Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Terrible change IMHO.

Cooper was doing ok there, had had problems recently but considering where they were less than 2 years ago..... short memories. Also, they took time to get going last season but once the coaching and organization started to work they survived very comfortably.

Nuno did ok with Wolves but they were a front for the Mendes agency, he had some serious talent made available to him, and he was ran out of Spurs after a few months. Think Forest are closer to Relegation now than they were earlier today.

Shouldn't have sacked Cooper, but as far as replacement's go, Santo is grand. That's his level, and he'll do fine there. Won't be pretty, but it'll be effective.

Half the issue at Forest imo is the crazy turnover of players since they got promoted. First season it was something like 20 odd signings and they didn't exactly slow down last summer either.

In fairness, they had to build a squad from a very low base, really overachieved by sneaking into the playoffs

You can expect 6 or 7 Portugese arrivals in January now.

I’m a tad confused at this stage. I would sincerely hope the ref doesn’t restart the match if, having issued a red or yellow card or blown for a foul, a player is still getting treatment. So are we only talking about this rule applying to players randomly dropping like flies off the ball? It does happen but it is nowhere near as prevalent as the players drawing a foul and then acting like they were hit by a sniper.

The simple solution is a visible clock for added time. If this was started during every delay to the game, players would be able to see they weren’t running down the clock.

They would still do it to break the rhythm particularly if their side was under pressure but it would eliminate some of the total shithousery like fellas getting fouled off the pitch and rolling back on to get treatment or a player about to be substituted going to the centre circle, lying down, waving for treatment and then limping off afterwards but able to high five the entire bench and backroom team through the awful pain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,169 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

    1) treatment has no time limit so play wont restart until the injured player has been safely removed/assessed.

    2) Generally it would affect the phantom injuries where a player just buckles for literally no reason.

    3) It would also work with what you described, in that if the player drawing the foul actually FAILS to get the foul BUT remains commited to his act and stays stricken on the ground anyway.

After the 15 seconds the ref would then stop play so he can get his obviously seriously required treatment ASAP. (As oppose to the onus being on the defending team who cleanly won possession having to stop play and kick the ball out so that the treatment can arrive).

Then it becomes up to his team whether they substitute him (if he is too badly injured to continue) OR let him sit for 2 minutes before he can return to the match (if he is found fit to return).

The premier league are already doing this any player who gets treatment has to wait 30 seconds before coming back on, it is just extending that time

Coooer gone. Forest’s next few games are tough as well.

I like that idea of the stoppages clock, so we can see the accrued time being wasted.

I guess then there is the debate about when it gets applied, such as is it applied for every single stoppage like corners, throw ins, free kicks etc

This was one of proposed ideas of the European Super League, with a stop clock and reduced halves (iirc it was counting back from 30 mins) but got canned because of who brought the idea to the fore. The ball would actually be in play for longer and would reduce time wasting but hey-ho.

I wonder if Nuno’s contract with Forrest will have similar ‘get out’ language as his Spurs one did…

If so, it could be said that Santo’s Clause is Coming to Town.

I’m ashamed to say it, but I did chuckle at that.

if the PL buy arteta's reasoning (a cultural and language difference) i hope they apply that now consistently.

i think the FA/PL just had no appetite after they fucked up so took this easy way out.

Villa should have had a penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,702 ✭✭✭Glebee

How is that not a blatant push in the back

I love to see Villa on top over the Christmas. Nicely worked goal.

    Never mind -goal ruled out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,500 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

If that’s a foul on the keeper it’s a foul on the striker as well. Jersey nearly pulled up over his head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Bit harsh ruling that out for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,536 ✭✭✭Dave0301

    Goalkeepers being overprotected again.

Can pull the jersey of an attacking player though.

They haven’t even mentioned it on comms! And I don’t really think you can say it was clearly a foul on the keeper in any case. Milked whatever contact there was.

Villa getting a raw deal with VAR tonight.

They have lacked a cutting edge though.

Var should be giving that as a penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,500 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

Oh my god that’s farcical. Pointing at his shoulder 😂😂😂

Seemed a very soft free to pull back play, with a Sheffield United player clean through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

very surprised that was not a red card.

Smash and grab from Sheff United! 0-1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭Xander10

Sheffield utd deserve that based on last half an hour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,036 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Great goal - it's been coming the last wee while, all the danger coming from SheffU. Archer's looked dangerous.

Think not giving a red was the right call too - the bit of a swing of an arm didn't look like it was intentionally going for yer mans head, looked like an incidental contact while just pulling his arm free.

Huge equaliser, great run and header. One of those 'momentum' ones where he knows he's smashing it in while he's still on the run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,561 ✭✭✭✭CSF

    Shambolic officiating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,388 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

If you read this tweet from Romano what would you think Klopp is talking about?

For those who haven't seen the actual interview he was speaking about how unfair this weeks schedule has been to West Ham and how Moyes had no choice but to rotate players midweek so he'd have a somewhat fresh team this weekend and that the media should have considered that before sticking the boot into him for rotating.

Just shows how taking quotes out of context is used to generate a narrative and drive clicks.

These 12:30 kick offs are such poor entertainment. Premier league should have binned them but TNT will be showing them until 2029. Not a great investment for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,716 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Is Paul Scholes watching some other game ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,117 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Bruno and Evans both immediately booked for minor dissent. I've no issue with the rule as there is too much of it in the game, will be interesting to see if its imposed across all games. Arse vs Pool later will likely be chock full of it.

Lovely goal by West Ham, the pass from Paqueta over the top. A bit of good fortune getting the rebound off Onana.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,716 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

    Dreadful from ManU. As usual.

    2-0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

2-0 West Ham. Well finished, poor mistake by Mainoo.

The continued faith Utd fans have in ETH is mad stuff altogether, like Stockholm Syndrome or something. A lucky draw in Anfield doesn’t cover up for how shambolic they have been at times this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

    Kudos to Mainoo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

This will be West Ham's first back to back victories against Man United since 2007. Commentator was saying Man United haven't had a single shot in the second half after 80 minutes. Up steps Rashford to blaze a shot from distance miles over the bar.

This is also now Man United's longest goalless streak since 1989.

Kudus has settled well into the PL.

Pacqueta is great and has been linked to Man City and personally I think Bowen could play for any club in the league, if not most clubs in Europe. If either of them leave next summer, Kudus will be a brilliant player to have in the squad with the added experience behind him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

There's a lot of bookings for dissent lately.

We aren't privy to what's being said on the pitch, as the refs are not mic'd up, but is it possible that the players are constantly in the ears of the ref and are giving dissent and that the bookings are for overstepping the mark? As in a 'I've taken enough crap, here's a yellow, now stop' kinda thing.

With Bruno as captain, it's not too farfetched. He's a pure moaner and could be rubbing off on others.

If refs kept this up across games for a couple of match weekends that would virtually stamp it out. Managers would immediately start sending teams out under instructions not to give any lip whatsoever to the officials

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

13th defeat of the season in all competitions and we are only at Christmas.

Nothing positive to take out of that game for United, brutal stuff.
