Are you the kind of person that doesn't like James Bond, because it's unbelievable and not real?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭monkeybutter

Bond has great moments, some bad one, the writing in the books are a light year ahead of Reacher of course

but did you like the later Pierce Brosnan bond is it? surfing a wave from the front of a glacier?

Why do you think them waited and reset with Casino Royale, which was a good bond

none of its real, there's a line of stupidity and once you cross that its crapola time

I have read all the books, and love this.

Its entertaining, idiotic but entertaining. Not everything needs to be a work of art.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭monkeybutter

Firstly why would you do that to yourself

Not everything needs to be work of art but nothing needs to be idiotic

There's a lot of ground in the middle there

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,515 ✭✭✭Luxembourgo

Because I enjoy them. I have a busy life and they are the perfect 20 minutes before bed read.

Its all opinions, am sure I couldn't be arsed with many of the shows or sports you enjoy, luckily we no longer are stuck only watching 2 channels 😂

Ok putting mod hat on: move the conversation away from this distraction. People are entitled to enjoy, or hate, whatever they choose but this segue has been played out. If you don't enjoy the show/books' tone then cool, the point has been made.

Anyone noticed the rental car that Nickley and Dawson had in this episode has a Hyundai badge on the front and Ford badges on the back and steering wheel lol. Someone fu-cked up there big time lol.

"Child" places his books alphabetically on bookshop and library shelves between crime fiction greats Raymond Chandler and Agatha Christie.[13] Grant has said that he chose the name Reacher for the central character in his novels because he himself is tall and when they were grocery shopping his wife Jane remarked: "'Hey, if this writing thing doesn't pan out, you could always be a reacher in a supermarket.' ... 'I thought, Reacher – good name.'"[7]

    There you go.

This is absolute rubbish. Loved the first season but there is zero chemistry here between any of the characters. I've never seen a more wooden bunch of actors.

I'm actually really enjoying S2, a lot more than S1 actually. It's silly but extremely watchable. I didn't realise it was being released weekly and was disappointed that I had to stop the binge and go watch something else.

There seems to be two camps.

I'm with Rob316 though. Season two just not doing it for me. Season one had small town bullies getting owned, humanity, a dog & lots of shtick humour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,495 ✭✭✭Homelander

I just found Season 1 stretched the limits of credibility way too much.

Like I think we can all agree the events of Reacher S1 and S2 are pretty out there in terms of realism.

Reacher S1 though we had these crazy scenes like Jack blocking 10 crowbar blows with his forearms with no ill effect.

S2 is silly, but there's nothing quite as ridiculous like that so far and they've definitely dialed back on Reacher being almost superhuman.

Can I ask, for those who don't like it, did you read the books? I read all the early Reacher books and they were very good. The standard definitely nose dived though. The movies are horse **** as a fan of the books and the TV series is spot on. Reacher is a very distinctive character and Tom Cruise is so far from that character it's not even funny. Ritchson plays him perfectly. A big and socially awkward specialist who kicks ass and takes no **** from anyone. He's wooden because Reacher is wooden. It's deliberate.

Child's first few collaborations with his brother weren't great imo. I feel like the latest one was a step in the right direction.

    OK.

This really is entertaining chewing gum TV. I've forgotten so much detail.

a lot of poor aim and wasted ammo in that ep.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 510 ✭✭✭gossamerfabric

seemed liked actor and actress were going through the motions in that scene because it was demanded of them and they looked like they felt demeaned.

    yeah it’s awful stuff alright

very poor security in that hospital, everyone in there must be deaf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭NinjaTruncs

I hate how they have to dumb everything down and spell it all out, like in the motel room when the kid takes the Clark bar, the look he gave should have been enough, but he has to say to everyone in the room about it being the only Clark bar. It's a small annoyance and there are probably much bigger a ones for other people, but there is just no need for it.

It is very much a turn off your brain show. And the guy who's playing Reacher, whose name I keep forgetting, is a terrible actor. But I'll still watch every season. There's a place for stupid entertainment in my life.

    It’s fantastic tv

Im waiting for my son to catch up with the first season so we can watch the 2nd together, its funny though that this is more popular than Amazon's flagship Rings of Power ....oof!

