Just wondering how many counting rounds for WHI people played this year and how it impacted on your HC

If you play more does it decrease or increase more?

    I played 34 11 away..23 home..and went from 14.8 to 16.2.

    High of 18.1

Not great but could be worse

    Slow year for me.

    26

    9.8 and finished 7.6 with a low of 6.8

A lot fewer than I actually thought. A combination of work, family, and poor weather made it tough to get out at times.

12 counting rounds. Probably the same again in non-counting.

Started the year at 28.5 and finished at 18.5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭paulos53

47 rounds. 29 at home, 18 away. Started the year at 8.2, finished at 10.1

    Low of 7.7 & high of 10.9.

22 counting, going by arccos had 61 rounds total (a lot more then I thought). Started year 20.1, finished 19.0 with low of 18.6.

    23 qualifying

    11 home / 12 away.

Very frustrating, as was mentioned in another thread I felt like my ball picked up mud all year round outside of the 2 home rounds during June where I happened to play well.

Start 5.5 (5.5 this was also the low point)

End 6.7 (6.9 was highest throughout the year)

    26 qualifying

    3 away / 23 home

played alot of matchplay golf this year again, had a run to final of the club matchplay and we had a good run in the jimmy bruen. Certainly the year where I had the best rounds of my life but also some of the worst. The variance in my record is kinda crazy considering I am a very steady enough golfer.

    Started: 8.0

    Finished: 5.9

    Highest: 9.2, Lowest: 5.4

Only played 16 counting rounds this year! Will be looking to double that next year. Getting married this summer got in the way of golfing, that and the atrocious weather. I'd say 6-7 of those counting rounds had lift, clean and place in play on the fairways. 11 rounds at home and 5 away.

High HC of 10.4 at the start of year.

Low HC of 9.2 at the end.

    Can't complain with a 1.2 reduction.

Really hoping next year isn't as wet as 2023!

The one away round I had is counting. But this year in general, I just felt very consistent with my golf. only 4 of my 19 rounds have a Stroke Differential above 10, so it just feels like a really solid year all round. Home Course familiarity and having preferred lies on the fairways for most of the summer definitely helped

After loosing my Dad last Christmas, decided I would take some time out of work and play as much as I could. Looked at my rounds this morning and I have 75 counting rounds in 2023, so I guess I full filled my own brief 😂.

Started the year at 10.3 (probably a bit too high for me) at 7.4 at the moment.

Doubt I’ll play half as many rounds in 2024.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,160 ✭✭✭benny79

Amazing achievement @Golfgraffix 👏 What dreams are made off! Mine anyway 😂 I wish I had took up Golf as a kid and spent my summers on the courses! Unfortunately for me I only found the love for the game when I moved to the country! suppose it was more access able than..

A really bad year for me in General never mine Golf but Im still standing! Plus feel a really good year ahead.

Only 19 qualifying rounds for me

    Started at 17.3

    Finished at 17.3 😂

    High of 18.3

Low of 17.3 so happy with that

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭macslash

Only 21 counting rounds this year. A lot of other things got in the way...football/weather/injury etc, so hope to get 30+ in this year.

    Started - 18.4

    Finished - 15.2

    Highest index - 19.1

    Lowest - 15.2

Was down to 15.3 by mid June and then 15.2 and stayed there. Only had 5 counting rounds from August onwards when both my golf form and interest had taken a nosedive.

    Played 8 counting.

    2 home 6 away

Hopefully get to double digits next year. Started the year at 14.8 and finished at 14.2 so slowly trending the right way despite playing very little and no practice.

Only 2 counting rounds I'm afraid, both at home. Handicap remained at 4.4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭coillcam

    Counting Rounds: 19

    Starting WHI: 11.6

    Low WHI: 10.4

    Final WHI: 11.9

I thought that I played more counting rounds. However, I did play plenty more competitive golf. All of winter/spring which weren't counting. Also, a few interclub matches and practice days. If you told me in May/June when I was trending down that I'd finish up higher than January, I would have laughed at the notion. Tbf it was a horrendous run in Summer/Autumn. No doubt I'll drop into the 10ish range next year but trying to break to single figures will be real aim.

Away: 0 (Possibly first time ever)

    Start: 12.0

    High: 14.6

    Low: 12.0

A real year to forget. 2022 was great and was looking forward to getting even lower.

Handicap up by nearly 3 shots and will likely get even worse. Run of great scores all falling off atm.

Game is all over the place. Mostly pure muck, but occasional glimpes of a good golfer. 2024 will have to be better couldn't be much worse than 2023.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,099 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

22 counting rounds, well down from 36 in 2022. 4 away, mainly society.

