    Hi all

Trying to do some figuring out which is the best domestic upgrade option to supply a garage with welder, air compressor etc.

Currently the house has has 12Kva supply which won't be sufficient to power a welder in an adjacent garage etc.

3 phase is cost prohibitive, so I'm thinking of upgrading to a 20kva single phase supply to the house and subsequently bringing a cable out to the garage.

My question is, is such a supply (20kva) sufficient for the welder in the following link?

Is it OK to bring a supply from the house fuse board to a nearby garage to supply such a welder?

    Anything is possible,

your existing installation will need work , the mains cable will need changing along with the board , test whole house and certify, new earth rod outside too in 16sq cable ,

    what age is the house

That welder would need the guts of 10KVA, so 20KVA would seem fine. But it may end up quite expensive. The house might need quite an upgrade.

Depending on the amount of this work you are doing, a 20 kva diesel generator - at maybe €6k + vat might be worth considering, particularly if it was only a few hours a week.

House is about 3 years old.

What type of fuse board would be required? The board currently installed has din rail fixing so was hoping just the components could be changed

Would a single phase to 3 phase convertor work for you?

Board would need to be 16kva and above rated

100 amp main switch ,80amp busbar

and earth and neutral connections that can take a larger mains cable ,
