It was Chester Beatty in the Wild Heather Pub north inner city back around 1997 who was shot 3 times and chased the gunman who kept shooting but dropped his gun having been hit with a stool

Chester picked up the gun and continued the chase down the stairs of the pub but collapsed and died at the scene

similar did happen in the Blue Lion when I gunman tried to shoot Derek Hutch snr back in 1998 and a pub goer threw a stool at him, hutch wasn’t injured and the gunman only discharged one round into the ceiling but managed to leave the scene on a motorbike and obtained his firearm

Why did the 2-man hit team (fox murder) in Belfast enter the social club instead of waiting outside?

Cause they obviously knew what they were doing. And where they were going defo tipped off about it

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,296 ✭✭✭tomhammer..

Ya suppos it's obvious they know what they're doing and has a spotter inside

Other similar hits I think they have someone on the door but not here

Also seemed like maybe they emptied their weapons which would be risky if they actually did that

Chester was big into selling E’s only problem was he wasn’t fond of paying his suppliers which contributed to his death.

Theres a mad story about the fella who was to go on trial for his murder, the night before the trial was to take place he himself was shot dead in the city centre

I think his name was comerford, the lad that shot him claimed at his trial that comerford asked him to give him a flesh wound with a shotgun blast to delay the trial but he hit an artery and he died in a pissy laneway

  • Registered Users Posts: 178 ✭✭Updaparish

He would be juggling the bag from hand to hand as you came up the stairs lol I think one of the girls was his daughter or maybe he was joking saying that.. Great club still have the Ritchie Hawtin live at the system tape, now that was some night

Chester beatty ran a 24hr snooker hall at the back of o connell street. We used to go there after the clubs. Some wild nights. Garda hammering fcuk out of the door trying to get in and everyone inside laughing at them.

He was riding a 16 year old young one aswell. Not that anyone was going to pull him up on it.

Any key remember the big brawl in Turf Lodge, 2010, some criminal scumbag with INLA connections, fella called Michael Smith got his arm severed by a samurai sword, the police in hospital asked him who did it, he said don't you worry about it

The men he blamed were Kieran McManus , and Stephen Carson

"A young man shot dead outside a west Belfast pizza outlet had voiced concerns after his life was threatened in the lead up to his murder, an inquest has heard.

Kieran McManus (26), from west Belfast, was shot outside a Domino's pizza takeaway at the DC Enterprise Centre, Kennedy Way, on March 30, 2013.

Yesterday, at the opening day of the inquest into the father-of-one's death, Coroner Patrick McGurgan heard that Mr McManus was shot twice in the back as he stood by his car.

He had been targeted while he was working a shift delivering pizza for Domino's and had just placed a pizza box into his car when he was hit, the inquest at Belfast's Laganside Courthouse heard.

His murder has been linked to a long-running feud which started in 2010, and culminated in the murder of south Belfast man Stephen Carson three years ago.

That killing had been connected to a samurai sword attack on west Belfast man Michael Smith, formerly of an address in Monagh Drive, who was convicted of Mr Carson's murder in 2018.

Mr McManus was allegedly involved in the sword attack on Smith, who has never been charged with any offences connected to the McManus killing.

Members of Mr McManus' family - which is being represented by solicitor, Belfast Lord Mayor John Finucane - were present at the hearing, during which his mother Sally heard distressing details of her son's death.

The inquest heard from McManus' half-brother, Christopher Donnelly, who was one of three other people present in Mr McManus' silver Volkswagen Passat during the shooting at around 11.15pm that evening.

In a statement read out to the inquest, Mr Donnelly - who was a teenager at the time of the incident - revealed the gunman, whose face was hidden by a balaclava, spoke to his half-brother seconds before shots were fired.

"I heard him say, 'All right, Kieran'. I got the impression Kieran knew the voice," said Mr Donnelly. "I could see the shock in his face. He didn't get to say anything before he was shot in the back."

A second occupant of the car, whose police statement was read out to Mr McGurgan, described seeing the events unfold, with the gunman grabbing the pizza delivery driver's neck from behind, appearing to have him in a "head lock", before hearing gunshots.

The gunman, who was described as brandishing a rifle, fled the scene in a dark-coloured Vauxhall Astra which pulled up close to where Mr McManus collapsed on the ground.

The emergency services were alerted and first responders - along with Mr McManus' friends and work colleagues - frantically tended to the young man, who was praised as a "good worker" by the Domino's branch manager at the time.

Mr McManus was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead at close to midnight.

Mr Donnelly explained that his half-brother had previously told him that he had been approached by an individual who informed him that "two other individuals were going to come and see him".

"I think Kieran thought it was a threat," he continued.

Mr McManus directly asked the individual if he was being threatened, to which this person replied: "They'll see you when they see you," Mr Donnelly said.

The inquest had earlier heard that Mr McManus had been previously targeted while out celebrating Father's Day in a west Belfast restaurant in 2012 by a group of people, according to Mr McManus' cousin, Martin McCabe.

He told the inquest he stepped in to "try and protect" his late cousin, who had been "stabbed in the head with a bottle" amid "chaotic scenes".

Mr McCabe revealed it was not possible to identify the individual responsible because of the number of people involved.

