Question for anyone with a battery head strap.

I just got a KiwiDesign battery strap, do people leave it connected all the time or only when needed?

The quest is 100% charged, green light, the head strap is connected and still "charging".

Just wondering what people do. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,965 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I usually unplug mine from the headset until I need it as it will always drain

Smyth's have a cheap 5m cable, reviews are mixed on it, but check Argos.co.uk if you want to check em

    €5.99

I got one of these, it's perfect. Fantastic bargain.

I got 4 sheets of bubble wrap in Easons for a couple of euro, so I made some bubble tubes to store the controllers.

Got my Quest+ 6 month subscription activated there and gave Nock: Bow + Arrow Football a go

Very nice movement mechanic I'll say. Reminds me of Sprint Vector's style

In fact I could see that movement mechanic being used in a lot of games... much better than Stride I feel which never feels natural to me

Anyway it's worth a shot.. the bot opponents are not bad actually 😎

Scarily I almost toppled myself over backwards when I was reaching for the ball

With Apple's Vision Pro VR/AR headset set to go on sale on February 2, we're starting to see more details about the app requirements. For example, the company has released guidelines for visionOS developers planning to release apps and there's one strange caveat. It would rather developers don't use the terms AR and VR when referring to Vision Pro apps, but rather call them "spatial computing apps," according to the developer page spotted by 9to5Mac.

    Apple acting the eejits again.

    VR App: 10 euro

Apple Spatial Computing App: 59.99 😆

The headset is €3,500. Who is their target audience? 🙂

    Not me thats for sure!

I'd be thinking of the Quest 3 + Wifi 6E router + PC I could get for that.

In Death had a Meta Quest 3 update.

My favourite VR game of all time (initially in its Rift incarnation, but then I grew to love the Quest version despite the short shard throwing distance).

It's just beautiful now. Ultra sharp, PCVR quality. The draw distance is incredible. Even the stained glass windows have a lovely 3D texture on them now.

Ended up playing from 11pm to 2am last night. Great shoulder workout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

Got this 6 months ago but haven't played. Ive heard many say similar. All time favourite game.

Must get into it. Currently finishing up a really good Portal 2 mod. Will play In Death next for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,965 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

It's the most natural feeling bow and arrow game... just "feels real" ... apart from all the demons obvs.

Nailing a headshot from a distance feels really good.. feels like you earned it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

Watched last night. No mention of VR at all!

Saw the Oculus logo for about 3 seconds before these merged to form the Meta logo 😆.

Average documentary really. Message was basically: "Zuck has too much power for 1 person"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

Damn. First game Ive seen for Quest 3 only. Townsmen VR. Also on SteamVR so hopefully most Quest 3 only titles will be PCVR too as they would be closer in gfx than Quest 2 v PCVR.

Gave Bulletstorm VR a go yesterday for an hour... it's rough, really rough. Reminded me of a bad Oculus Go game in fact.

Had to refund unfortunately... interesting that when paying with store credit, the refund was instant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

This is 90% off in SteamVR. Down to 3 euro. Won 5 gaming baftas apparently.

    Anyone played it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,965 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I've had it for about 3 years and it's on my TODO list :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

Just in case anyone thinking bout buying a battery strap. Maybe worth holding off to see what bobovr reveal.

I'm thinkin this was what they were talking about a while back when they stated they were working on a new higher power battery pack for quest 3.

Edit: Id say the new battery pack will be available to buy separately and be compatible with previous straps.

Ah, I only just went with a new strap a couple of days ago. Went for the Aubika bundle. Needed a case too and the bundle seemed decent enough value. New strap is so much more comfortable anyways.

Thats some spec and feature list. 10,000mah battery pack not backward compatible. Its look amazing though.

    119 euro

    Dayum.

    Anyone tried the 3DS emulator?

