Much like their other pro-Russian posts, that little question was designed to seed doubt in supporting Ukraine. That's the entire objective of posts like that, and I fully expect them to return to try it again in a couple of days.

If the Kremlin aren't paying them for this, they are missing a trick I feel.

Also putin's forces killing and injuring innocent civilians in their poorly targeted long range attacks with missiles and suicide drones and the continued chewing up of his military by Ukraine's armed forces is becoming routine so not being as amplified in the media from what I can see. I don't think this is nothing as putin will see his options in Ukraine become more and more limited with each day he allows his army get destroyed.

I have never been to Russia but that description of the police being everywhere and ever present reminded me of visiting Rwanda. I never saw any trouble there but there were police, security and army absolutely everywhere and all armed to the teeth.

Russia has no chance against NATO but it now has a chance against Ukraine. Thanks to a deliberate policy of starving Ukraine of weaponry.

Many of the armies of western Europe are so run down and depleted that they are only fit to fight short wars.

China will have taken alot of reassurance that in any standoff with America over Taiwan that Western Europe will still be talking about a tiny million artillery shells for Ukraine being a few more years away.

2 weeks artillery shells in an offensice and the Eu are flumoxxed.

Ukraine are being asked to attack deeply fortified positions with no sir superiority. A shortage of artillery and only a fraction of the missiles and rockets needed.

A Russian win is now holding what they have.

Much of Western Europe's leadership will accept that but it will be a long term mistake and embolden every bad actor out there.

If you follow Ukrainian news, there are things that happening and are being reported. Ukraine is on the defensive right now, the reported plan is to collect as much supplies as possible in the preparation for the new offensive in 2024.

Russian shot down its own plane two days ago: https://kyivindependent.com/air-force-russian-air-defense-downs-its-own-su-25-jet/ , but that's hardly very surprising anymore.

Drones flying back and forth https://www.breakingnews.ie/world/russia-and-ukraine-launch-drone-attacks-targeting-air-base-and-black-sea-coast-1565699.html . The article does not say this, but at least one Russian strike aircraft parked at an airfield was photographed with holes in its wings after the drone attack in the last few days. Hardly world news either.

Lots of analytics (talk shops) about the USA and the EU's funding for Ukraine being delayed.

Russian propaganda itself gets more pessimistic. Putin is putting a brave face and vowing to fight until all his goals are met (so much for the peace talk lies) and this means no end in sight for the war, which kind of damped a mood in Russia a bit. Even the dumbest vatnik now begins to suspect that those at the front are going to stay there until they die.

Political leaders can also use Hungary as an excuse, for not equipping Ukraine properly, there are no Hungarian leaders or Ministers of Defense outside of Budapest.

No one is stopping the transfer of weapons from individual countries but the leadership of those countries.

Fu78 Hungary but let's not pretend that this one blocking move is enough to curtail aid. It curtails one path of aid, that's all.

The defence spending of Western Europe remains at levels barely fit for purpose after years of cuts.

    Hungary are an excuse.

Not a lot happening winter has hit and pretty much everyone has dug until spring brings better weather Russia are still inching forward in adviika, other than that it's the usual situation, Russia flinging everything they can at the Ukrainianas and the Ukrainians are stuck without the big funds from the US , which is starting to have some effect already in certain areas....

Nothing will change much until February/March

Should never have gone back to Russia. Hopefully he is still alive. I wonder is he being held incommunicado until they (regime) have safely held the "election", and Putin's "win" is confirmed? Am sure they will badly want that "show" to go off smoothly with no disruptions.

Even though what Russians see and hear is tightly controlled, in this day and age, it's impossible to seal off the country 100% from what's happening. Som for sure Russians know what's happening to a greater or lesser degree. And the daily living is telling them in no uncertain terms that something very bad is happening. Falling value of the Ruble, food shortages, and with President Putin having to go on State TV and apologize for the shortage of eggs. Not a normal society at all.Even before Putin's invasion in Feb 2022, Russia has one of the largest Nr of expatriates' living outside Russia at 3 million. I'm not saying that all of these Russians were living abroad because of Putin's misdeeds, but you can be sure that a good % were. Now you can add a further 2.5- 3 million who have left since the war started. Russians leaving (or trying to) has gotten so bad, that Putin has taken the really extreme step of confiscating passports of everyone of Military age, including serving personnel, even FSB members (one of them from Putin's personal contingent fled, taking valuable information with him) So that will give you an idea about how Russians feel about Putin and his Russia. As for the ones who cannot leave, Putin's iron grip ensures that if you have anti-Putin feelings, you keep them to yourself, or discuss only with family or lifelong trusted friends, or else! It's a society where teachers in children's schools encourage the kids to talk about what their parents are saying at home, and this has led to the parents being arrested after saying something bad about the war, or the economy. Having said that, there's no doubt that there is a hard core of Putin supporters as well (but far from the Putin inspired poll figures up in the 80-90's %.) Bottom line is that there's an anti-war sentiment that is growing, which is why Putin has had to resort to these desperate measures. Its growing mainly in the Republics where up to now, Putin has drawn most of his conscripts from to date, and who have the largest Nr of dead to show for it, but now he is having to take conscripts from St. Petersburg, and Moscow. And in St. Petersburg, posters have appeared with an innocuous heading but with QR codes which when translated say " A Russia without Putin". This is a serious grassroots escalation in the anti-Putin propaganda. I would not like to be any person caught sticking these up.

