What would be the conspiracy?

It's a process to increase organ donation.

What on earth is wrong with you? Why even potentially risk the life of a recipient, with nonsense like this?

Posts like this are dangerous and can grow like the antivax morons ideas and their absolute fake science basis.

Make it easy for what? It will back fire on people who need organs, and hopefully they bring in legislation that states anyone who isn't willing to donate can't receive any organs.

Then tell them, not us.

But you do want yours donated as you said earlier. Just changing your mind now not to make it easy for the government. You made your donation decision for a reason and I would assume that was to help others.

You're wrong. My left arm is like a pin cushion from giving blood donations. I got a call a few years back to see if I could give blood to help a new born that was AB+. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, I'll be happy out if my scraps make a difference to someone else. If you want to do something useful, go give blood.

Well they're just gonna be rotting at the point you die so personally speaking, I'm not gonna be that upset.

If they're that passionately opposed they can simply opt out. If they're so ill informed to not be aware of the system in place, that's their fault and nobody else's. And the reality is, most won't want to opt out.

More than likely indifferent, opt out systems just tend to work more effectively. As pointed out, multiple countries already have it in place and it's entirely uncontroversial.

I'd love to know what the conspiracy behind this might be that would sate the OPs thirst for controversy?

Even with the procession of kranks that have graced the CT forum over the years, this is the 1st time I can recall anyone rocking up and basically going re: subject, gimme a CT?🤷‍♂️

I've a bit of personal experience on the donor side of the equation. The 1st time it took me years to come to terms with my loss let alone the donation. The 2nd time, it was a salve to my family to know our loss wasn't completely in vain and the support services were far better too. The change in 16yrs was very much for the better.

Even with an opt-out system the capacity isn't available on the Island for more than 250/300 organ harvests per year. We can transplant far more organs than we can reasonably harvest.

The ODTI do great work, but their capacity is limited. The difference in pastoral care brought about since the ODTI commenced operating is to be commended.

The "conspiracy" here? I suppose moving the organ donor system to being opt-out might seem to infringe upon ones right to bodily autonomy? That said, the choice of not opting out, can be inferred as a positive consent.

But in practice? It's still very much within the choice of the family to proceed with donation or not. There is no mad rush by the hospital to harvest and no action taken without consulting next if kin.

In my very recent experience,yes. The family's choice still matters and is respected. A rough month over the summer spent in and around a busy ICU unit and talking to other families in similar life/death situations to my own family. Made that very clear to me, as well as our own discussions with the hospital staff and ODTI when my brother's time came.
