Same! The Open and InterD streams confuse me. InterD seems to move really fast, and Open a lot slower. Does anyone know where in the OOM the Open is at?

There's a lot of rules, but you get used to them.

I have just got called to the Ap stage 3 interview in the open stream and I selected Dublin as number 1 choice and my home county as second choice. I am pretty certain there will be no vacancies in my home county. I am not working presently in the Civil Service. If by some miracle I was successful in getting the role , and waited 2 years for mobility , and met the other mobility criteria, does anyone have an idea how long would I be waiting if I wanted to return to the Kerry/ Limerick area. I understand this is difficult to answer as the mobility is advert based and depends on a number of variables. Just trying to gauge from anyone in a similar position what present timelines are like.

    @J1980

Mobility opportunities at higher grades can be few and far between compared to the more numerous posts. They are also competitive when offered at AP level - if you've heard of "Waitlist Mobility", you should know that it doesn't exist at AP level.

There's also some big distances between some areas across Kerry and Limerick counties! Would you be happy to work in Limerick City or down in Caherciveen for example, or are you looking at places nearer the border of the counties?

This is off the top of my head, but I know that Limerick City has a large number of posts, partially because Revenue has a really big presence there. Caherciveen sticks in my mind because it has the national HQ for the Legal Aid Board (although that may have fewer generalists, and more specialist legal professionals.) Tralee likely has a sizable amount as well, but I'm not certain of it.

Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to get mobility at all (or certainly in a timely fashion), although you can also go for open AP competition again and only select counties closer to home.

I’ve lost track of this thread a bit over the last couple of months. Are people still being shortlisted after passing the online tests & if so what’s the ballpark number from the online tests that they have reached? Also if you haven’t been shortlisted will they tell you?

    Thanks!

So why would the agencies not pull from it? They will have existing civil servants eligible to apply too. Is the clue in the name? "Interdepartmental". I would just love to know for certain.

There may be some confusion here. Civil Service bodies can all pull from the panel, but non-CS bodies that are in the public service or wider public sector cannot.

The term 'State Agencies', while not really excluding CS bodies, is often used to refer to bodies in the public sector.

The Departments are all CS bodies, but so are Revenue, Courts Service, OPW, PAS, and many more. I think there are around 25-30 CS bodies in all.

I got assigned just before Christmas and HR provided me with a February start date. They said I would receive the contract and other paperwork in early January, but I haven’t received anything. I emailed today but there has been no response yet. I’m starting to get really worried as the start date is in less than a month now and need to make arrangements with my current employer, although they have assured me 3-4 times that they will issue the contract as soon as possible.

I emailed PAS and they told me they are currently recruiting for: Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Westmeath, Laois, Offaly and Wexford.

So there's about two months between offer and start date, is that more or less correct? Or is it quicker?

Do you mind me asking what batch you were in? Were you open or interdepartmental and what your OOM was after interview? I’m trying to figure out when I might be called for clearance. Thank you

A little update for those who might be struggling (like me!!) to keep up where the OOM is at. Email from PAS today.

“You are in order of merit 14 in batch 3.1 on the Open stream. Currently, we are clearing Open candidates from batch 2.2. Therefore, there are approx. 9 candidates ahead of you to be called for clearance before your position is reached.”

  • Registered Users Posts: 23 Gargoyle711

Is it just me or does that message not make sense?

The batch ahead of 3.1 is 2.2. If you are OOM 14 on 3.1 and there are 9 candidates ahead of you then surely they have moved to clearing batch 3.1?

I'm tempted to email myself to find out where things are at!

  • Registered Users Posts: 21 Tmea

I was thinking the same. also I’m OOM 6 in batch 3.1 and I haven’t heard from

them. Will let you know when I do.

i get the feeling they get some many queries they try to give a rough sense of where candidates are at but it’s not perfectly accurate

I thought it was something to do with the InterD stream, and candidates who have perhaps applied for both Open and InterD being taken out of the Open batches when they’re posted off InterD… if that makes sense??? But yes, extremely confusing!!

    Hi Folks,

It looks like the 2022 AP panel is still active - does anyone know when PAS will be running a new APO competition?

    Thanks. S.

  • Registered Users Posts: 44 Avdel

It was normally every 2 years but if they are still pulling from the 2022 and 2023 panel then its unlikely there will be one any times soon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 923 ✭✭✭furrybones

The 2022 panel was the last competition run and this is from the information booklet -

It is not envisaged that appointments will be made from this competition after 31st October 2024

I would expect the 2024 campaign to open around July

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts"

There was a comp in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022. There was no 2023 comp so there is no 2023 panel. The current panel is the 2022 panel and it expires on 31st October 2024. If they follow the trends of recent years, I think there will definitely be a 2024 comp launched soon, about 6 months before the 2022 panel expires. Lots of retirements, lots of new agencies, high level of attrition in the recruitment process indicate there will be another competition soon. I turned down my AP assignment last year so will be applying again.

    Hello,

Does anyone here applied for HEO in PAS last Septmeber/October 2023?

I got interviewed Dec 13th and got told I placed 1st on the Dec 15th.

Queried last Friday but only told that my application is currently with clearance team and nothing else. I was reading the trail and there are batches which can come from previous years. Just wanted to check how long is the process in the CS as I dont know anyone personally about the process and I have other offers coming up, just wanted to make sure I am not waiting for naught or giving up other opportunities for something might come after a year 😩

Just looking for some advice - I got assigned back in December and given a start for the beginning of February. They still haven't issued a contract because they say they're waiting on confirmation of my line manager, but have assigned me a division. I'm starting to get really worried as from next Friday, I might be unemployed! I emailed today asking for an update and expressing my anxiety over the situation, but no reply so I really don't know what to do?!

    Hi

Have you confirmation of your start date by email or through your message board? if so that sounds to me like you are ok. hopefully PAS will confirm the finer details with you shortly,

  • Registered Users Posts: 40 pip1414

I got the start date from the Department’s HR through email back in December. I’ve been handed on from PAS to the Department and they’ve just become so unresponsive that I don’t know what to do as I’m meant to starting in a week and a half

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 Tony29

You are fine, email your contact within the Dept next week, saying you are looking forward to meeting them /HR representative on x date. It is up to the HR to assign you to a division and/or entertain you for that day/days.

There is possibly some internal movement of existing APs within the Dept, it all takes time to notify staff of moves etc.

Any interview tips from people who’ve been through it so far? I’m a bag of nerves for my interview next week. Did people find the board cutting them off/ interrupting a lot? Were there any absolute curveballs? TIA.

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Swilly22

Hi Marky there is definitely a time pressure but I found the board so helpful, they guide you through it and you're told what's coming next. Just know your examples & experiences and how they fit in with the competencies. Know the role. The role as it is defined in the competition booklet, not just what an AP you may know does. I had no curveballs. Remember they will only ask you about the role and your experiences. This thread is full of great info. It's tough but the hour or so flies in. Best of luck

I had the same experience as Swilly. Very nice board and no curveballs. They probed quite deep into the examples I gave, but that is to be expected. The hour absolutely flew by.

One thing that was slightly out of the ordinary was that for one topic I wasn't given a chance to give an example, they just asked a range of questions based on different roles I held and had mentioned in my application.

Just had the interview yesterday, so we'll see how it went. I felt like the board were helpful and I got across what I needed to!

Is the hour inclusive of the presentation and questions? Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 186 ✭✭HydroTendonMan

Yes it is. Presentation and the Q&A takes about twenty minutes while the interview takes about 40.
