They'll eventually be right. Time waits for no man.

Not alone had POM to play how own game today he also had to help Porter keep his elbow up in the scrum today. 😂😂😂

Yeah the only one I could definitely remember was the 1st test vs NZ in 2022. What about the 6N match vs France in 2022? Didn't the French get a big lead and Ireland came back late to close the gap but never threatened? I think the RWC QF showed that this team struggles chasing a game.

Anyway, good win today but they should have put Wales to the sword. For all the possession and territory dominance in the 1st half, Ireland should have had a 25 to 30 point lead at halftime.

Its been a good decade now weve been waiting for someone to be right

They got the halftime score to 1 point behind. How is that struggling to chase a game?

You are correct about the France game, they went 22-7 up early in the second. But Ireland came back to 22-21 despite ultimately losing by 6.

Generally speaking when you go 14 points down you are a significantly worse team, but in both games they came back within 1 and ultimately lost by less than a try with the game in the balance. Maybe arguing when they're behind in the last quarter they have an issue makes more sense, but in both these cases they did chase the game and got right back in it.

And yes we should have been up by 25+ at the end of the first, and that would have rendered their strong patch at the start of the second immaterial.

I know, it's tiresome but that's on them rather than the player.

"Andy, Warran Gatland has said that the 31-7 scoreline wasn't very reflective of the 80 minutes, what do you think?"

"Probably should have been 44-7, shouldn't it?"

Faz isn't a man for mind games, but his immediately mobilized surface-to-air bullsh*t defense system is criminally under-rated.

O'Mahony had a very good game yesterday but Farrell must be finding it hard to leave Baird out at this stage. The man just looks like he is on the cusp of bursting into a complete game changer player. That touch on for the disallowed try was class.

Bench offers serious beef at the moment. We seem to be completely wearing teams down. Played 15+ mins with 14 men and looked far fresher than Wales in the final 10.

England game is going to be tricky I suspect. I think we have been only playing ok this championship but our structures and organisation are light years ahead of every other team in the competition.

Yes it's a bit of conundrum, POM been made captain now so has to start but Baird is having a huge impact at 6 it's hard to not start him there. Great problem to have mind you.............

Presume the logic is give POM 45-50 mins and then unleash Baird for 30 mins plus high tempo lunacy !! In a straight 1v1 selection it's a no brainer now for me Baird v POM - Baird wins but presume the above is Farrell's logic.

Every game though it gets trickier as Baird is really excelling.

I don't think it's that much of a conundrum at the moment. POM is captain and is going to start.

The conundrum will be next season when POM is a year older and Baird is hopefully even better (maybe still a wee bit of work on the hands required but he is much much much improved from where he was a year or two ago).

The sight of Baird rampaging up the field is a thing of beauty!

Baird has generally always done his best work coming off the bench also. There is nothing to discuss for the next two games indeed, but it will have a big impact on things next season you would think.

Baird has worked a lot on his game to get to where he is. He's always been a freakish athlete, but it's his improvements in defence and at the lineout that might see him become POM's long term successor. He's getting better and better at the dirty side of the game.

Doris has been excellent this tournament. He's another that can do just about everything. Against France he was a heavy carrier that made yards with big carries. But for the first half hour of that game he was buried in every ruck. Against Italy he played 7 and was the spoiler. Yesterday he was an all rounder.

One of the very best in the world.

Anyone watching France vs Italy? This is one of the most physically dominant displays I've ever seen. France are bullying Italy, but it's only 10-3 at half time. There's was a stat after 25 minutes that said France had 100% territory for the prior 10 minutes. Italy have defended brilliantly on their own line, but France look so poor in attack.

They look like they don't know how and when to use their backs. They're either going wide too early or too late. So many knock on or passes out to the wings against an Italy defence that was stretched but renumbered by the time the ball went wide.

Italy are doing everything they can to gift France possession. Maddening.

Very poor game, France utterly dominant physically but can't seem to string a few phases together.

Danty could get upgraded to Red card for high shot which will make things interesting.

France will win as Italy will eventually run out of steam, but France have been incredibly poor so far.

Physical yes, but not sure I'd call it physically dominant. More brainless.

Great to see (hear) a decent atmosphere at the game too. Looks like people who are actually interested in rugby get tickets in France.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,169 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

RTE confirm that Danty's tackle has been upgraded to a red card.

French discipline has been appalling this tournament. Two red cards for high tackles in three games.

Not sure what game you are watching.

There are long stretches of total silence with bursts of a few bits of singing.

    Atmosphere isn't great at all.

Despite the obvious regrets which we'll probably never get over, are people starting to ask, Johnny who?

I think it's clear a huge error was made in the World Cup semi final by leaving Sexton on. We don't seem to be missing him too much anyway.

England were very poor in the Calcutta Cup. Really short of attacking ideas. Hope they keep playing that way.

Ireland could win the six nations by beating England with a try bonus point.

The great thing is, if they achieve that, there still will be a huge motivation for the final round; possibility of a grand slam, possibility of maximum points, new record for longest winning streak in 6N, first back to back 6N grand slam, winning a grand slam in Ireland, winning a grand slam on the more difficult year with both England and France away, Triple crown, beating Scotland again possibly a record streak. Are there any other motivations?

By the way, it’s funny looking at the 6N table right now, Ireland have a huge points difference of 81 and only the 2 teams Ireland haven’t played yet are in 2nd and third on 6 and -4 points. The 3 teams Ireland have played have a sizeable negative points difference.
