants next week should put them 9-7, the the niners come to town in the final week. They could already have the no.1 seed in and you wouldn't know if that could mean resting their best players.

I think if they make it to the playoffs they are very dangerous. The offense is humming and I think that defense is one that'll keep improving.

Just thinking about that Carolina draft trade with Chicago. They draft Darnell Wright and Tyrique Stevenson with the two picks thru got from them. For the life of me I do not know how DJ Moore was valued so lowly to be included with two first round picks.

So Moore, Wright, Stevenson and the first pick in the '24 draft. That's one hell of a sweet deal for the Bears.

Question now is whether the Bears decide to move on from Fields. Personally I'm not sure, I'd have done it three months ago without hesitation but he has looked better since he came back from the injury.

I still think I'd be leaning towards moving on though.

The debate in bears fanland is getting very heated on that question. It's related to the question of whether to fire eberflus too. Some people want both gone, others want one or the other gone. The GM has a tough decision. The one thing everyone agrees on is that the offensive coordinator is gone. Personally I would be ok with eberflus and Fields staying (absolutely wanted flus gone earlier in the year but he's built a good defense since) and a trade back in the draft, but I can see the temptation to go with a new QB with huge potential on a rookie contract. I just don't know. But we have a hell of a draft coming up.
