The most you ever paid in a private sale

How much you’re paying is irrelevant really. The more important question is how much are you saving compared to buying from a dealer? If you’re saving lets say €5,000 as well getting a warranty with the car then I’d consider it a very good deal if everything else checks out.

For what its worth I’ve bought cars for €20k+ from auction which is way riskier than buying from a private seller and getting an Audi warranty.

How does it compare price wise to something in a dealers with similar spec and mileage?

No issue spending that amount privately once you've checked the vehicle out thoroughly and transfer funds in bank or bank draft etc

What's the service history like? Are they the kind of owner that maintains well regardless of cost? Something I often look at for an indication of an owners attitude to their car is the tyres. If they have a valuable car but put the cheapest Chinese tyres on they could find, then what's the likelihood of the rest of the car being maintained with a similar mindset.

A couple of years ago I looked at a nice 2017 Audi coupe in an Audi main dealer. They had put 4 new tyres on it, the cheapest black rubber they could find. Front and back were different makes too. Car was up for nearly €30k too. I walked away.

I recently bought a BMW from Japan instead, full set of Pirelli P7 on it. The car itself before any fees etc was around €3500

Why is he selling it on so soon?

He's asking far too much if its a grand more than a similar year car from a dealer, regardless of spec, mileage etc.

That’s my point too- saving needs to be substantial to make it worth the possible risk

My biggest question would be why he’s selling after only eight months.

I’d be asking the question and make a judgement on the answer given.

Good mechanical check by someone who knows what they’re doing as well.

Selling cars privately is tough, not many will have the cash to buy this up front. I'd have a look at the back catalogue on Merlin car auctions - i think you've to pay €10 for it but it'll give you a good idea of what the true value is.

I wouldn’t have an issue with keeping the car 8 months, I change cars a few times every year. Variety etc.

The mileage seems excessively low for a 5 year old car. Have you run a check on the previous UK registration number?

Why aren't any of his previous ads accessible? Is that standard on DoneDeal?

Donedeal account has been active since 2013, and only 18 adds posted since then. So thats around 1.2 adds per year.

No wonder its hard to sell privately if people view something so insignificant as a red flag.

I think the car looks ok it’s the price that’s the sticking point.

Would agree with this, hes selling it privately as the trade in offer was thousands less.

I traded in a car a few weeks ago with some very annoying intermittent electrical faults, similar were for sale for 23k but I was offered 16250 trade in off something else and took it as I wanted rid, if someone like you came along and bought it privately off me without issues known you'd be pulling your hair out with a lemon, thread carefully.