Started on 12.6, went out to 15.7 by August, mostly due to a few good rounds from 2022 falling off. Tidied things up and played well again, bringing it back to 14.0 at the end.

Squeezed one last round in to bring me to 24, with 8 away.

Out on the Jameson Links, in an absolute gale on the 28th. Played well. A final tiny cut to 6.6

Should have been a PCC of minimum 2, but our group were probably the only ones mad enough to put in counting rounds on the day, so not enough for the calc, so stuck with a pcc of 0, and a good round that would have looked much better if it was a proper calc in place

Probably should as the shite I played last year with the society I'd be off 20.

I was surprised it was so many, but I had forgotten that I'd made sure to get a few rounds in before baby 2 came in May. I only had 4 rounds after that. I put in everything I can, so other than two matchplay rounds and a round in Esker where I couldn't register it due to phone signal, I'm not sure I played any other non-counting rounds. I think the second matchplay round is the only time I didn't play 18 in those rounds. So obviously I did not play well that day!

Quick look at golf Ireland. Is there reports people are running to get the home/away/lowest/highest breakdown?

    2021-32

    2020-22

Not that I'm aware of. All the info people are using is on your dashboard.

Surprising how low the numbers in these posts are considering the cost of membership imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,084 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Well we are talking counting tounds

so not even half you golf really, with the winter season and any matchplay, fourball/somes, teams, practice etc.

I remember old system used to show all your rounds (singles) but had a note against ones which were not qualifying

I think this might be a new feature added looking at the recent change on GI app. I think it would be good to see all your singles on your record, even if the course is not qualifying conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭bobster453

Does Howdidido not show all rounds?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,605 ✭✭✭blue note

I reckon boardsies are playing a lot more than the average club golfers, in particular in our age profile. If you think of the average numbers of a Sunday comp compared to the membership numbers - would you have 20% of the members out in it? You've obviously got another 6 days for people to get out, but there are an awful lot of lads playing multiple times each week. It's all guess work from me, but I'd be amazed if 40% of golfers are getting out once a week. I suspect the average number of rounds a club golfer plays each year is actually quite low and I'd say the median is very low.

From my own point of view, I'd absolutely love to play once a week, but I doubt I'll ever get to that stage. As the kids grow older and maybe the wife and I get jobs that we can both finish at 5 each day I'm hoping to have a couple of evenings free again each week - but I'll have to prioritise exercise. I'm in the worst shape of my life (round) and while golf is great, it won't fix that. And at the weekends we'll have kids activities and it would be nice to do family things while they're young enough to want to do them. I don't see where the time will come from to play golf more than about twice a month for the next decade or so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭bobster453

Priorities and 1st world problems getting in the way of golf..has to be done.

For some reason Mrs bobster doesnt have any issue with me playing as much as I can

But then ours have flown the nest and are big and ugly enough to look after themselves..tho one keeps coming home every year from the land of quokas for an extended stay.

Really i think Mrs bobster just likes the peace and quiet of me being gone for hours so she can go brain dead watching her soaps😂

I'd be in the same boat as you bob.

Mrs. Break quite happy to see the back of me, but even when the kiddies were at home I always had 5 hrs Saturday or Sunday morning to play my club golf.

You could always squeeze in a few hrs during the week for practice at the range.

Both of us worked full time so it can be done. Need to strap on a pair and review the contract I'm thinking lads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,084 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Same. Generally play every Saturday and keep Sunday for family.

need your own time, especially in this modern age of mental health problems and keeping oneself sane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭bobster453

    True

Even back in the days of chicks in the nest Mrs Bobster knew i needed time to unwind..tho what that had to do with golf i dont know.

She worked while chicks were in school and i played sat..sometimes sundays..then she went with other golf widows for coffee or cinema or some such.

Compromise important.I originally from kildare she from wexford so no family anywhere near us so we had to figure it out.

Then any family do's..if it was mine I had a few bevvies and she looked after the chicks and vice versa.

Though possibly more pressure and call on free time now than then..maybe..maybe not

I’ve a good few practice rounds for interclub and then the matches so you can add a few more to mine.

I also play a bit of casual golf and when I’m out to enjoy myself, last thing I think of is handicap and putting in a card.

I really need to start adding my boards rounds as casual rounds though, they are friendly competitive for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭bobster453

Boards rounds are competitive alright..friendly??..maybe afterwards not during😂😂😂

Reminds me of a keyring i once had that stated.."is my buddy in the bunker or is the b@#&ard on the green"😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,084 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Well you have certainly won enough for them to have been competitive 🏆
