Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

With them both boring in from opposite sides would they cancel one another out or just pop the hooker right out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I'm not understanding the complexity of the scrum. I do notice that Porter is a frequent flyer on the turning in club. Whether it's a weakness for him or it it's his opposition turning him in, I fail to see any reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,586 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Porter needs to fix his technique and learn some subtlety when he cheats. His technique is awful and has been since he switched over. He only has himself to blame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Speaking of props and scrummaging. I can't recall Healy turning in? I'm completely at sea. I see Porter packing down and I cross my fingers and chant like a Grigorian monk!

Leinster fans, a poster claiming Ross Molony to Bath! Anyone hear this?

No, but it might be a tempting offer. He hit his peak 2 years ago and it just wasn't enough for a cap. He won't be better than 4th choice lock next season, Deeny and COT could start taking his minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

If he does leave I think he's a big loss. He's become like a piece of the furniture. Not to mention, he's not bad at rugby!

  • Registered Users Posts: 358 ✭✭El Vino

Out of interest who would you be happy to leave out of those who get URC minutes only? Squad size eventually has to become outsized and bloated, Leinster seem to be producing more players than retire each year so I guess a few departure are inevitable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,914 ✭✭✭Rigor Mortis

Be sad to Ross go, but it would make sense for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Ed Byrne! Martin Maloney, that's about it. I wouldn't begrudge Ross a move for playing time.

Michael's v Terenure was great viewing!

  • Posts: 0 ✭✭✭✭ Tobias Bewildered Bluebird

Would probably make sense for everyone at this point. He's been a super player for Leinster but we've seen at the sharp end of Europe he's a bit off the top guys in that position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,176 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

He is a very skilful lock but unfortunately a bit underpowered. Unfortunately being underpowered has been Leinster's Achilles heel at the top end on a few occasions.

He could be a very useful asset to a more power focused pack where his size is less of a factor

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭FrannoFan

I think we are starting to see the pinch of declining revenue that has hit English and Welsh clubs. I think the players that Farrell is interested in and first choice 15 players will be retained but it looks increasingly like the depth will either have to take pay cuts or move on.

Maloney as a 4th choice lock would be a hell of a luxury.

I think I read about Rory O’Loughlin that the money Leinster could offer was going to be derisory for a player of his calibre so rather than insult him just wished him well.

At least in Leinster the quality of the academy will soften the blow but we might not be putting out teams during the 6 nations packed with the same quality we did in the past

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Harry Byrne at 12 isn't something I was expecting. Big shuffle of positions in the backline. Would have expected Turner and Osborne in midfield.

    Strong pack all the same.

TOB is injured so shuffled it about.

Such a luxury to have a 2nd string backrow like that. Interesting to see how Osborne goes at 13

  • Registered Users Posts: 733 ✭✭✭durthacht

I imagine he'll be brilliant as he's such a multi talented player.

I'm surprised about Ross at fly half and Harry at centre as the last times they started together I thought it was the other way around. It must have worked pretty well in training, and maybe Harry is a better defender so might better suit Nienaber's defense.

Big opportunity for Clarkson to keep up his recent improvements - good luck to him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,010 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

13 is Osborne's primary position, no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,559 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

Didnt Harry play 12 a few times last season? or at least slotted in during some games

Turner on the wing? Wouldn't King be worth a punt? I am not liking HB at 12 either. Still, it's a good team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Just noticed that Clarkson is starting. They're poring as many minutes into him as possible. He's done well too. I wonder if Leo sees him as a viable 1st 23 player? There's still nothing to be heard on an import. Milne on the bench. Maybe... he's not leaving?

    Congratulations to JL on 100!

