    There isn’t the exact vetting form online but there is a form with the vetting criteria ie tattoo policy, driving offences etc.

    You can look up the CTC form I believe but not the psni one, there’s a bit of overlap psni ones a lot smaller

    Does anybody know what they do in induction?


    I assume uniform, briefs, drug test (or is that when we get to gv) and just general admin stuff really?

    Induction is approx 1 month before you start GV. You get a few talks from Staff, Sgts etc.

    Youll also get fitted for your uniform ie Kit Belt, Forage Cap etc. And fitted for your Body Armour.

    Drug testing is your medical so this won’t happen on Induction Day.

    You also get what District you are going to when you finish GV.


    I am out of GV a few months now and in Station. If anyone in this forum has any questions feel free to ask or PM.

    On the vetting forms do we have to put down our entire employment history? I can’t remember supervisors names from 20 years ago 🫣

    @Madrid250 how do they tell you your district? Do you get like a pack and it just says it or do you get called into a meeting room and told in person or?

    Also do you make your preferences when welcome pack comes out? When you did it were all available?

    They’ll probably call out your name and service number then tell you your district. You get to pick 4 you’d like but to be honest they’ll send you wherever they want haha I didn’t get any of my preferences.

    close to the end of GV they’ll ask what station you’d prefer in your district and you’ll get allocated one. Again I didn’t get my preferred option. Happy enough where I am now though. You can technically move within your district in the first 3 years but it’s probably not that easy and won’t look great to your current section/station. you’re committed to your district for 3 years then you can request a move. If recruitment is frozen you can be waiting a long time. It’s a hard job at times but I can’t imagine going back to a desk job.

    The way you said they can send you anywhere. Is it literally anywhere? Say someone lived in Ards & North Down District, would they not bat an eyelid sending you to Fermanagh & Omagh District?

    In theory yes but I’d imagine they wouldn’t. You can appeal your district as well if it really is an issue. You don’t really hear of people having to travel much longer than 1 hour each way.

    Was talking to a Constable in newtownabbey station who told me his mate from GV lives in newtownabbey and has to travel to Strand Road.

    The guy that travels car shares with people but issue there is if they’re held on you’re screwed…

    Aye I travel 2+ hours per day. You just get used to it. Reality of the job is you’re going to have to travel you’ll be lucky if it’s under 45 minutes each way.

    Is there a minimum distance requirement you have to be from your home that you can work? Obviously you cant work in the district you live, but could you be in the next one over?

    @Anonymous4321 You can work in your home district I believe. I think unless you raise security concerns yourself they’re not going to think about it. Used to see a girl who lived in Antrim who’s dad also worked in Antrim (steeple)

    No support for fuel unfortunately. Don’t think there are any rules about working in your own district but I personally wouldn’t want to. Might be awkward standing in line at Tesco with someone you’ve arrested the night before. There’s nothing to stop you moving close to your station once you’ve been given it. You’ve 3 years at your first station so if you’re renting that’s an option. Bit harder if you’re settled or have family etc.

    NITA is a supplement for the living changes and precautions you take for the difference in personal security over here. Nothing to do with fuel.

    Yes i know what it is. But apart from buying a ring doorbell or something what else can you do. Therefore getting 3 or so grand annually wouldn't be too bad if you used it for fuel.

    I guess as well if you’re varying your route to work and going longer = using more fuel, so basically is for precautions!

    You find out at the start of the course now what district you are going to (To many quitting after being trained and not wanting to travel) From my course only 1 or 2 really got shafted with long distances. Everyone else got what they wanted

    See once your first 3 years are completed. Can you immediately start to apply for any specialist group, or do you have to wait for them to internally advertise? Ie is it on a 1 in 1 out basis, or are they always looking for more people to join?

    Interesting for anyone that ends up reserve as well; you attend induction for the course you’re reserve for and find out your district at that, so if you end up not being taken for that course you end up with ~2 months notice. You can also choose to turn down being brought forward to the first course so you can take the 2 months notice.
