Medical card query

Sorry to hear about your friend, you don't mention if she has a Full Medical Card or if she's a private patient.

If she has a full Medical Card & attending a public hospital as a public patient, there should be no charges for any treatments, dressings etc. I would certainly be questioning the Hospital. Patients being treated privately under insurance can and are charged. There is NO NEW THING.

The Charging by GP'S for Blood Tests is complicated, Technically there should be no charges if the Bloods are required for ongoing Treatment & patient has a Full Medical Card. If a patient requests bloods then a GP can charge. This particular topic discussed in the forum link below.

She should make contact with the local public health nurse, who may be able to visit and look after dressings.

Patients with Medical Cards are not Automatically referred to local Health Centres if the are Out Patients & receiving ongoing Treatment.

I suspect you are the only one seeing a hospital charge, the rest of us think the op is referring to the dressing being changed, and charged in the GP clinic.

You are correct, I apologise, I misread as in the Dressing was done in the Hospital & then patient referred to GP.
