Hi guys, my wife was successful in interview for a CO competition last year and was put on the panel. She was then offered one CO position by email that she didn't accept and has heard nothing since. Is this typical? It said that once she accepted an offer she would be taken off the panel, so we assumed there would be more than one CO position being offered to her.

Was she offered a position, or asked to express interest?

Normally once you turn down an offer you're removed from the panel, get her to contact PAS and they'll clarify for her.

Sometimes there are different panels for different counties. Turning down an offer from one doesn't take you off the other. But I agree with the previous poster that contacting PAS is the way to go.

It depends on the organisation.

What you've described is how it works for core government departments.

But for the HSE, and come councils, ETBs, etc, people on the panel are asked to express interest, the top "expresser" gets the job, and the rest stay on panel.

Hi, yes I think it's literally a waiting game. I've been sent two expression of interests both in December. Said yes to one, no for the other. I've heard nothing since. Thought I had a good chance as my number is in the 60s. Is it true that the more jobs in the civil service you apply to the faster you get called?

Yes, it's typical. Some panels run for years and only a few jobs come up for them.