I never had a 3DS (stopped at the DS Lite), but Mario Kart 7 looks amazing.. and the 3D effect is supposed to be great too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,093 ✭✭✭Doge

There's an upgrade kit for the m2 straps too coming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

I missed that. Excellent. Thought theyd have to do something for the M straps or a lot of those who recently bought wouldn't be impressed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,030 ✭✭✭nedd

On battery straps, I got the KiwiDesign battery strap for my Quest 3. It is brilliant, I highly recommend for anyone. I use it for playing Asgard sitting and my son has been using it playing Gorilla Tag, standing and jumping around like a maniac.

Very comfortable and it at least doubles the play time. I have put in 2 hour sessions on Asgard 2 with little to no discomfort. I could barely get an hour with the default strap.

My Nabalch case for the quest 3 came this week from AliExpress and it seems great quality was very well packed too. It has lovely soft plush fabric on the inside, and fits the controllers and headset like a glove. It also holds 2 AA batteries.

In the 2nd pic you can see it holds a lot of stuff in the upper pocket too and most importantly of all, fits the BOBOVR M2 Halo Strap!

It's not as huge as I was expecting compared to the Rift S case I used for the quest 2, but it's pretty high so can fit a lot of stuff in upper half.

It's sold on temu here for €26:

     https://share.temu.com/dPNMKPeWtsA

And heres the AliExpress seller I bought it from:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,965 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I've never used temu, you have to select a seller is it?

Or are you just saying that you can buy it on Temu or AliExpress?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,093 ✭✭✭Doge

Temu has much faster delivery and will credit your account with a fiver if you don't get your package within about 2 weeks I think.

It's the same as AliExpress in that different sellers have stores you can buy from.

They will combine the package too if you order items from different sellers in a certain time frame.

If you go to the support chat bot and type "can I have a voucher" and send it about 3 times in a row they will send 20% off voucher in the next few hours.you will receive it by email.

I'd recommend it over AliExpress in that you should receive it quicker.

They use anpost, fastway and GLS I think. Some people are having delays with fastway at the moment though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,965 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Ah right haven't used either Temu or Aliexpress

I guess it would be like Amazon where u can select alternate sources to buy a product from

When buying games do you check the update history to see if the game is being updated regularly enough or abandoned? I was put off a few games in the latest sale after checking version history

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

Would usually look at a few of the latest reviews. If no major issues would still give the game / app a go. Can always refund.

Seeing reports this morning Team Beef ports will now appear in latest Virtual Desktop version.

I havent any installed myself yet but will definitely try a few now.

I gave this a go earlier. It's grand for €2. I haven't played a flying game before so it's new to me. Definitely times where my brain/stomach isn't sure what's happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

Haven't played it. Not really into flying games. It was posted in a Facebook group and a few said it was a bargain. I always take a look at a YouTube review before buying any game. Even a game at 2 euro 😄

that looks like it is still on offer

one thing I meant to say was that the offer states half price and shows a code on the website..... it's a slightly different code to what @jj880 posted above though. I only used jj's code, so not sure if the one on the website will only give half price so just to beware if anyone is looking

Skyrim VR down from 60 euro to 15 euro on Steam.

Not great unmodded hence the Steam store reviews. 1 of the best PCVR games after modding apparently. Anyone successfully modded it? Im reading it takes a bit of effort.

    PS Remote Play on Quest

This is something I had googled and always seemed very convoluted. I followed a newer guide and got it working over the weeked.

It looks amazing, I have a 1080p TV so doesn't feel like a step down from 4k quality. In fact playing on a massive screen is great.

I played some Helldivers 2 and it works great, I was in a voice party with my brother and that wasn't great. As a workaround I joined the voice party on my phone using earbuds (in passthrough mode). Chat quality was perfect and I could still hear the game.

    Steps:

    1. Install file browser using SideQuest (getting side quest working is very easy, you just need a laptop/computer)
    2. Install PS app and remote play app (download the apk from the web, I used UptoDown)
    3. Log into PS App
    4. Log into Remote Play App (do it in this order)
    5. Connect your controller (hold Share button and PS button for a few seconds), Bluetooth settings in quest.
    6. Set up remote play using the app and your PS.
    7. Stretch the screen to whatever size you want it (every time you do anything with screen size, or change app on the quest, remote play disconnects).
    8. I had a problem where it wouldn't connect. I restarted the PS5 and it work.

