I think the idea is that the others played fitz and last week so rested this week. Downeys played Fitz I think but didn't play last week so give them a run this week.

Last year Cork experimented the most in the hurling league (along with Limerick) with 38 players being used. More Cork players than any other team (35) started at least one game. Feels like this year Ryan is going to experiment less. I think he really wants a strong league so looking to get a result against Kilkenny.

Its all opinions as I read an article saying Collins played well against Clare but I would have liked to see Saunderson given a run. Others here gave out about him too. But we will see. I am hoping that the Clare game was just an off day. A lot of talk about Clare but Cork didn't score for almost 20 mins and still only lost by 3 points. If we get everything to click, it may go well but I really want a performance on saturday. We have to start showing what we can do rather than misfires and excuses.

A bit off topic but Ben O'Connor was man of the match for the Ireland Rugby U20s tonight in Cork. Scraped a win but he was immense scoring a good try.

I'd love to see him in a Cork Jersey again someday but great to see him doing well in Rugby

He was unbelievable. What a physical presence he is too. Greatly missed by Cork hurling but delighted to see him doing brilliantly with the Irish u20 rugby team.

Without tempting fate, I think he's going to have a massive future in the game. Has every attribute needed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Seadin

Two mins played and we are still doing the tippy tappy hurling as usual.

Pathetic display by Cork. We won't be getting out of Munster this year never mind getting to an All Ireland final.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Seadin

Patrick Collins woeful. He has to be taken off.

    Brutal.

    Too many soft players.

    No physicality.

    Constipated hurling.

The same players playing the same brand of hurling year after year.

A few minutes of graft and all of a sudden we are only a goal down at gt.

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭queueeye

It’s very hard to not run into trouble when the short passing game isn’t working. Decent last 5 minutes but Kilkenny should be out of sight by now the way Cork have been playing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Seadin

If we repeat what we did against Clare last week and not score in the first 15 mins, we won't be winning this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 122 ✭✭FantasyFool

Downey going off a good thing for Cork?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,895 ✭✭✭gifted

You mean a few minutes of actually giving a shite instead of poncing around the pitch

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,899 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

And if you only turned the game on now, you think it was a close game but Kilkenny should be further ahead.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,880 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

    Exactly, a bit of graft.

Too passive for nearly a half an hour.

Take your points for christ sake

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Seadin

    Kingston cost Cork the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,243 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

I think the first half as a collective team effort was more of an issue.

Absolutely. You cannot fluff that many goal chance, let alone against Kilkenny.

Those slow starts proved to be costly again. A good comeback all the same, but we're not going to win anything until we erase these fadeouts in games. I think Pat Ryan needs to make a statement here and drop a couple of players. We have a lot of options right now and let's be honest it doesn't look like some of those players, who've been here for a decade or at least nearly a decade will ever bring us to glory.

Enjoyed it at the end. Some very good play in the second half but the first half was woeful.

Coleman made a huge difference. I would say if he played the full game we would have won. Some fairly bizarre misses from hoggie but he still played very well.

Ref made a few strange decisions against us at crucial times. One where he said there was a push on the kk player when there was none and another few where Cork player clearly fouled but nothing given. A swing of over 5 points at least. I don't like the ref handing out loads of yellow cards to both sides as well. Lot of them were just frees, no need for yellow. Only maybe where Hoggie was pulled down and Coleman being late in tackle.

I think we learned a lot here though and while disappointing this game will prove to be very helpful. Once we get going we are hard to stop. The bad thing is we seem to take ages to get going and still in this game another long spell where we didn't score.

We messed up about 5 goal chances and we were very lucky with KK not getting that goal where he was slightly hooked and Collins saves it. But the goal chances for us were all messed up badly. Kingston had a very poor game whereas Lehane played well. It seems every game only 1 of the 2 plays well.

Yet again though, we have a game where we don't score for a long time. It is infuriating to see it happen again.

Still think this game will help us come championship. Surely Ryan sees now what works for us and what doesn't.

We can't keep picking the same players that have failed to deliver for years and expect things to change.

The big hope was that Pat Ryan would bring in players with a bit of fight in them and cut out that unnecessary passing for passing sake crap. His u-20 teams were well able to mix up the way they played and could win their own ball.

I'm very disappointed to see the same faces being picked that are doing the same things they've done for years. I'd be far happier to have less 'wristy' hurlers in than a few hardy bastards that will fight for everything.

The tippy tappy short passing stuff is infuriating. Cork scored the goal from a long puckout, won the broken ball and scored. But hardly tried it again for the whole match and went back to the short passing crap around the back. Won't get out of Munster again playing like that.

And those 20 minute stretches of being completely out of the game are incredible in how often they happen. It's like they collectively go to sleep for long stretches of the game.

He was a hothead who could be nearly sent off every game..

Cork hurling could do with a few on the edge characters like him.

I keep saying it but the ladies footballers won't be going far this year. All new players and now Katie Quirke has a bad knee injury she got while playing for ucc.

    Hope her recovery goes well.

In good news, Sean Powter is available again for the men's game against Cavan.
