38 -17 to Ireland, too many changes for Ireland, plus Italy are a decent team with an excellent backline.

Can someone maybe correct the name of the team or delete this mess of a thread?

Don’t think it will matter much but how come Ireland got a long break between games. 2 extra days given its Fri to Sunday

Any chance of fixing the spelling of Ireland in the opening post as well?

I think this side is considerably weaker than the one that took the field last week and i can see the game being close for 60 mins.

mccloskey is a good player and deserves to play, but Aki has been performing a few levels above him for a while now. Stuart just doesnt have the same dynamic ability that aki has.

Casey is a step down on jgp in all facets of the game, not a massive step down but still a step down.

Baird will carry better that POM in traffic but we wont be able to put their lineout under as much pressure.

Beirne has been our most consistent reliable performer for a while now, often underrated he has been incredible in green and his experience will be a loss.

Doris out of position can have an impact, he has been incredible at 8 and it might be when vdf comes on for Conan that we see Doris making the most impact.

The other side is that Ryan and Henderson are fighting for their international lives, one of them wont be in the matchday 23 the next day and that pressure might bring the best out of them.

If we can carry the accuracy and intensity into this game that put france to the sword last week we can win easily but when a team makes that many changes it is going to have a knock on to the performance.

Irish rugby is back up on a cloud after last week, but i think that hope and expectation will be tempered a bit today

Baird is more then capable of pinching lineouts

Let's not forget Italy are without two of their most influential forwards as well. Negri is an abrasive tackler and cannone is a very important carrier for them. Their depth isn't as good as ours and their replacements are not as effective.

Cappuozo being back is good news for them, but Allen had being playing very well recently and his composure and organisation at the back might be lacking.

I don't see an understrength Italy against an understrength Irish team being within 20 points of us by the end. I'm hoping for a comprehensive rout by us

Never said he wasnt, but hes not at the same level POM is for putting pressure on their throw

TV 3 really has a piss poor product in their rugby coverage. How Matt Williams is still getting gig time is beyond me

Conan, Doris, Baird, Ryan and Joe Mac are all very competent jumpers.

I have no worries about the line out.

Big win with the max points would be nice here.

Broadcasting in SD is so bad, in this day and age.

    G'wan Ireland

  • He clearly throws in enough clickbait nonsense to keep the VM1 producers happy. They'll be promoting whatever he says today on YouTube later.

    ITV all day.

Gabby last name unknown a great anchor.

Parisse, BOD, Best all modern players who understand what they are talking about.

  • Hopefully the Italy side turn up and give us a good gane. We have more than enough in our 23 to beat them but I'd like to see our changed combinations perform under some pressure.

A bit of style would be nice to see today after the bottom of the barrel displays yesterday.

Farrell has rotated more for this game than ever before. A bit concerned that Italy could catch us cold.

Expect to win, but may not be easy.

    Keenan is brilliant.

    Crowley fab in that passage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,205 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

    Good try.

Some great running from Keenan, Henshaw and excellent passing and support from Crowley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,582 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

Crowley - Nash - Casey - Crowley... lovely stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,371 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

Crowley was excellent in that passage of play and varied his attack well, but the most important thing to me is seeing Henshaw making powerful runs after his relatively poor run of recent form. Great start.

Plenty of great contributions from multiple players in the lead up. Great team try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭bingobango12

Keenan, Henshaw, Crowley excellent in that passage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 793 ✭✭✭technocrat

    Great last pass from Casey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,473 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

Excellent stuff from way back, everyone making yards, Keenan starting it, Crowley got the finish but also had lots of touches in the middle of it. Henshaw and Casey integral too. Great start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

I thought it was Sexton's young fella initially!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭theVersatile

Henshaws with some really nice carries early on. Lovely delay on the last pass from Casey, good to get that after the dodgy box kick.

Italy almost look like they're standing off Crowley, he has lots of room to carry to the line and put on some footwork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

Keep attacking like that and Ireland will take Italy apart, holes and space everywhere to be exploited.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,205 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

No show like a Joe show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,063 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I felt Crowley could have made that conversion attempt easier by gaining another few metres before touching down for the try. Having said that, it was a poor kick.

  • Great start.

Im pretty sure that’s Crowley’s first ever try in senior rugby!
