Arson attacks in city centre

What the hell is happening to the city? What the hell is happening to our country? I just hope these people are caught and not given some sort of bullshit suspended sentence.

I was walking through the city centre at 6pm last night. I passed a Fire Engine outside the Lidl on Corn Market street. Police sirens were going off on Grand Parade and a female garda ran past me on Paul Street.

The regular pro-Palestine marches/protests down there every weekend are ridiculous. 3 weekends ago the entire city centre was disrupted because of it - at the same time as the lights were out on the Kinsale Rd roundabout which was causing chaos (but explains why there were no Gardai out to manage the traffic - too busy watching this lot wave their flags).

The irony/history of what these people are supporting is apparently lost on them but the amount of leeway they seem to be getting is nonsense.

(and no I don't support Israel either - as far as I'm concerned they're both at fault and it's not our issue. We've enough here at home that should be warranting protests and marches).

So within the first 15 posts the following have been blamed, with no evidence whatsoever I might add:

• Migrants
• A group of scumbags
• Pro-Palestinian protesters

Anyone else?

At least the nutjobs behind the library protests are quiet lately. People have a right to protest peacefully but that doesn't give you the right to go setting fire to retail premises around the city. I'm sure the full facts about who was and what was behind this will emerge in due course.

You have to wonder at the ignorance of these people - particularly given the awful history of arson and fire Cork city went through.

I have no sympathy for them even if it is some sort of misguided “free Palestine” stunt.

According to someone on Cork Reddit it was Chelsea fans upset at losing the match. So we can add that to the list as well.🤣

They were in the library during the week hassling the librarians and were on Grand Parade on Saturday. Diverting garda resources.
