    What a goal from Corbett

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Great catch from O'Callaghan from the kick out, madness to concede a penalty straight after

We lead 2-12 to 3-5 after 60 min

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭zetecescort

much better team in the 2nd half, 2-15 to 3-9 FT

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Fair dues to the team, they really responded well in the second half and played very well.

When they play more direct, they get the scores.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

We were six points up at one stage and it was a shame we didn't go on and really bury Kildare at that point.

Still though that was a much improved second half and we got a crucial win. One more win should see us safe i think.

Fine win for the footballers. We badly needed that.

But that Kildare number 14 - how did the ref allow him to play the game basically with half the gumshield outside his mouth. Strange.

hopefully some positive news. lack of match practice before championship a worry though

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,143 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Dont think he walked and apparently he won't be only one who be leaving. Another player in trouble too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭Corcaigh84

I really hope it's not the signs of an unsettled camp. If it's a case of Ryan putting the foot down with underperforming players, or fellas not having the right attitude, then maybe it could end up as a positive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Whoever wants to leave then just let them leave. We do have a lot of all Ireland winning replacements from the u20's to bring through.

As you say hopefully this is Ryan just calling out the slackers, and demanding total effort and commitment from here onwards.

Apparently a few players had the audacity to talk up against the standard of the training/coaching and were pretty much "disciplined". No one dropped as such but giving a weekend off vs. Waterford. It's very worrying to say the least!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

It's hard enough to win an all Ireland even when everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. It's next to impossible though if you have a situation where the players and management are at odds with each other. I would be seriously worried though if it's a case of the training being crap, and the set up being bit of a jokeshop in general. I wouldn't mind so much if it's a case of some players having an unprofessional/sloppy attitude, and the management having to crack the whip as such.

CIara O'Sullivan has retired from Inter county football. She had a great career and while it's sad to see her retire, she gave everything to Cork football.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Fantastic player, had a lot of years without a break with Mourneabbey being so successful too. Wear and tear unfortunately taking it's toll

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Sadly, CIaras sister Doireann is also retiring.

She also had a great career with Cork!

I forgot to post this earlier but Cork are playing Tipp right now in Camogie. Its 20 mins gone in second half and Cork up by 3 points as I type.

    It's live on Camogie youtube

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Tipp with 2-1 in the final minutes to win, 2-10 to 1-10

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭The White Feather

What a game! TIpp got 2 goals and won it! Exciting end!

Really though the Pairc Ui Rimn pitch was dreadful. Cork couldn't raise the ball numerous times and the tiop would come in to make it a scrap on the ground. Both goals were a consequence of this. Tipp really fought well but Corks game couldn't get going with the pitch.

You could see Cork were better but things broke down with the pitch. One of those frustrating days for the Girls.

Bad loss for Cork given the Tipp girls are all rushing off now to Cait Devane's wedding. They had no interest in that match, and the moving of it to midday was to squeeze it in.

Offay's pitch is a shambles, but we're dealing with them easily enough first half. Deccie getting some great scores from long range, and Alan Connolly is simply unmarkable

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭zetecescort

bit of a challenge game feel to it, keep our focus and we'll win handy enough. 2-12 to 0-7 HT

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Its perfect for Alan Connolly as you could see he was very rusty at the start but then got going. If we were playing someone better he wouldn't get so many chances so this is perfect to get him up to speed. 2 goals already and could have one or 2 more.

Pitch is shocking alright. I almost forgot about Dalton so its great to see him back. Jack O'Connor really doing well also.

Still a few things to be ironed out such as hospital passes putting us in trouble. Against teams in Munster we would be punished . A lot of our troubles seem to come from our mistakes.

We just need to push on from here and keep the scoreboard ticking in second half.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Great to see Connolly, Dalton, O'Mahoney and Fitzgibbon back on the pitch, not much else to learn from this

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭Corcaigh84

Fitzy back with a goal and smiling, delighted for him. Hayes going straight for goals too since he's come on which is great to see and bagged one himself. Let's hope we keep the goal hunger up for the Munster championship.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Hayes and Fitzgibbon looked great when they came on. Really added to the team and thats what you want from subs. Some great performances all rpund and what I am glad to see is that we finished the game well which we did last year. Just once we cut out no scoring periods we will be up there this year. Also pleasing was the tracking and tackling even when the game was over. The hunger is there as well for goals.

In saying all that, it was only Offaly. I thought they would have more about them at home but maybe I thought they were further along than what they are. I didn't even think Screeney was playing until he was fouled by Tim O'Mahony. I would even suggest it wasn't a foul as he just crumpled in a heap. Not just him but the whole Offaly team need Strength and Conditioning straight away. All too easily muscled out of it. I would hope they have pin pointed this already as this takes time and would only see results next year.

A word about the ref. He was giving cards out like confetti. One where Dalton was running out with the ball and Offaly player tries to flick it away but nicks his hand. Obviously a free but not a yellow. Unless the guy did it again then yes. I suppose he is going by the rules but just can lead to red cards for small mistimed things. Now if its to the head, You would have to say yes. Then another time where Tim O'Mahony was deemed to be charging out. Bit harsh but ok its a free. He gets a yellow card though? Just seemed too fussy with yellows all the time. I say this watching all matches. Yellows should be kept for bad offences in my opinion. Ok, sorry for ranting!!

Still good to see us win and win well. Getting goals is great to see as scoring goals is a great habit to have! The variety of scorers is great to see. Still waiting to see Ben Cunningham so hopefully he is recovered from injury soon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭zetecescort

With the cards they'll give them for a 3rd or 4th foul, regardless of how soft it might look

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,880 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Fine win. They left quite a few goals behind them I think, which is nice to say having scored 5.

    Offaly were awful altogether.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Seadin

Let's not get carried away lads, it's only Offaly no disrespect but we need to judge ourselves against the top tier teams. We will see how they do next day out.

Speaking to few offaly people they were saying that it's young team but that's as easy as it gets.

Great win all same but bigger to come.
