I've been in operating rooms with windows.

"Targeting hospitals and medical personnel intentionally, and as a strategy of war, is a war crime."

The ICJ voted on six provisional measures:

    1. For Israel to take "all measures" to prevent acts of genocide from taking place - 15:2
    2. To ensure the IDF does not engage in any acts of genocide - 15:2
    3. To prevent and punish public incitement to genocide, including by government and military officials - 16:1
    4. To enable basic services and humanitarian aid to reach Gazan civilians - 16:1
    5. To preserve evidence related to violations of Genocide Convention - 15:2
    6. To submit a report to the ICJ within one month on all measures taken - 15:2

As regards the statement on hostages, the sentence starts "The Court deems it necessary to emphasize"

No words such as "the court rules", "orders", "judges that" etc.

No ruling, judgement, finding or order stating "The court finds Hamas are in breach of International law"

No ruling, judgement, finding or order stating "The court finds Hamas have committed war crimes"

The statement posted: "ICJ ruled that Hamas were in breach of international law and was carrying out a war crime in keeping hostages"

US President Joe Biden has said that countries receiving American weapons must adhere to international law in a memorandum issued on Thursday night.

It is very revealing to see the pedantry / technicalities being used by some posters to defend and excuse Palestinian / Hamas actions - and how those many of those posters have no problem in making sweeping claims that Israel is engaged in “genocide” and “war crimes”, even after the ICJ pointedly refused to make any such judgements.

It's revealing how many reputable news sources are quoted to back up those "sweeping claims".

Even the US has said Israel has "gone over the top".

Some of the Israeli crimes are pretty obvious though.

Ethnic cleansing and collective punishment are the 2 most obvious. As obvious as the Hamas crimes of kidnapping and targeting civilians.

You don't need a ruling from any international court to call Hamas out, but you do for Israel?

    Haaretz:

    • The U.S. State Department said that an Israeli military operation in Rafah, where many civilians are sheltering, "would be a disaster."

    • U.S. President Joe Biden said on Thursday night that Israel's conduct in Gaza has been "over the top," adding that he is working to achieve a sustained pause in fighting.

    • The Israeli Supreme Court ordered on Friday the release of Umm al-Fahm resident Ahmed Kalifah from detention, after he was arrested during a protest against the war in Gaza. Despite being accused of incitement to terrorism, the court ruled against his continued detention, citing insufficient evidence to justify it.

Pots and kettles , and there has generally been a distinction between Hamas and Palestinians, in that no one is actively supporting Hamas

    Haaretz:

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that Israeli forces have entered the Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.

Senior U.S. military intel officers told Congress members in private conversations that it appears only a third of Hamas' fighters have been killed in Gaza, the New York Times reported. The officers also reportedly said that while Israel has degraded Hamas' military capabilities, it is not close to eliminating it.

Almost one in 10 Gazan children under the age of five are now acutely malnourished, according to initial UN data from arm measurements that show physical wasting.

The Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry said at least 27,946 Palestinians have been killed and 67,459 wounded since the war began.

Norway said it is giving $26 million in 2024 to UNRWA, and could increase that sum if needed, days after the agency warned it could cease all activity by the end of the month.

    Haaretz:

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum demanded a meeting with the war cabinet following what they called "a string of events and comments raising difficult questions relating to the cabinet's commitment to freeing the hostages." The families demanded to know if that commitment still stands, or if negotiating power should be "handed over to other parties."

Yossi Sharabi – a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 and pronounced dead last month – was most likely killed in an Israeli strike, according to an IDF investigation.

We know that they attacked barracks, we know that their was an incident at Nova which led to a wholesale slaughter by the IDF.

We have to find out what actually happened first.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,188 ✭✭✭dmcdona

The 3 Palestinians, one paralysed from the waist down, extrajudicially killed (though someone said "whacked") by the IDF, was widely cheered on by pro Israelis.

Seems those actions may constitute war crimes.

    The hypocrisy is palpable.

"The killing of three Palestinian men in a West Bank hospital in January by Israeli commandos disguised as medical workers and Muslim women may constitute war crimes, a group of UN experts said on Friday."

Ah bless.....Israel don't like little old Ireland calling out their nonsense still.

The more they shout "Anti Semitism" the more pathetic they look.

Israel is not a normal country at all. Just a pathetic whinging shower of bollixes. You'd almost feel sorry for them if they weren't such maniacs.

So genocide Joe finally realises the Israel has gone far too far in Gaza. Not the quickest or brightest our Joe. They went too far from the start. It is Netanyahu's plan to depopulate Gaza. Possibly with the aim of settling it like they have the West Bank. Israel has gotten away with genocide. It's incredible and depressing in equal measure. Israel of all countries has come closest to re-enacting what the Nazi's did to Jews in WW2. I hope I live long enough to see a Palestinian state free from Israeli interference.

And yet the squad will be on here again defending it. Disgusting really.

My wife and other mums from the school (ordinary suburban middle age etc.) have bought watermelon t-shirts; this slaughter is really getting to people in a way that nothing else has. Even the class teacher was out on the marches.

Despite their lies and attempts to control the online space the Israelis are losing the information war - they are in a different category now, like the Nazis.

I hope we see a Palestinian State free from their interference and our own State, financial institutions, media, neighbouring States free from their interference.

Palestine is where the war is fought hot but everywhere is getting some hostile actions.

Israel after 7th Oct, definitely not all of them.

Hamas on 7th Oct, none of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 812 ✭✭✭Hey boy

So set out your thoughts for the day after the war ends then. Your aspirations above are with respect fairly one sided and unrealistic but it would be interesting to tease it out a bit. Remember Israel needs security.

So the little 6 year girl I posted a tweet about recently who was In a car and phoned for help after he whole family were killed has been found dead.

For some reason the usual suspects who whinged about me posting tweets seemed to ALL miss that one and never commented (anyone surprised?) maybe they will comment on this one, I wonder what excuses they will make up for IDF scumbaggery today?

Will Ireland refuse to shake hands with them?

    Hint: no, they won't.

S'Ok to attack Israel in Ireland though, Ireland being under the control of the RCC still.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,443 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

So, that poll of Palestinian attitudes showing 70+% approval of what Hamas has done, is no one supporting Hamas. Posted to the thread here some time ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,188 ✭✭✭dmcdona

The audio recording of the emergency call was harrowing. How terrified must she have been?

6 years of age - she did not deserve to die.

What is happening in Gaza to the civilian population is depraved, abhorrent and simply inhuman. Anyone blindly justifying the Israeli campaign or simply ignoring it are shameful in my opinion.

But, there are those on both sides of the coin who see that both the Israelis and the Palestinians have to have peace and security. They have to co-exist in safety. There has to be a solution for the civilians on both sides.

No-one in their right mind can justify what Hamas did on Oct 7th nor any atrocities committed before then or afterwards. Equally, there is no justification for the IDF actions to date in their response nor the actions of the Israeli Government - both in Gaza and the West Bank.

Israel is justified in its actions to remove Hamas but for the love of God, not at the expense of 6 year old girl - or any other innocent child or civilian.

And in today's episode of what scumbaggery can the IDF get up to here we have an IDF soldier casually looting a Palestinian families home and posting his crime on Tik Tok

All in self defence of course

Will our resident IDF supporters make any comment, I'll be over here not holding my breath.
