Starts on 1st February at 9pm on BBC1.

I'll inevitably claim I dislike it but still catch every episode.

Karren Brady and Tim Campbell back as advisors as expected.

I'll be watching as usual and complaining that the whole format is stale as usual.

Thought Claude might return for this season

    Candidates

The Apprentice 2024 candidates: Meet the cast facing Lord Sugar | Radio Times

"You were disruptive, you got in the way of the project manager, I won't have disruptive people - you're fired"

"You hid for the task, you didn't attempt to stop the project manager making their mistakes, I won't have wallflowers - you're fired"

My anger is rising already. But will watch every ep obviously.

Predicting the Wexford candidate to be gone in first three weeks for no valid reason.

Same type of teams, same engaging cringe ( that chap who clapped in the boardroom ).

How much work has Karen had done? A face like a melted welly

Project manager should have been fired but I think they have a policy of not sacking the PM in the first week as no one would put themselves forward. They should provide some of the customer feedback then it would be obvious why they lost the task, stupid dancing, poor time management, food, lack of alcohol etc.

The Irish one was quiet enough, early days yet though I suppose.

Cheesecakes mostly looking like primary school project results.

Ginger guy is a ringer for Jay from Inbetweeners, in looks and attitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 956 ✭✭✭GAAcailin

the lad he fired literally did nothing. Sugar hates anyone that skulks under the radar; he probably felt it better to give the (useless) PM another chance - he screwed up but at least didn't do nothing.

The episode was cringy; like can not even one of them cook. Imagine presenting fish cakes with a sweet crumble on the outside. Wouldn't want that doctor or dentist near me.

The show has really run its course - but I am still watching!!

Flo Edwards (the lady who did the negotiations with the corporate client) has been the standout so far. Completely calm, good tone of voice, organised, focussed, clear-thinking. Has shades of Helen Milligan who won 10/11 tasks the year Tom the Inventor got the investment.

Can see Flo blitzing every task this year. Obviously Helen ultimately lost out in the interviews as she wanted to branch out into a different area from her speciality, which they rejected and she then tried to put a new business plan together and the whole thing became a shambles. If Flo Edwards's plan is sensible and related to her current work (especially with her being a recruitment consultant which has twice been the winner ) then she looks the most likely victor.

(Obviously a decent chance that I am way off and they have been editing her nicely to build up to an imminent collapse)

Irish Yoga teacher was on with Callan this morning

Interestingly, she said each task does take a week, so they are locked up for twelve weeks.

Yer man calling Sugar "mate" when he fired him was kinda funny.

One contestant is in a bit of hot water - don't open if you are looking forward to tonights' episode:

Apologies but I am clearly unable to enter spoilers..

Meh, not sure why'd you'd mention the persons occupation (which immediately gives them away) or post a link whose name gives the story away without even clicking on it.

Delete it, or spoiler it imo. And maybe in future make a note not to post anything spoilery about an ep before the ep has actually aired.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

    Not clicking the link but:

Apprentice contestant and anti-semitism mentioned in the link says to me: someone is going straight to you are fired "Do not pass go, do not collect 250,000"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

I heard it and she sounded good. Well spoken. Her business plan is not too out there.

She confirmed what I'd already assumed, that Sugar and his minions check out the business plan before they select the contestants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,617 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Yep, even in his book Lord Sugar admits that business plans are given a cursory going over at the outset but without much deep diving. But certainly it would explain some of the more curious early firings in the last few years!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Well they would have to. You can't wittle down to the final 4 only for the most likeable, best performing candidate to turn around and say their business idea is half way between Deliveroo and OnlyFans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,617 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Half way between Deliveroo and OnlyFans?

"You will be my next business partner"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Lord Sugar, with my business model, I can have another "partner" to join us, here in 20 minutes. 😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

For me, a fella, a quick shower and then jump into my ready to go suit, I could just about manage that 20 minute wake up call to out the door.

