Intensive listening

    Hi

    Has anyone ever tried intensive listening? It's a language learning tenique recommended by Steve Kaufman who claims to be able to speak 20 languages.

    He recommends choosing a short audio clip, between 3-5 minutes long and listening to it repeatedly for over a week. He believes this is the best way to learn a language. He also suggests reading the audios transcript at the same time. I've tried it for the last two weeks but i can't say I have noticed any improvements.

    What do you think?

    Interesting you mention AFN Nuremberg. A recent podcast on RnaG suggests the Nazis had Brownshirt members who could speak Irish fluently and ran a radio propaganda broadcast during the 30s in Irish!

    Anyway, back to the topic. A 2 minute audio clip can have over 200 words. A recent BBC article suggests you only need to know 3000 words in order to hold a conversation in a language. If this is true, than intensive listening might be the key.
