I think part of it was also the lacklustre reaction to Kang due to Quantumania. Plus the one excuse they would have had to recast him was that he was a Variant and all the other Kangs look different, however they straight up showed us in the Quantumania post credits scene that all the Kangs look like Jonathan Majors.

They could have just recast and basically said nothing, but I think it came down to "What's the point?". His arrival in Quantumania was a bit of a dud (even though he was probably the best part of the movie), and Majors would be forever linked to the role due to how he left compared to recasting Terrance Howard and Ed Norton very early in the MCU, or Harrison Ford taking over as Thunderbolt Ross because of William Hurt's health. I'd say Marvel just figured to Kang stuff wasn't working and would be too much hassle to try and fix, and they have to course-correct anyway due to the poor performance of films and shows, so may as well just get rid of Kang altogether.

Yeah but I'm surprised that he's not in D&W given that the three of them are friends

Reynolds can't drag his whole phonebook in tbf. Theres aready rumors (but theres rumors of every comic character that ever existed appearing) Channing Tatum will finally be Gambit on screen in a brief moment as will Chris Evans as both Captain America and Human Torch.

And if Taylor Swift is ever going to be Dazzler this'll be it.

Personally, I'd rather they get through all the multiverse stuff, Kang included, in this saga and then somehow box it off so we're back to one universe to focus on. People are going to get sick of it, if they aren't already. I was never a fan of them going the multiverse route for a saga so it might just be me.

MoM was impacted significantly by COVID, it was supposed to be before NWH. Wanda was always going to be the big bad in it so it is tricky to fit Kang in.

Kang has already received significantly more screen time than Thanos ever did before the last movies of the last Saga. The issue isnt the amount of screen time for him, it just needed to be done better. I do get why they tried to take a different approach to bringing him in, rather than just hearing about Thanos and post credit scenes.

Reason why removing Kang makes sense is because he is now tainted. The actor's rep being the smaller part of it, the bigger one being tied to the negative audience reaction to Quantumania. Given the challenges they're facing, it is a risk to tie the main event of the saga to something that hasn't succeeded. With the pushback of the movies, if there is an easy exit via rewrite then it makes sense to take it.

Is this movie ever going to get made.

Just make a blood soaked movie with the half man half vampire killing vampires with a sword and making smart alec quips it's not rocket science.

Aaron Pierre Says He’s Not Attached to Marvel’s ‘Blade’: ‘As the Project Evolved, I’m No Longer Part of That’

Aaron Pierre is no longer attached to Marvel‘s upcoming “Blade” film, Variety has learned.

The actor revealed the update to Variety on the red carpet for the 55th NAACP Image Awards.

“Early on, there were conversations,” Pierre said of his involvement. “As the project evolved, I’m no longer part of that — attached.”

Pierre was set to star alongside Mahershala Ali, who plays the vampire hunter originally brought to life by Wesley Snipes. Pierre’s role remained undisclosed, although it was reported that he was chosen for the part after an expansive and thorough casting process. Marvel has only officially announced Ali’s casting as the eponymous vampire slayer.

Pierre is far from the first person to exit the Marvel film, which has had a fraught development process. Since July 2021, multiple directors and writers have been attached. Bassam Tariq was originally slated to direct, with Stacy Osei-Kuffour penning the script, who exited two months before production was set to commence. Yann Demange then came on board as director and Michael Green was hired as screenwriter. Variety reported that at least five writers have been attached to the movie.....

Given how apparently teed off Mahershala Ali has been about the project, how long before he decides he has had enough?

I'd not be surprised if he has given up by now.

Hints from Marvel's head of streaming, television & animation Brad Winderbaum that Agents of Shield maybe the next series to be brought back into the fold.

"We're doing that right now," Winderbaum said when asked if any other fan-favorite series might be revived. "We're in production on Daredevil: Born Again in New York, they're shooting as we speak – I'm seeing text messages come up from set. That's probably the next show that is going to kind of revisit and revive a really strong, and one of my favorite pockets of our universe and our fandom. And... you never know, is the answer," he added when asked about Agents of SHIELD.

would love to see an alt-timeline SWORD with Daisy heading it up - even for just the faint hope of her being brought into the main cannon, with Mac as well.

Two great characters they've just left by the side.

More Hailey atwell on screen and I'm sold.

Really wish we got a proper Captain Carter tbh

Wouldn't consider myself a hardline nationalist but the thought of that Union Jack shield flying here, there and everywhere doesn't hold much appeal to me to be honest. I imagine several international markets like Argentina might be similar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,398 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

The American Star (and Blue/Red/White) hasn't had that issue so I don't see why it would be an issue for Captain Carter?

Plus, the UK could probably do with someone representing that flag that actually likes humans and is about saving people and doing good; not hatred and bigotry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,316 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Well in the next Captain America movie they're introducing an Israeli superhero who in the comics was a member of the IDF and was a Mossad agent, so in terms of international relations I'd say that's going to be far more jarring to a lot of people than a shield with the British flag on it.

Oh yikes, I hadn't realised that; can't think of who that might be from the comics, but I wonder are Marvel contemplating any reshoots? I know pro-Israel positions are still quite strong in America but there has been a distinct and growing animosity worldwide - and even among liberals in America itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,316 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Her name is Sabra. Not a huge or even well-known character in the comics by any stretch (I'd never heard of her until her name popped up during filming reports etc), but I think since they're undergoing a lot of reshoots anyway, they'll likely change/edit a few things. Hard to see how though considering her Israeli identity is such a core part of the character. Wikipedia just says "In response to criticism from Palestinians and supporters about the decision to include the character, Marvel Studios stated that they were going to take a new approach to the character."

