No he will be up in court here, it's his responsibility to come back for it. There'll be a warrant for his arrest if he doesn't fulfil his legal obligations, doesnt matter if he didn't plan to come back or not.

I don't know if it happens in reality but he could be arrested on arrival into the country next time if there's a warrant for him

The car stays where the offence was detected . This is presuming that leaving it there wouldn’t be a hazard to other road users in which case it would be moved by Gardai to someplace safer. It would not be impounded for four days ( approx ) as per your opening post .

There would be nothing legally to prevent driver from driving it again after he resumed being under the limit . If he was barely over it at the time the sample was taken, he could be back under it shortly afterwards.

A driving ban in Ireland will be recognised in the UK (and vice versa).

Chances are that if it could be dealt with by a fixed penalty notice and disqualification, ignoring that and subsequently not turning up in court will result in a higher penalty (both the fine and the disqualification) than dealing with it as early in the process as possible.

I don't know how good the information flow is between Irish and UK authorities but once disqualified here there is the possibility he could be flagged by ANPR and pulled over in the UK for driving without a licence.

I wonder if it's a culture thing, the drink driving limits are different in the Republic of Ireland (50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood) compared to England, Wales and Northern Ireland (80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood). In NI for example,the mentality is it's acceptable to have one drink and drive.

Imagine implying that someone was drink driving when they clearly were not and totally ignoring atrocious language on a public forum that you are supposed to moderate.

The reciprocal agreement isn’t a claim, it exists.

Is the system perfect? No, of course not. None is. People skip the country for years or forever for much more serious offences.

But the system is there and it has prevented disqualified drivers obtaining licences both jurisdictions in the past. And I’m sure there are many other benefits.
