You're being disingenuous with that "Christmas shopping" quip. I was working in the city that day, "they" complained because "they" couldn't get to work, home from work, pick kids up, medical appointments etc... And when the minister arrived to talk to the farmers in the morning they were caught on the hop, hung over or fast asleep in various hotels and their tractors as people walked by on their way to work, gym, school etc... I was there.

THere are indeed alot of pointless schemes that make no sense in terms of any type of farming or the environment. One that springs to mind is ploughing stubbles and chopping straw. Pure stupid!!

Don't think the actual figures back u up on that. In Ireland alone 1500 farmers are walking away from the industry every year atm. Since the start of this century, 5 million farmers have been lost across the EU. Yet the main farming orgs across the EU don't want any reform of the massive CAP budget which sees 80% of the cash go to just 20% of producers.

I think you will find if you look at the statistics the 1970s 80s and 90s after joining EEC were much better than the last 30years.

It's very easy step away when the organisation is destroyed and then say"I did it long enough you do it so"

The ifa was sent back to where it started. Strange for an organisation that represents people that are all about succession and the next generation.

Farming has changed immensely over the past 30 years, not in a good way in many cases,but that's the reality.

I would love to farm as I did when I started out but that's not possible. Change comes to all sectors and agriculture is not immune to it.Instead of wishing for something that isn't going to happen/ return perhaps people should engage with the current reality.

The " protests" last night were just an evening out for the twin beacon brigade where they could burn diesel, show off their freshly powerhosed gear and will achieve the sum total of fcuk all.

They were starting out at Rogers farm and heading to the motorway and fair play to them.
