Aaron Duggan, former Dicksboro goalkeeper, is now Wexford sub goalkeeper.

Yeah 1 of 4 goalies in the panel at the moment which will be cut down to 3 for the league, living in Oilgate parish where his partner is from for the last 3 or 4 years.

Well done to both Kilkenny teams Saturday. Won well as expected. Cork need to look at there own set up, The Senior B and Intermediate B formats are hurting there chances in both All Ireland finals. One thing that is striking is the sheer size and athleticism of both teams. Looking at the team line ups beforehand I see both John Donnelly and Walter Walsh standing in the back row of the team photos, both top class intercounty players and physically imposing, Walter could be 6ft 5in and looks average height in his club side., same with John Donnelly.

Agree, the likes of Tipp and Cork are screwing themselves over with multiple Seniors and Intermediate levels. Senior B and Inter B are some nonsense. Just call them what they are, Senior, Inter, Junior etc.

Or if teams are that sensitive about the name status of their grade, just change it to Grade 1,2,3 etc.

Something I didn't quite get about the Cork and Tipp championships is if the Senior B is the 2nd tier championship or not? If it is why don't they send the winners of those championships forward to the intermediate and junior in Munster. Wexford's 3rd tier is called Intermediate A championship, they play in the Leinster Junior championship. Junior hurling in Wexford is the 4th tier.

I don't understand the excuses for the Cork club teams last Saturday. Both teams were good enough to win out in Munster. Also, surely the grading structure doesn't affect the senior division, so why have the Cork senior club teams done so poorly in recent years?

Thomastown and Tullogher deserve great credit for their magnificent displays on Saturday, and indeed throughout the entire campaign. No other teams would have done any better against them in the final. The Cork excuses don't stack up.

John Donnelly's club form has been sensational for months, he is such a good hurler, but hasnt yet reached his IC potential. Surely this is his year.

I'd have him a cert to start in forwards with the 3 Shamrocks lads. But it's pick 2 from about 15 after that. Hopefully one or two will have big leagues. A 2nd killer corner forward like Cody, would make us a much more dangeous team. and then maybe WW FF and Billy Ryan on after 50 mins?

With Blanchfield and Carey back, we aren't far off. If Corcoran could man CB, a midfield of Reid and Deegan might finally solve the midfield issues.

Daragh Corcoran is not an intercounty centre back. I like him for a wing spot maybe although he's behind Carey and Blanch in my opinion but there's no way he's a county 6.

I hope lyng goes after the couple of areas we have struggled in. Theres no point playing it safe with lads he has to try lads even if that means a few defeats. In my opinion theres a corner back, center back, midfield and and two fowards so theres a lot of work to do. Theres players on the panel a few years but havent being consistent enough.its very unlikely he will give 4 or 5 lads their debut this year he will probably move lads around. Mikey carey will be a help. Hopefully it will work out for liam blanchfield.

Theres obviously a big difference between club and county but ive being very impressed with loughlins 2 wing backs bombing forward.david Fogarty in defense and conor heary in attack will be well worth a look. Stephen donnelly has had a very impressive season so these few lads in around the panel should freshen things up and put pressure on lads. The club scene is very competitive and we do have a few hurlers in the county.

Best of luck to loughlins this weekend. This is 50-50 but hopefully their defense can tie down cooney and regan. Cooney is a different animal at club level.Thomas have a very good spine aswell and david burke was a huge boost the last day. Olg will have to keep the free count down even on the half foward line.Thomas bought a few frees which cooney punished.luke hogan was a great target man the last day he will need to be on top of his game. Olg will need a one or two fowards to step up and get 3 or 4 points and take the pressure off the half back line. They will try to keep the half back line pinned back but this is more difficult in the wide spaces of croke park. They have also played here in the leinster final and thomas were very poor the last time they came to croke park.

This is a very winnable match for loughlins they have the backs to nuilify the fowards but they need a few fowards to clip in with a few pints and take the goal chances. If they can do this they will fancy their chances if this is level coming down the home stretch.

We ned to be totally unafraid to play a sweeper. Richie Reid is the best candidate for this role.

