Last year SCT hooker? He looked a beast alright. The skeehan connection working well for Terenure with gunne, mcirlan there too.

McLaughlin to 13 was second hand information, thought he had only been fullback myself. Person telling me could have been mistaken

interesting to see some of the high profile under-19s that are out of school are included in 19s squad:

Calvey, Stewart, Yarr, Spicer, McCarthy, Murphy, Farthing, Hicks.

One of those is destined to end up at Cornish Pirates

That he isn't in 20s for now is possibly a good thing. A lot of talk/pressure on him with his size etc. He could be added/named to 20s next month may not but no harm if he isnt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 724 ✭✭✭Hey_Ho_Lets_Go_3

barring injury he will be in there.

interesting that Alex Usanov not in irish 19s squad, was there in october.. Probably a certainty for 20s squad.

Will Wooton is an interesting one that I didn’t expect to see, brother of Alex, was involved with England U18 last season. He is a scrum half not an outside back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,010 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Surprised Bryan Walsh isn't involved, was in the u18 schools squad last year.

  • Strange look alright to see 4/4 locks in the U19 squad all coming from Leinster.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,342 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

There are always injuries and squads always change year to year a little bit. Leinster also have a couple of good players missing I believe.

    bryan walsh is injured.

McCarthy could play lock too as could Coghlan but better suited to backrow for me.

Pleasantly surprised by the Ulster representation given how poorly our inter pro teams have performed lately. Squads will be whittled down probably, but at least there’s something to look forward to

Lukas Kenny out for 8 weeks with a broken ankle- a blow but should be back just before the 6 nations

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,544 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

Huge caveat, as you’d rather have 2 really good players per underage squad than just numbers but munster should be happy with those. I feel like 11 per squad is a realistic max for munster or ulster.

I’m pretty hyped about ulster numbers in the upcoming u20s. You would think we would get at least 9/10.

  • Registered Users Posts: 204 ✭✭ljsulster

Should end up if all are fit with the following:

    Jacob Boyd

    Zac Solomon

    Flynn Longstaff

    Joe Hopes

    James Mckillop

    Tom Brigg

    Josh Stevens

    Bryn Ward

    Ben Mcfarlane

    Ethan Graham

    Lukas Kenny

  • This would be a pretty sizeable number, considering Leinster were champions at U19 level in 2022, and will also figure on having the lions share of this squad.

From that Leinster team you’d probably expect all of:

    Hugo McLaughlin

    Sam Berman

    Wilhelm de Klerk

    Jules Fenelon

    Tom Larke

    Jack Murphy

    Oliver Coffey

    Stephen Smyth

    Andrew Sparrow

    Adam Deay

    Michael Colreavy

    Mikey O’Reilly

to make the team, with another few possibles too (plus a few guys who were with Leinster then but have left like Tom Brigg and maybe Finn Treacy).

Munster will expect, at a minimum:

    Ben O’Connor

    Evan O’Connell

    Danny Sheahan

    Jacob Sheahan

    Brian Gleeson

with guys like Sean Edogbo also strong possibilities.

Harder to see as many nailed on guys from Connacht, who were pretty abject at U19 level last year and shipped big beatings from Leinster and Ulster.

    Something like:

    5 Props

    • Jacob Boyd(Ulster)
    • Flynn Longstaff(Ulster)

    3 Hookers

    • Stephen Smyth(Leinster)
    • Danny Sheahan(Munster)
    • Zac Solomon(Ulster)

    4 Locks

    • Evan O'Connell(Munster)
    • Joe Hopes(Ulster)
    • Alan Spicer(Leinster)
    • James McKillop(Ulster)

    5 Backrows

    • Brian Gleeson(Munster)
    • Josh Stevens(Ulster)
    • Jacob Sheahan(Munster)
    • Sean Edogbo(Munster)
    • Michael Colreavy(Leinster)

    4 Centres

    • Hugh Gavin(Connacht)
    • Sam Berman(Leinster)
    • Will De Klerk(Leinster)

    5 Back Three

    • Ben O'Connor(Munster)
    • Hugo McLaughlin(Leinster)
    • Lukas Kenny(Ulster)
    • Ethan Graham(Ulster)
    • Ben McFarlane(Ulster)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,632 ✭✭✭snotboogie

From a Munster perspective to add possibles to the list above; O'Riordan (scrum half), Kiely, Pepper and Condon (all back 3 players) were training with the senior squad and are 20's qualified. Edogbo will also be interesting, it seems he's leapfrogged Sheahan for both UCC and Munster this season but having watched a handful of UCC games, Sheahan is a far more Ritchie Murphy type player.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,544 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

I’ll believe only 13 leinster guys when i see it. The depth of talent in leinster, i’d guess 15 minimum.

It seems like a very deep year though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,544 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

Are the novaks involved? I noticed that they are playing for cork con. I think they are u20 this year.

Edogbo is an interesting one. If he doesn’t make this team, i’d say he’s still pretty much a lock for munster academy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,632 ✭✭✭snotboogie

They are listed as in the sub academy but I haven’t seen them at any of the development games or in squad pictures but I could have missed them. Kiely featured twice for the senior team in pre season so he may have a good shot.

id be shocked. will be doing well to get highlights.

  • I believe both of them are only recently back from ACL injuries. I could be wrong with my timing but I do recall hearing that both of them had done ACLs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 724 ✭✭✭Hey_Ho_Lets_Go_3

looks like Brian Gleeson may be skipping irish 20s.

  • It might be no harm. We know what he can do at that level. I'd love to see us go down the route of the French approach when it comes to U20's. Leave your stronger players with their clubs during the 6N to get gametime and then go all out for the U20 World Cup that summer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 204 ✭✭ljsulster

If true that leaves Bryn Ward to start at 8 likely

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,544 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

What are you basing this on? Have you heard a squad?