The actress playing her also served in the IDF voluntarily even though she was considered exempt from mandatory conscription on medical grounds. So yeah.... even if they change the character in the film a bit, the press tour, depending on what happens between now and then, might be rough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,398 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

An Isreali hero who was in the IDF and formr Mossad.

Could be they became disillussioned with their goverments behaviour and have struck out on their own... Like Captain America did in the comics, as Nomad.

Ha: so a mixture of ADR and maybe a hasty scene of Sabra sharing an ice-cream with some Palestinian children? Though like @Mitch Connor they could do similar to what they did with Cap. and make her a disillusioned soldier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,316 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Given the actress herself was in the IDF, I can't imagine she'd agree to do reshoots saying she's now disillusioned by the Israeli government and left the country.

I'd say they'll just go the simpler route of "She's not Israeli, she's just Jewish and worked for the US government". Just not mention it at all really.

Hopefully that rumour about Evan’s isn’t true.

Stark, Romanoff and Rogers are dead shouldn’t be brought back - especially for cameos.

I would also like the storytelling to return to one universe.

Alternate reality stories can be fun but a whole movie franchise of them is too much.

It might have been better for the phase to just work on the new characters being introduced.

Marvel and Disney have fill distribution rights to The Hulk now don’t they? I really wish they’d do a new solo movie. Maybe set during his fugitive years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Xofpod

Read an interview with Ruffalo talking about how unlikely a Hulk solo movie is. Said it's so expensive effects-wise for every minute the Hulk is on-screen so Marvel isn't too keen on the project. He's up for it though....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,937 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Sebastian Stan & Daniel Bruhl not returning for Captain America 4 according to Mackie.

And a second season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier doesn't look like it will happen.

The film is also to under go extensive reshoots from May to August.

Planned or sudden, I wonder. I know the MCU films reshoot as a reflex but given what we have spoken of re. the Israeli character it might be a rejig away from her history.

Mind you, Hollywood has been fairly antagonistic towards Palestinian or even pacifistic voices, so I'd be surprised they were being this conscientious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,937 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Reshoots were announced at the end of last year after bad test screenings, So I guess now that they don't start till May it gives them time to feel the climate to current events and rewrite the rewrites over the next few weeks if they feel those events will hurt them.

i had assumed Bucky was in it but this is good news as it means More time devoted to Wilson and new characters.

I loved the series but not that they turned Zemo into someone more lighthearted. The serious Civil War Zemo was one of the best villains of the movies and his motivations had me question the whole superhero thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,256 ✭✭✭Spon Farmer

I think Disney and Marvel and their stars have been quiet on that topic and maybe Disney doesn’t want to be seen as taking a side as it would affect box office in some places.

Florence giving a quick look around the back of Thunderbolts.

Nothing really here apart from her new outfit.

Oh and for some reason it is now called "Thunderbolts*". Not sure what the * means

To be honest, I thought that series was just finding its feet and finished far stronger than it started.

He would need to be a brilliant screen fighter for any reboot though

With the universe kinda swilling around a little flat and lifeless, it really could do with a directorial shot in the arm - especially now that James Gunn is gone.

Actually thought MoM was one of the rare highlights of MCUs recent slew of films. Decent RT and Audience scores, not to mention it grossed almost a billion. That’s a win in my book.

There’s a bit of a creative void left now that James Gunn is gone. It’s a no brainer.for me.

My understanding of the story is that these characters will be folded into the main MCU by the end of the film, so there is no 'real' version to come so to speak. This is the MCU's Silver Surfer, which is certainly a choice to make.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭Norrie Rugger Head

Can't see her pulling off the broken, tortured, and traumatised version most know, given what I've seen if her, but she is talented so who knows.

Apparently she's Shalla-Bal too so very strange decision given character history.

I guess the F4 have slipped out of general public consciousness enough for it to be rewritten

I don't think that film's flaws can be put at Raimi's feet though; indeed I think the ways the film worked at all are entirely because of Raimi's craft. It was also a COVID production and you could really tell in places how much things were chopped or limited to suit. Bringing back someone like Sam Raimi could be precisely the creative **** in the arm the franchise needs.

Great casting for a film I could care less about. She has been quite the straight arrow performances wise so I guess this Silver Surfer won't be jolly or wisecracking at all. I wonder given how irrelevant F4 has become if the usual types even curled a lip at this announcement.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,270 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

To take a positive from it, it should be an interesting dynamic in our modern age to have a woman facilitating Galactus in destroying worlds. It offers something different as well for the team to interact with.

I can see the reasoning behind it, but it's the type of move you'd make when you're at your peak, rather than tumbling down the mountain.

I only know her from Inventing Anna on Netflix, where she was completely insufferable in the role, playing a completely insufferable person. I've already been trying to wipe that show from my mind, will have to try harder now in order to give her a fair shot as Silver Surfer.

As for Raimi, there were definitely no issues with his directing of MoM (if anything it helped save the film), but the issues were more down to the writing. If they got him in earlier for the likes of Secret Wars with a decent writer and they could work together from the start, he could be a great choice for it. At the very least, working with Marvel on MoM obviously wasn't a bad experience for him.