Northern Ireland state pathologist Dr James Lyness revealed that Mr McManus had suffered a "rapid death" due to the nature of the extensive injuries of the two gunshots to the chest and abdomen.

He added that Mr McManus would have "bled briskly" leading to death "within minutes, if even (that)".

Dr Lyness estimated that, based on the extent of the wounds, the gunshots were fired at close range at a "couple of metres away".

The inquest heard the getaway vehicle had been discovered on fire by police a short distance away from the murder scene, having been stolen "several days earlier from Banbridge Leisure Centre".

Stephen Carson got hit first, after leaving Belfast for a while

    "

Two cousins from west Belfast who murdered father-of-two Stephen Carson in a "cold-blooded" execution were told they will spend the next 20 years in jail before they are considered eligible for release.

Michael 'Spud' Smith, 40, and David 'Dee Dee' Smith, 35 - both with addresses in Monagh Drive - shook hands in the dock of Belfast Crown Court after Judge Geoffrey Miller QC handed each of them a minimum 20-year sentence.

The pair were convicted last month by a jury of murdering Mr Carson, who died after he was shot in the head in the downstairs bathroom of his Walmer Street home on the evening of 25th February 2016.

Also present when he was murdered were his fiancee Naomi Smyth and nine-year old son.

During today's sentence it emerged that Mr Carson's son - who is now 11 - has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

During the incident, the then nine-year-old was threatened at gunpoint and was pepper-sprayed.

    'Gangland execution'

Judge Miller described Mr Smith's murder as "an execution with chilling and clinical efficiency", and said: "I am in no doubt it has characteristics akin to a gangland execution."

It was the Crown's case that while Michael Smith was the gunman who fired a single shot from a sawn-off shotgun through a bathroom door which killed Mr Carson, David Smith stayed in the living room where he "subdued" Mr Carson's son and fiancee.

This was a cold-blooded, pre-planned murder, set in the context of a long-running vendetta against the deceased and his family.

    Judge Miller

Judge Miller said they travelled from west Belfast to the Ormeau Road area "with one thought and intention in mind - namely to kill Mr Carson."

The court heard Michael Smith - who was also found guilty of possessing a sawn-off shotgun with intent to commit murder - had 168 previous convictions, compared to David Smith's 28.

Also jailed was today for this role in the aftermath of the murder was a third cousin - Francis Smith - who was handed seven-and-a-half year sentence for four offences. Despite his denials, the 42-year old, from Glenmurray Court in Belfast, was sentenced for charges including assisting offenders, and for allowing the murder weapon and ammunition to be stored in his flat.

During the trial, it was the Crown's case that the motive for Mr Carson's murder dated back to a violent incident in Turf Lodge in 2010, when Michael Smith sustained a significant wound to his arm.

Involved in this altercation were Mr Carson, Kieran McManus and a third man. Mr McManus, 26, was shot dead outside a Domino's Pizza in west Belfast in March 2013, while Mr Carson was shot in his home in the Ormeau area of Belfast in three years later.

The trial also heard that in the days prior to being murdered, Mr Carson had expressed concerns after he saw David Smith in the Ormeau area of Belfast.

    Harrowing evidence

The jury also heard harrowing evidence from Mr Carson's fiancee, son and mother, as well as listening to a 999 call made by Mr Carson to police.

Hiding in the downstairs bathroom, Mr Carson could be heard begging the police to send officers to his home before he was shot through the door.

Prior to passing his sentence, Judge Miller heard Crown barrister Neil Connor QC refer to the killing as "assassination carried out with a clear intention to kill".

Mr Connor said that on the night in question, three men "forced their way" into Mr Carson's home and murdered him in the presence of his partner and son, whilst he was on the phone "summoning help from the police."

Regarding Francis Smith, Mr Connor said he was guilty of assisting his co-accused in the aftermath of the murder by not only providing them with shelter, but also looking after the murder weapon and ammunition.

Defence barrister Tim Moloney QC, representing David Smith, told the court he didn't agree with the Crown’s claims of an assassination. Instead, he branded the killing as "not a particularly professional exercise" which was set in a gangland context.

Mr Moloney said his client "has suffered very badly with drug addiction throughout his adult life" and has "enduring psychological problems" which led to a chaotic lifestyle.

Michael Smith's barrister Frank O'Donoghue QC said this client did not engage with probation ahead of today's sentencing as he is appealing his conviction.

He also disagreed that the murder was an assassination or contract killing, saying that cased on the Crown case "this was anything but professional ... it was wholly amateurish."

Eilis McDermott QC, representing Francis Smith, spoke of her client's former alcohol intake of up to 100 units a week, but said "clearly and happily, that is no longer the case."

The defence barrister also said that as her client was facing a significant period in prison, he has plans to "improve his situation" and intends to undertake an Open University degree.

After Judge Miller passed his sentence, Michael and David shook hands.

They turned to the public gallery, waved and gave the thumbs up, to which someone shouted "upwards and onwards."

Both men will have to serve a minimum of 20 years before they are considered eligible for release by the Paroles Commission, while Francis Smith will serve half his sentence in prison, with the remaining 45 months on licence when he is released" "

I think they'll try to get the new licencing laws in before the next election. It would be great if they got it through for the summer.

I'm sure there's plenty of raves for people in the know in the Wicklow mountains or in warehouses and whatnot.
