    The PIRAs campaign was an effort to fight back against attack from British armed forces/loyalists. The British side were trying to force Nationalists to remain as part of the uk. So of course it was justified. Just like the Ukrainian effort to fight back against Russia.

    There was nothing justified about McAuley's actions though. He should have been expelled and disowned.

    By the same argument, the murders of Nick Spanos and Stephen Melrose (Australian tourists in The Netherlands); and those of Heidi Hazell (German wife of a serving soldier) and Islania Niurati (a 6 month old baby murdered along with her father who was a serving soldier) were 'justified'.

    I'm out of here. The subject of this thread is dead, hopefully he died a death deserving of his life.

    There's a difference between a campaign being justified and all acts within that campaign being justified. A clear example is with the case in this thread. The killing of Jerry McCabe wasn't justified but the killing of British/loyalist attackers was justified. The PIRAs fight in the war is similar in the position Ukraine find themselves in now.

    But anyway, no-one is shedding many tears for McAuley's death.

    Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

    Over 10,000 civilians have been killed in that war so far. We don't know the full breakdown but it's likely that the Ukrainian side have killed civilians including children. Does this mean we should denounce the Ukraine war effort and call them terrorists?

    There really was a large amount of psychopaths born in that era. Macauley, Dessie O’Hare, Lenny Murphy, Billy Wright, Johnny Adair etc. Men who took enormous pleasure in the taking of life.
