Help with Wifi in detached garage.

Well I just use any old router as a WAP.

In the UK BT routers were two a penny, obviously they cannot be connected to the phone line, but plug the ethernet in stick appropriate sucurity and SSID settings in and you are good to go.

I had a recent upgrade here and they didn't ask for the old router I used with the fibre connection, so I dangled it across to the new one using an ethernet cable. This was to keep my old zero security wifi settings. The new router needed a security setup in order to "automate" my printer connection. For some reason the setup routine needed the WPS button to interface router to printer, whereas the old router was fine with the previous HP device.

The old router was a Technicolor and the replacement it's connected to is an EIR specified F@st.

Anyway, few companies seem to want their old routers returning so give it a try.

I did buy some cheapo Chinese wifi range extenders that do the job, also but as I have a few I do get a few problems with channel clashes.

The only thing that does not work for me as far as comms go is the mains to ethernet pair of plug in's, but as you have the cable to the shed it isn't a problem that affects you. It's something to bear in mind if you use them to signal test though if you ever suspect a cable problem.

I never used one. I have a crimping tool but as I'm in Kerry you might have problems if you want to borrow it. I think I have some connectors left also.

The link seems to suggest it's good quality though. Frankly I'm sick of some of the tat that I end up with from Amazon, but in your position would give them consideration, they have better than the normal feedback by quite a few buyers too.

If you let me know whether you can collect I will sort it out and see what connectors I have.

It would be a loan, it isn't for sale. I like to see stuff used rather than sit idle though