It's pretty standard execution for a US show. They don't trust the audience to understand the SHOW, so they feel they have to give the TELL as well.

It's all a bit silly, but it's enjoyable silly, so I'm happy to go along with it. I think Ritchson's doing a grand job, it may not be the most demanding job, but Reacher is definitely a consistent character. There's something good about knowing what you're going to get, and then getting it.

what was that nit about the finding the safe house at the start, it went on a bit...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,548 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Enjoyable finale. Maybe a bit top heavy in terms of action (the last 20 minutes were for closure) but it was great.

    I loved how ...

... inconsequential the English guy was in the end. 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,363 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Reacher did well to

sell the bonds and make all those arrangements in what I assume was maybe a day or less.

And he says he didn't need anything, just getting the pass, but where does he have all the leftover money. I assume there's some.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,870 ✭✭✭Pentecost

It was a satisfying ending, albeit a bit neat but then the books always go that way. It's just a fun series, not to be taken too seriously. I'll happily watch more in future and it seems to be very popular.

I preferred season one as it was ever so slightly more nuanced ! Brilliant tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 510 ✭✭✭gossamerfabric

Cruise's Reacher was more cerebral than this one and this season wasn't as good as series 1.

Just finished the second season there- very enjoyable.

Absolutely ridiculous watching. Classic Reacher. Looking forward to S3.

The entire helicopter scene was outrageous. Classic Reacher! Thoroughly enjoyable mindless entertainment.

    Was OK.

But it should have been the final season, of a few. Where we got to know the other characters individually through other seasons and this was the one that brought them all together and gave them a sort of happy send off. Don't feel it worked as a second season, with more to come.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,915 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

i hope the third season brings it back to the "lonely wanderer comes a cross a town done wrong" type story like the original season. This season had too many characters and suffered for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,496 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Enjoyable enough, but not on a par with the first season at all.

It must have been intentional but I found the character of Reacher to be played very differently in this one. Season one he had his odd ways but he still had some humour and wit, and was able to interact with human beings. This series it was nothing but robotic blank stares every time somebody spoke to him.

The problem being of course that he is in a team with all his closest friends, and we are told that they all idolise him and would do anything for him. But at no point do we get to see why. He barely answers them if they ask a question, just stares blankly if they make a comment, he gives them nothing. Its a complete failure of "show don't tell".

I know his friends were killed and he is supposed to be angry, but the season 1 Reacher had personality, this one is just a gimmick.

Jumped the shark for me. Way over the top but I will be back for Season 3. sucker for mindless, mindless fun.

I'm a massive fans of the books, hated the movies simply because Tom Cruise is way too small, really enjoyed season 1 but season 2, meh, too much "team work" and the fact that they are just leaving bodies everywhere with no backlash, I mean killing an unarmed senior police office who was pinned to the wall and not having to go down to the station at least, come on. That and being able to transfer barer bonds to cash so quickly, jumped the shark but I'll watch season 3, this season had too much filler for me

Wasn't as good as the first season but it's the type of show that could have another really good season up it's sleeve.

As others have mentioned, too many characters were present to allow for a streamlined narrative and the protagonist group never felt like they were in any grave danger until the very end of the story but even then it's not a show that sacrifices characters of that type so there was little sense of danger.

Difficult second album vibes but there were still some fun set pieces.

    Glazers Out!

I enjoyed both seasons. Both were slightly different. Season One was more fun season two when it got going certainly had more action but was more stupid too. Hopefully season 3 will get back to being more fun again.

    Peace and long life.

I stopped after a few episodes of season 2 and caught back up over the last 2 days. All I'll say is its astonishing how the level can drop from season 1 to 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

Yeah, could have done with another season or two, before a wholesale introduction of the full Special Investigations Unit team.

A lot of different ways if could have happened too. The flashbacks to the SIU could have culminated in the news that two of them had died as a part of a S3 teaser or something. It was too many faces who were already familiar with each other far too quickly.

Otherwise, plenty of silly entertainment, one-liners and general badassery. It's not great. It's pretty formulaic, but it executes that formula well so I'll stick around.

Series 1 was great, Series 2 definitely dropped the ball but I still enjoyed it for what it is. Looking forward to more.