The Ukrainian military want's to mobilize 450,000-500,000 men but zelensky seems to be against the idea along with calling up women to serve despite many actually volunteering to do so ,

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,634 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

I'm sure he just means frontline soldiers. Tbf Ukraine need's to preserve woman otherwise the future population collapses. It's a good sign if they can afford this mobilisation without women.

Averaging over 1000 killed a day for the last 2 weeks.

I know it's only estimates but it's an upward trend.

Likely casualties but the death rate would be extremely high considering most soldiers these days get shot if they try retreat so it's die one way or another. The lads getting treatment are probably those injured behind the frontlines.

I've seen plenty of women serving in the military, for any one front line soldier, like the proverbial iceberg, where only 1/10th showing above the surface, with the remaining 9/10ths hidden. And so, it is with the military too. There's much more in support than on the front lines at any given time. The majority of jobs that women would be called on to do, would not involve them in anything dangerous or life threatening any more that what every Ukrainian is facing from Russian bombing.

Hi Gatling. seems that the IDF have discovered the tunnels that the Toyotas can drive through !!!! LOL.

IDF claims it has discovered ‘biggest Hamas tunnel’ in Gaza (msn.com)

It's my second time posting the link just in case you missed the first one, OK? 😂

When Ukraine began conscription one of the loopholes was that students were not eligible. So immediately many men enrolled in adult education courses. Male students 30+ increased hugely compared to before the war. Male students 20-29 increased several-fold also.

So they have plenty of men, but they will have to change their conscription policies.

It would be interesting to see if these lads are doing real courses or if it's a fake industry like the Chinese were doing here and in various other countries

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,395 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

It is possibly a deliberate mechanism so that the wealthy and already educated can avoid it.

What are the numbers anyway? Those seem very low. There a probably more male students 18-20 in Ireland than in Ukraine by those figures. Are those numbers you pasted from a particular city or region?

They are newly enrolled (first-year) male students by year. It is not the total number of men in education, although you can probably guesstimate that assuming the average course length is 4 years.

The main takeaway is that in 2021 only 1,700 men aged 30-39 enrolled in university courses, in 2022 it was 30,000. In 2023 it was 43,000. So that's 70,000+ spoofers they could conscript immediately if they change the laws. Similar for 20-29, a big jump in men suddenly interested in education.

I would imagine they will start with the older group 30+ first

The table comes from here and they reference using this site for their data

So, it seems like suggestions that the Gaza tunnels were as extensive as the London Underground are not too far off the mark.... But logistically speaking, they had to be like they are finding now. 3'000 missiles launched on the 7th plus another 7'000 launched in the following days means a very sophisticated set up, and without the IDF knowing about it? Even with Satellite imagery? Had to be underground. But anyway........apart from that....🤣

Just wondering what people think about what happened in Colarado to Trump. Will Ukraine be happy as this might mean Trump might not be able to run for president in 2024 or will this have more recent implications as now it might mean republicans might not pass any bill coming down the line that might give extra aid to Ukraine as it is coming from Biden. They might feel they need to not back any democrat's bills at the moment. Any thoughts?

Well, nothing's decided yet about Colorado; the SCOTUS will likely weigh in, and I'd expect quickly.

If TFG's booted from the ballot nationwide (imo extremely unlikely especially with this SCOTUS), the GQP lackeys in the house will have a huge problem; how do they get reelected if not on TFG's coattails? A few of them will want to pass whatever legislation they can to benefit their constituents.

A few of the stupider zealots like MTG, Gosar and even Gaetz might continue to be purists and oppose everything, but the rest of the GQP caucus will duck and cover and probably get together with the Democrats to pass a few things.