This is the guide I followed.

Games catalogue being added to Meta+ subscription on March 1st. Titles to be rotated in and out to keep it fresh. Initial games:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,965 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

So u get all those instead of the usual 2 each month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

The article reads like the catalogue is in addition to the 2 monthly games. Thats how it sounds to me anyway:

Next month’s picks are multiplayer military shooter Contractors and narrative-driven immersive puzzler Shadow Point. And if you’ve already subscribed (or you join by February 29), be sure to download our February titles: I Expect You To Die and DYSCHRONIA: Chronos Alternate.

But wait, there’s more! On March 1, we’re introducing a new games catalog

Perhaps Meta upping their game for when the 6 months free Meta+ runs out for a lot of Quest 3 owners...

I love the new hacks people are doing to put the Apple Vision Pro strap on their Quests. Apparently very comfy... also v portable.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,145 Mod ✭✭✭✭bruschi

more of a vent here than anything else, but my god, the meta support is by a long way the worst I have ever encountered. a shambles doesnt even cover it.

So, I ordered the quest with a discount offer of a free head strap. Meta messed up the order, cancelled it and when I went to reorder, told me that the offer was gone and I'd have to pay full price. Now, as it turns out, it seems the meta head straps are crap, so the bobovr one is better, but even so, it was a cock up by them that cost me €60

I get the headset, a present for my 12 year old daughter. I went about getting the €30 referral through here. That takes about a week and a load of emails to meta and confirmation. far more hassle than it should be. Anyway, eventually comes through. Buy a couple of games, set up the VR for my daughter, Christmas is all good.

Then the start of it. She gets a message saying to verify her age. When I see it, I see the under 13s have to have parental supervision. So I set that up with my meta account and add myself to it, upload her ID to verify age, but nothing works. Then her account is suspended. No correspondence or checks, just suspended. Try sort it. No luck. A load of bots and automated responses. Twitter helps a bit, but it just gives me another person saying they'll look into it. So looking at the meta forum, its a common problem, with no solution from meta. So the best solution is to factory reset, start over by adding the child under the adult account, rather than the other way around. And then to contact meta to get the games refunded/transferred. Do that, have her set up, go look for refunds.

4 weeks after they suspended her, they tell me the 14 days for refunds has passed. But you suspended her and took 4 weeks to come back, how can I get the 14 days if you do that? silence, we're sorry, we'll look into it. Thank you for your patience. Then, 6 weeks later, an email "your account was restored, sorry". 3 minutes later, "verify your age, your account is suspended". So there is no point in even trying to go back to the original account.

Eventually, they refund 2 of the games. The referral credit? nothing, no response, wont even answer me. So I go about loading games back up, with the sharing set up, I set it up on my account, and add it to hers. I get some of the in app add ons for beat sabre. But they dont show up. So now, I see that while you can share apps, you cant share the in app purchase. Bloody hell. So I'll go get a refund and just put it directly on her account instead. Oh no you wont, meta wont refund in app purchases. So now I've wasted even more money again.

Its a clusterf of woeful support network. I'm sure shes happy playing the few games on it and getting the VR experience, but as a company and support, it leaves a lot to be desired. I see on the support forums people have lost far more than I have, so maybe count myself lucky in some ways, but things that should be really simple really arent and they have no method of actually providing support, just auto responses that try appease people.

Anyway, long rant over. I wish I knew a lot about this before I bought it. I never expected it to be this time consuming and difficult.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,326 ✭✭✭jj880

Thats shocking. Luckily haven't had to use support much but from the referral thread here posters have said contacting Meta through WhatsApp gets the best results.

Ive not bothered with parent / child stuff on any gaming platform after losing money buying a game years ago. Dont even think it was anything age inappropriate either. Fifa or something but there are lots of rules you wouldn't expect which is fair enough to protect younger players. Since then any accounts were setup with over 18 DOB with a copy of any apps on my phone to keep an eye on group chats etc. Not saying this is what anyone else should do but worked for us and saved a lot of hassle.
