Run around car

Hi

Looking to pick up a run around car for next few months or so until I decide what to go for next

Have looked at hyundai i40s but heard terrible things about clutchs. Any suggestions don't want to spend much under 5k as will be just a run around but don't want something would break down after 2 weeks.

My mother selling her Micra for about half your budget! Its unlikely to break down, its as basic a car as you can get but some people just want that.

Apologies should of said something a bit bigger as I was looking at a hyundai i40 which is alot bigger then a micra or a prius thanks for the suggestions

If it's just a run around city/town car and you don't need to travel far, a Nissan Leaf EV might fit the bill. It won't be breaking down on you anytime soon. Very little to go wrong. Cheap to run and tax and all that other stuff. Here's a 2014 model with the newer battery which is at about 80% health, so 90-100km realistic winter range and 120km summer. It's in around your budget and is the top spec too. Looks small, but is like a Quashqai.

Don't buy an EV unless you can charge at home though.

Actually don't mind the look of the Nissan leafs , I will be mostly motorway driving not much city driving just the odd time

What year i40 looking at? The clutch issues were mainly fixed from 2015 onwards. There’s still 2013/2014 out there with no issues on them at all, really was luck of the draw on them. Nicest car in that class in my opinion if you get a top spec model.

A Renault Fluence is worth looking at. They are reasonably priced and pretty reliable.

those Renault meganes are very reliable from what I’ve read here about them. Seem to stay going without big horror stories

Just picked up a 1.6 Diesel Ford Focus Zetec with 150k miles for €4k. Nice car, I'm like you I just needed a 2nd car fast as I don't have time to look for something more expensive right now

Since you only need it for a few months make sure you get something that will sell on easily. Focus, Prius etc at a good price will always sell quickly.

I had one of them Meganes - great car, cheap to run great on fuel but the interior quality is very meh. Buttons braking and letters falling off etc.

4k was fairly cheap on the current market to be honest, but I was first to get there and it had been sitting a few months, your man just wanted it gone fast.
