What good is condemnation. Its just words. You hear it after every event and it seems to appease most. Words are just words, action is the only thing that matters. I'd rather hear nothing from politicians but find out 3 months later that a law was passed that anyone carrying a knife would automatically get 3 yrs and anyone that brandishes a knife would get 10.

What has that got to do with a traveller feud in roscommon?

    You're not codding anyone.

At least nobody's feelings were hurt.

Machete attacks are a normal part of life and display Irelands vibrant and diverse mix of social enrichment.

Thank God we can enjoy these type of displays of culture and heritage without any direct descriptions of those involved and their enthicity.

Let blood fueds play out naturally without outside interference as they should.

    Glazers Out!

    From the article.

"The video captured three masked men brandishing machetes and slash hooks rampaging through the boxing arena, during an U-14 tournament, in Castlerea on Friday night."

    Bloody scumbags.

"Gardaí suspect that members of a rival feuding family learned of his plans and followed him to the event."

    Well, surprise surprise.

"Up to four men, at least three of them masked, launched a savage attack on the man just as two young boxers were about to enter the ring.

Gardaí are examining the video recording and have appealed to the public for any sightings of the vehicle – a silver or white Audi A4 - the attackers are suspected of travelling in.

Detectives are gathering local intelligence of the feud, which is ongoing between two families, and sources said investigators are hopeful of being able to draw up names of likely suspects."

Shouldn't be too difficult for the guards.

"The shocking incident was captured on a mobile phone that was originally focused on the boxing ring. The camera swung away to the back of the hall after people could hear a rumpus."

Hardly "shocking" these days, unless you live under a rock.

It is understood that, shortly before, four masked men had barged in and one of them immediately went for the main target.

Footage from the boxing event in Castlerea where a man was attacked by men armed with slash hooks and machetes.

The recording showed the victim protecting himself with a chair from the first attacker, who had a scarf or snood partially covering his face, and was striking blows with a long-blade machete.

A second, older man, was also trying to assist him with his chair while other men and women fled the area.

The target of the attack ran down the arena but was pursued by the first attacker, causing shocked fans, onlookers and competitors to jump out of the way.

A second masked attacker, wielding a long slash hook, ran towards the man and tried to strike him but stumbled at a barrier.

The target stopped at the exit and turned to protect himself with his chair from further assault from the machete-wielding attacker.

This attacker then ran away and into the second attacker. The second attacker then proceeded to launch an assault with a long slash hook on the target.

A woman is heard on the recording screaming desperately during the shocking episode, which lasted only around 40 seconds, and a third attacker, also masked, and carrying a long slash hook, came into the picture.

The three men turned and ran out a separate exit as onlookers and officials breathed relief.

"“These boxing clubs are trying to keep kids on the straight and narrow, to show restraint and to keep it in the ring, and you have adults then attacking other adults with bladed weapons, in front of other people, including smaller kids – it’s shocking, and bizarre,” a garda source said."

It's only bizarre to normal people, to these lads this is how they live, not a **** given.

10-15 years ago I would have disagreed with you, but as I have gotten older and left the sh*thole I grew up in, I would say that in large parts of Dublin crime and criminal behaviour is gone from tolerated and accepted to trivialized and celebrated, and if you want to disagree with me please explain why it's now common for the main street of towns across dublin to be shut down in broad daylight by scrambler funerals.

    Forced hard labour.

    Chain gangs.

Get out of line, crack of a shovel.

They don't give a shyte about sentences, they aren't afraid of the guards, as the guards hands are tied and can't do anything useful against them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,263 ✭✭✭Gusser09

    +1

Hard hard labour. Not playstations, tvs in cells, open access to drugs and 3 square meals a day and a tuck shop.

Work their good years out of them so when they get out they havent the energy to shite bag.

Anyway that wont happen. More of the same.

I already suggested it. 3yrs for carrying a knife or offensive weapon such as machete or slash hook. 10yrs for brandishing the weapon, if you're an Irish citizen. If you're not, you get deported. Random stop and search of well known scrotes. Remove them from society.

All this shìte of its more expensive to jail them, is it fcuk. How much does it cost in garda time, hospital time, court time, social welfare, stolen property etc plus they're out creating future scrotes which in itself is a cost. It must cost multiple millions to bring just one one of these shìts through their life cycle.

The prison industrial complex in the United States, lets give it a go. Lots of money in it for prisons to be built and staffed, and then judicial reform in regards to sentencing. A 3 strikes rule would give society a break from a lot of really scummy people.

Boxing seems to attract this kind of behavior for some reason.

Boxing from top to bottom is steeped in crime, there's absolutely no separation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,983 ✭✭✭Lewis_Benson

    This.

Add to it a crew of armed guards patrolling the well known scummy areas.

What has Pavee Point got to do with a traveller feud in roscommon?

    You're not codding anyone.

How's it working out for them in the United States?

We know it's making huge money for those behind the prison industry, and for the judges they have in their pockets to ensure a steady stream of valuable inmates.

But for society at large, in terms of solving and preventing ongoing criminality?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,939 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

Surely you're not suggesting that this kind of behaviour is widespread and not particularly focused on the Traveller community?

Our justice system has essentially told them to do precisely what you've outlined here.

It's not society's responsibility to "civilise" people, they aren't some uncontacted tribe in the deepest rain forest, they live amongst everyone else and make choices of their own.

This is the culture they choose to perpetuate for themselves by themselves and questioning it is now not deemed to be fair.

This is only going to get worse as time goes on, but at least their feelings won't be hurt.

    Glazers Out!

Bar sending teachers out to the homes of traveller kids ( too expensive) , what exactly can be done to dissuade travellers from seeking resolution to issues with violence?

They don't seem to mind prison as they most likely aren't lonely while inside as so many of their relatives are inside with them .

Certainly, pavee point are to be roundly condemned as well.

The law has no respect for itself, the Guards know that they will be beaten out of it if they take on the traveller gangs and society.

  • Registered Users Posts: 930 ✭✭✭gym_imposter

Pavee point are irrelevant to the vast majority of travellers in the same way the national women's council are irrelevant to the vast majority of women

Career NGO jockeys are in the business of earning salaries

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,983 ✭✭✭Lewis_Benson

Exactly. Most of these scummrrs wouldn't even know what pavee point is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,939 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

I'd have thought most of us who work are in the business of earning salaries.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,263 ✭✭✭Gusser09

They jump in screaming against perceived wrong doings against the travellers by the settled community. Yet are stoney silent when travellers endanger lives with machetes and slash hooks.

    Hypocrits.

You may as well be asking how the space program is doing, how can you possibly compare a country like the United States to us, on what metrics, how do we align on anything? Did you think before posting that or was it just a flash of "shur the americans have problems so we'd have the same problems".

    That's exactly what I'm suggesting.

Since that halfwit Enda Kenny gave them status as a separate race they know they are above the law . Behave obnoxiously everywhere they go and play the race card when anyone says anything. Decent law abiding people don’t want to be near them but businesses or clubs who try to keep them out get sued .