I have very high hopes for Tom Clarkson, he has looked comfortable at each step up

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,010 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

What would Leinster fans think of the following for a knockout game:

15-9, 1-8; Keenan, Ringrose, Henshaw, Frawley, Lowe, Byrne R, Gibson-Park, Porter, Kelleher, Furlong, Ryan, McCarthy, Doris, van der Flier, Conan

Reps: Kelleher, Healy, Alaalatoa, Jenkins, Baird, Connors, Deegan, Foley

Bench could be even more insane next year with Snyman, a new tighthead, and a more dynamic loosehead taking the 17 jersey from Healy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭Serbian

It's interesting how the general narrative has flipped on him and a really good reminder of how tighthead props in particular mature later than most other positions on the field.

I agree with you for what it's worth, and think he has really shown significant progress over the course of this season in particular.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,586 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Hate it. We don't need to chase a SA approach to the bench

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,513 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Kelleher replacing himself after 60 minutes is a game breaker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭Serbian

He played 12 three times, two seasons ago during Six Nations time. Ospreys (h), Lions (h) and Benetton (a), we won all three, although he went off injured after half an hour in the away game. This game is probably tougher than all three of those however, but he at least has some experience in the position.

I'm happy to say that Clarkson does look better. He's come on so much. Delighted for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,559 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

    Why?

It's great to have some influence of SA coaching for a different POV but no need to turn Leinster into a SA club

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I'm eager to get a gawk at Munster new lh prop tomorrow.. I bet Milne won't get a wink of sleep tonight. What a tough year for him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,588 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

Picking Harry Byrne at 12 is a win-win in Cullen's eyes, it looks to me. It allows him to keep more of his outhalves happy, and also stalls the development of genuine 12s (Osborne, Brownlee), thereby strengthening his case for yet another signing in the position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Leinster's RG Snyman is having a hilarious game. Bullying Zebre forwards, carrying one handed into contact and offloading in the same motion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,586 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Was there a particular reason Snyman isn't coming til next season, in comparison to players like Farrell joining their new clubs immediately?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,559 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

Snyman still has a contract with Munster, they would have to agree to let him go and Leinster would have to agree to take him

Are you refering to Owen Farrell, he is still with Sarries is he not?

  • Posts: 0 ✭✭✭✭ Tobias Bewildered Bluebird

Farrell isn't joining immediately, he's going in the summer. Finishing the session with Saracens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,586 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

My mistake, thought he had left already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

A day off and I ended up watching all 4 senior cup matches. 4 good teams left but, I think Blackrock might have too much strenght in depth!

Several really good prospects!!! The entire Rock backline and Angulo and the tight head.

St Mary's have Moynihan and Leane. Leane looks a super prospect.

Zaga have couple, I've forgotten the names.

And there's a lad, Gabriel, can't remember what team.

Killeen and Finn from Roscrea also.

    Great matches. We'll coached teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

    Good try.

Fast line speed in defence for a few phases to push Cardiff back. Then an even faster rush to block the kick and run 60 metres for the try.

Right through the middle again & looking like scoring 2nd try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

    Great finish from Deegan.

Leinster been very impressive the last 5 minutes. Charge down try followed by a 60m break from our own 22 after the restart.

  • Registered Users Posts: 733 ✭✭✭durthacht

Line breaks from Thomas Clarkson and Ross Byrne so far - not often we see that from either!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Playing some good stuff, but don't have the points on the board to show for it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,230 ✭✭✭A-Train

Boyle off injured, not great. Cardiff score.

Leinster lost their way after a good start. Need to get back into this or they will lose this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Larmour got what he deserved there. Awful kick to Cardiff and a terrible kick chase allowed Cardiff through.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,230 ✭✭✭A-Train

Absolutely brutal from Larmour, terrible kick and has to give away the yellow card to save a certain try.

Leinster on the racks here, need half time asap. Shocking performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Carré looked like he knocked that on.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,876 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    Jaysus we're poor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Need a big second half. Fixtures in the league are getting tougher and we've a South African tour coming up. Standard of play across the board has gone up so we're not cantering to a game playoff like years past.
