I haven't seen much of the Masters this year yet, mainly highlights, but I really enjoyed the Murphy/Lisowski match yesterday evening. Murphy's in fine form and looking like he's really enjoying himself. I'm hoping he can get past O'Sullivan. Either way it should be a great semi.

One of the better matches this week alright

I see Ronnie is moaning about the venue again. Not much new, lets be honest, but some of these players keep whining about this place and that. It gets tired year on year, when you see a huge improvement in the coverage, earnings and number of different events held.

Some of the punters will see the serial whingers as just spoilt brats. Especially when ticket prices have gone higher.

Tbf it is cold. You see a lot of the players warming hands up on mugs of tea etc. Allen was doing it vs Higgins.

It is hard not to want Ali Carter do well with the Cancer, and the pilot stuff etc. I remember that 'shoulder' on Ronnie. How many people wanted/would like to shoulder Ronnie over the years? But he did it!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

But at the same time I saw some of the crowd in T-Shirts. Surprised the snooker lads don't buy electronic hand warmers you can charge them up. Cold hands wouldn't be great for feel for shots.

Anyway, yet another 40 plus year old player at the top end of the rankings.

Anyone who is watching back Trump v Carter Frame 6 is the one to watch, plenty of excitement in it.

Trump v Carter shaping up to be a great match. Carter very smart getting out of that brown fluke snooker on the green.

I'm delighted Trump did not win another final frame decider.

A great break there by Carter so a well deserved win.

That was very risky and very good 1st cut back black by Allen in this 147 attempt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Another great cut back to save the maximum

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

5 or 6 great pressure shots in that. Enjoyable maximum

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Great maximum far from straight forward, lots of iffy shots. I was worried he was going to foul cueing over that red late on (3 reds left).

I arrived in the door, turned on the snooker, and there's a 147 just developing - perfect timing!

Great break by Allen, he certainly went the long, awkward way about it, but never lost his nerve.

    Fair dues, delighted for him!

Not to many tournaments that have produced 2 147s,I recall it happened once,is he in line for the 147,000 bonus as well?

He is yeah, so Allen and Ding will have their own competition going on at the World championship..

Looks like going to a decider.... Selby seems to be pulling himself back from the brink

    I typed too soon!!

    C'mon Mark!! (A)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Yeah I have to laugh at that when the crowd shout 'C'mon Mark'. It could be for any of them for getting the chance or missing a bad shot.

I heard one voice from the crowd say 'Selby' but it did not take.

I was hoping it would go to a final frame decider as I suspeced it would be fairly dramatic and it was.

Great brown there in the end by Allen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Allen looks surprisingly fresh after that match. I don't think he will have as much trouble with Carter as he did with Selby.

Went to bed last night at 4-4. Was wrecked and convinced Selby was broken.

from 4-1 to 4-4 I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play as badly. I do wonder if the venue is effecting the players. Flys landing on balls, to cold, noise complaints etc. .

Murphy seems to have the pace of the table laying snookers frame 1 v Ronnie. But Ronnie has thrown in a few careless shots (I don't understand why) still won the frame though.

Lisowski on analysis in studio, interesting to hear his thought processes on the game. Because to be honest, I see Lisowski as a very one demensional player when he is playing in a match himself.

It was funny though, I thought. The most cutting and true Ronnie comment was 'they have no snooker brain' - meaning the other players on the circuit. Compared to him of course. But for Murphy the most cutting Ronnie throwaway comment (when he hears it) was "I knew if I played olwight I'd win".

I think Ronnie rattled Murphy a bit the way Ronnie looked like he was careless. Sort of like that time he did it v Selby in the World Championship.

But the level was that high at the same time that those few errors from Murphy cost him the match. Like the missed blue after the great rest shot, that type of thing. But you can't say that Murphy did not have his chances to make it a much closer game. Murphy missed too many crucial shots, the centuries just papered over them a bit, IMO.

I hope it is Allen in the final from a spectators point of view, because if it is Carter, Ronnie will really get in his head and steamroll him, I think. An Allen v Ronnie final would be closer. I nearly forgot in the BBC studio Ronnie forgot who Carter was playing....had to think for a few seconds.

That was over quick. Thought at 3-2 we'd get another tight one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

None of the presenters have mentioned it. But how many Masters competitions did Ronnie not compete in? Was it three/four? Because that makes the 14 finals even more impressive.

Think he has only missed 2 since 1994, 2020 and his "gap year", 2013.

He has a dangerous, f*-you-all attitude at the minute, must be the favourite; hoping Allen comes through, I think he is mentally resilient and could challenge him. Carter simply can't beat O'Sullivan and will be rout-ed if he makes the final.

For all the talk of a rivalry between O'Sullivan and Murphy, it's only a rivalry in Murphy's head. He can make his little comments and whatever, on the table it's not even remotely close.

I think Allen wins tonight and that probably gives us a better match tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

You are correct on O'Sullivan v Murphy. I had a gawk on cuetracker.

    Played 21 matches - O'Sullivan 16 - Murphy 4 - 1 draw.

The last big win Murphy had v O'Sullivan was 2017 Champion of Champions Final 10-8.

I think Ronnie rattled Murphy a bit the way Ronnie looked like he was careless. Sort of like that time he did it v Selby in the World Championship.

Whatever one thinks of Ronnie's attitude over the last few years - it's totally working for him. He often starts of in what looks like a cavalier fashion as if he's playing in an exhibition but eventually reverts to his best and blows people away like he did with Murphy today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 579 ✭✭✭Cetyl Palmitate

Ronnie wearing runners probably annoyed Murphy at a certain level as well
