Humans and wolves couldn't live together in Ireland when the population was approx 4 million (1781 estimate, last wolf was killed in 1786). The population of the island is now 7 million. Why do people think we'll be able to co-habitate now?

Don't think its a matter of human population - cos wolves have returned to the likes of Holland and Belgium(it was English Planters who focused on wiping them and their habitat out here), more a matter of attitudes to wildlife and farming practices(sheep husbandry in particular) in this country, which is why it would be impractical as the article states to bring them back any time soon

It's an utterly ridiculous Greenik fever dream. One pack needs to be healthy in a range the size of Connaught. Nor will they hunt down deer, but will take the next easiest prey.IE domestic cattle, sheep and horses. Ask Ursula Van Der Lyen how well her family pet horse, Dolly, fared in a wolf attack in Northern Germany three years ago on her family's farm. Nor does this perpetuated myth of "wolves don't attack humans" A quick Google reveals there have been at least 3 wolf attacks in the EU since 2020.If we can't sort out packs of domestic dogs running amuck in flocks of lambling ewes every season. What will a pack of apex predators do to your flock or herd? "It's all fun and games until someone's eye is poked out" was an adage we grew up with. Will the rewilders and Greeniks be held responsible and willing to cough up compensation for damaged herds? Trying to put an apex predator back into a country where it was over 350 years ago that has changed from a predominately rainforested woodland to now open pasture and tillage with timber crop plantations is utter lunacy.