David Blanchfield is the lad for centre back. Put Deegan and Adrian Mullen back in the forwards. A midfield of Carey and Kevin Blanchfield.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭Grats

O'Loughlins have a big task to get the balance right. Their backs are having to get into scoring positions to compensate for lack of scoring forwards. In doing so they're leaving big gaps in the backs which Thomas's will exploit. Bennettsbridge were very unlucky not to score 3/4 goals against them. The goalkeeper saved O'Loughlins on the day.

Luke Hogan might be back to his best, after a nasty injury in the league, which should help up front. Heary, Bolger and Wall need to play their best this season if O'Loughlins are to be in with a shout - and the backs need to get tighter and cut back on the wandering. Their doggedness and determination compensates somewhat.

Fingers crossed for another Kilkenny win.

Eoin guilfoyle is hurling well for ucd. Im very suprised the thomastown lads are available but happy that zach is called in. Hes hurling needs to be tidyed up but that can improve and we would be better investing time into these players.

John Donnelly is a top class hurler, really good hurling intelligence aswel which you can’t coach, TJ has that too.

Darragh Corcoran is a superb club hurler, but is he missing that yard of pace you need against the Hergartys, Lynchs et al?

    Time will tell.

    Anyone at the match?

  • Registered Users Posts: 415 ✭✭Alonzo Moseley

Watched on Clubber, conditions tough (especially in 2nd half) but a poor display, no rhythm to our play whatsoever. Forwards were awful. Aside from ball Blanchfield won for penalty, barely a ball stuck all day. Touch all over the field was off. We had wind and extra man for almost all of 2nd half (we even had them down to 13 men for 10 mins) but made no headway at all.

Strange decision at end when 2 pts down, Guilfoyle seemed to check with ref and then knocked ball over, but ref blew immediately. But even a draw would have been daylight robbery.

Most of the starters today will struggle to ever make it as serious championship hurlers (and that isn’t solely on todays' evidence)

Absolutely terrible performance. The less said about it the better, unless they ran the guts out of the team this morning. Second best all day.

I don’t like picking out individuals.

Conditions today in Callan poor and the performance in the same category. Wexfords fitness/running/movement and particularly first touch were in the ascendancy all day. Their passing was also much more clinical. Lyng won't be too worried about today as it's only the 3rd week of January and with new faces everywhere we were at sixes and sevens trying to figure out what to do. Even when we went 2 men up Damen reck was getting on an awful lot of ball in their defence. A lot of work to do but it will be done. Expect a different game in 2 weeks time in nowlan Park for the league opener.

The new lads need plenty of games to see where they stand.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭Grats

Absolutely agree. Certainly at the end it looked like extra time wasn't very welcome as Guilfoyle was happy to point the last free rather than drop it in! I think the supporters were happy to head off too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 683 ✭✭✭Marrooned

The extra game next week was vital to try out more players but it didn’t happen.people seem to forget that there is a new league format coming next year based on this years performance. With only two home games beating Wexford the next day could be vital.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

It was straight to penalties and no extra time if it ended up a draw.

Just had a look in after being at match today

see same old rubbish on this site John Donnely had a great year with club its intermediate club hurling so far from county hurling

when Ryan came on today he looked so far in front of the rest of the players again he has showing he not good enough

as for the young lads from tullogher have not showing anything Walter by far best player and unfortunately he gone past it

Buckley cost the Boro the match against shamrocks

fogarty anyone thinks he has anything still to offer knows nothing about county hurling

again we had to look at young Doyle today

hopefully I am wrong Hse has showing nothing to be involved at this leval

young guilfoyle was very poor for village last year when it mattered

There was a time you had to earn place on county panel today you only have to look like a hurler to get a go

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭Comerman

You do know that Donnelly, Fogerty, Wally and Buckley weren't playing today and Ryan got a goal?? Thanks for reminding me to use the ignore button 👍

I hope you realise this is an early season mickey mouse competition. Even Longford beat a Dublin.

    Small bit of perspective needed......

It’s not about the importance of the competition it’s the extra game which is crucial at this stage.