I really do not believe the lady-folk with drying hair and makeup can do it in 20 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Watching these escape room theme ideas, Im thinking of Fr Ted.

Ted: You know, I think that could work. It will work.

    Dougal: It won't work Ted.

Ted: No it won't but it's worth a shot.

A load of people on Twitter don't seem to realise that the 50k and 170k "investments" from the gaming companies are not real investments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 956 ✭✭✭GAAcailin

I think some of the candidates this year are ok (ish); that girl Sam is grand as is Flo. Kinda like the Irish girl Maura too.

Would not like that Doctor anywhere near me (physically)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

It's said every year "these are the worst set of candidates", but they grow on you after a few weeks. I like Maura too and Flo is very capable. I think Noor has potential.

None of the fellas have stood out as being either capable or likeable yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 956 ✭✭✭GAAcailin

Think Tre is the only lad that is standing out in any capacity.

Poor Noor was dismissed last night a few times

I recognised him, he was on first dates before, and revealed his hair piece. Fooling nobody with it 😅. Bit of a joker and it cost him. They're all quite poor again this year.

Same old boring tasks every year surely someone could think of a few new ones Zzzzzzzx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,926 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

Plus the call is at 4 am but 20 minutes later it's light outside

Next week's task is one of the better measures that's not subjective, simply get an exact list of items as cheap as you can.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

They do vary the tasks a bit, but it's a yardstick to measure performance, and see how people do outside of their comfort zone or sometimes, even in their comfort zone.

Lord Sugar: Candidate1, what is your business proposal about?

Candidate1: Its a cupcake selling business.

Lord Sugar: So the last task was right up your alley then and you were the project manager. Karren, how many cupcakes did they sell?

    Karren: None.

Unless they have a seperate shower for each of the candidates, I assume the 20 minutes thing is bollox. And yes, they always get the call at 5am, and leave in broad daylight.

I keep meaning to look at the computer display when the secretary tell them to go into the boardroom - I suspect it never changes :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Yeah its definitely a screen saver or something. Also why would Sugars secretary be looking at graphs and Pie Charts?

I think it's safe to say some aspects of the Apprentice are made up. Which is hardly surprising. The Corporate world is not really super exciting and does not make good television unless there is a little bit of editorial license used to inject a little drama.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,617 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

The boardroom itself is a studio, no actual work is done there so the secretary is just a production crew member :)

Comic Relief Does the Apprentice even took the piss out the secretary screen and had the secretary watching cat videos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,617 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

That may have been one of, if not, the worst attempts at the procurement tasks ever. It was almost impressive how bad that team was.

I don't think I've ever seen the entire team (when it's that big) be called into the final boardroom. Crazy stuff. Amina and Jack were utterly shocking mind so thank God they were offed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

In previous years they have been sent to foreign countries, where there may have been a language barrier for the comically bad performances, or lack of knowledge of local culture.

Sending them to an island that is mostly english speaking and located in the English channel.

Not knowing various terms is forgivable but getting shackles and shucking mixed up and so asking for shackled oysters is a red flag from a reading comprehension point of view.

That idiot looking for a 75% discount deserved to go. He also jumped in on Maura's negotiation.

I've noticed quite a bit of male chauvinism this year, has anyone noticed that?

Ive been watching every year for about a decade and this task is my favourite but this year has got to have been the worst.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,668 ✭✭✭✭Mr. CooL ICE

The cars being outside in 20 minutes doesn't mean they'll be leaving in 20 minutes. There's no real gotcha there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,617 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Yep and the reality is that the phone call isn't an alarm clock that wakes them up. Even last week you could see that whoever answered the phone was half dressed already. It's just edited that way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,487 ✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

When we say this is the worst group of contestants ever, I watched a few episodes from Series 11 and 12 the last few nights and they were as bad if not worse than the current lot. Some real cringe scenes.

I'd say Sugar is sat with a bucket of Popcorn watching some of these tasks, laughing his socks off at the next cringe task.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,696 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

How would these companies be giving millions to a group of people with no experience in this industry.
