It’s not a contradiction, no immediate rush for EP as it’s sold out since October and has sold out/sold a ton on the loyalty/pre Christmas release for years.

If you have a reading and Leeds that need time to sell tickets your priority is releasing that line up as soon as possible, preferably pre Christmas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,759 ✭✭✭Fanirish

It’s not nonsensical. Like any business they need to prioritise the limited resources of time and staff. As EP is sold out this puts it on the back burner.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,008 ✭✭✭Wooderson

It's only nonsensical if all you think about is promoters viewpoint and what's best for them. Belvin is only in the place he is due to fan support here. Not a one of us would shed a tear if/when EP goes the way of Oxegen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,710 ✭✭✭Stillill42

Of course it's nonsense. What has one thing to do with the other? Release a line up of already finalised acts into the ether. No campaigns, no advertising, nothing else needed. Does the very existence of an EP lineup endanger the rest of the Summer's entertainment?? It's sold out on the spot for years now, that hasn't stopped them releasing the line up in March.

I really look forward to Melvin retiring and for the horsesh1t that defines this festival to come to swift end.

You've posted suggestions which then change over time, nothing wrong with that but when you state as per the example of QOTSA below on multiple occasions below, then you can understand why people do get ratty and tired of it esp because we're all just faceless entities in the ether, there's no bona fides or any detail as to what your involvement is in the industry (if any, but I'm pretty sure you'd mentioned being at a launch party which literally no one outside PR, press or related industries would have access to).

Note : this was built up over the year, for sh1ts and giggles to see how accurate your guesses are.

Hozier,Picture this, RHCP and Dua Lipa make sense to me.

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121279299/#Comment_121279299
Dua lipa, hozier, Sam smith would be realistic headliners imo. Sam smith just announced for august festival in Denmark.
hozier will have to finish up new album tour next year with a big show, EP would make sense.

    Liam Gallagher, Calvin Harris

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121402703/#Comment_121402703
Nas, Ezra collective also probably likely

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121434267/#Comment_121434267
Would say the prodigy likely for EP as late night electronic act

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121440993/#Comment_121440993
    gallagher and kasabian

    On Gallagher again:
    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121455901/#Comment_121455901
His 3 arena shows sold out instantly.
    Limerick will do the business.
if there was a cork show EP would be overkill but nothing announced yet for cork

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121472306/#Comment_121472306
    Maneskin likely

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121573035/#Comment_121573035
Noah kahan will be an EP headliner

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121573125/#Comment_121573125
Catfish and the bottle men, lana del Rey, Gerry cinnamon all EP bound as well (apparently)

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121594830/#Comment_121594830
Would expect JMAC at EP, slowdive are entertaining summer festival offers but as EP was disaster last time they might take other offers

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121630851/#Comment_121630851
From coachella line up, Peggy gou is very likely for EP as Main stage dance headliner

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121642172/#Comment_121642172
Queens of the Stone Age for the Sunday apparently

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121677112/#Comment_121677112
Nas will probably fill in the old school hip hop act for EP this year

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121681061/#Comment_121681061
Fontaines and Bothy are very very unlikely.

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121693965/#Comment_121693965
Field day week after EP announced. Reckon a few will be appearing, pinkpantheress, yves Tumor, skin on skin and kettama very likely I would say

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121693908/#Comment_121693908
A certain Dublin band named after a pizza spot will actually be playing EP. Only summer show plans not happening. Would suspect main stage sub headliner.

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121699126/#Comment_121699126
Would say Inhaler, sleaford mods, skrillex, Peggy gou all good shouts for EP

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121699412/#Comment_121699412
Wet leg probably a good shout for EP

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121706566/#Comment_121706566
Could see the top of line up being a combination of:
lana, noah kahan, Sam smith, Peggy gou , Fontaines, inhaler, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Skrillex, Gerry cinnamon and possibly Queens of Stone Age....

    On Gallagher again:
    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/121707288/#Comment_121707288
Honestly doubt it now that he is doing Thomond park in July (which isn’t selling).
EP would slow those sales down

The Damned & Robyn Hitchcock would also be very welcome.

What makes you think he'll retire or that the organisation that he's built wouldn't continue in the same winning manner?

(what ever else you think of the beast they've built, it sells out instantly, is commercially stable and is the dominating festival on the island, why would they **** with that?).

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,646 ✭✭✭Seathrun66

Foals have no dates for 2024. Anyone aware of whether that’s likely to change or they in the recording studio and laying low for a while?

And @Fanirish come and say hello to us at EP. We may come across as an occasionally grumpy crew but I’ve met 15-20 of the posters here (and some partners) and we’re actually a very mellow bunch. Even more so with beer and good tunes.

With the new dates is the “subject to license” part water tight?

press releases have to be written, launch party organised, media coverage arranged, finalisation of festival artwork and poster including agreeing placement of artists on the line up, website updated, invitations sent to sponsors and guests, coordination with marketing teams of the sponsors and their marketing campaigns. Scheduling of line up release with agents etc. the list goes on of admin work for EP line up announcement.

EP line up doesn’t endanger rest of summer entertainment, but same teams in festival republic/mcd are working on those other things so only so many hours in a day. So things can move around a bit and sure proper line up wasn’t until late April last year so there is precedent now.

I’ve speculated on a bunch of artists who are touring next summer, a lot in august. I qualified that most of those are suggestions and some have subsequently announced big summer shows or announced for other festivals like ATN.
I’ve also said ones that are deffo playing like Fontaines, Noah kahan, Hannah Laing and kneecap.

Let's just agree to disagree, buddy. We'll chat again when we've some music to discuss. You recommended Moin to me before EOTR so I KNOW you've interesting **** to say about music.

Cringe launch events, manipulation of media messaging regarding (pissweak) line up, huge influencer culture, overblown corporate/sponsorship involvement, beer policy, security policy, degradation of what has made festival standout - other voices/b&s/mindfield etc.

Much of that sort of stuff (sponsor invites, etc) is peripheral as is a cosy launch party. Most can be done with cut-and past emails for the previous year and can also be taken care of in the ‘quiet season’ in mid and late Winter. No such paraphernalia was required for the December announcement where the biggest acts were made known and no reason not to do that regularly.

No promoter I’ve known has ever had such a struggle with getting a lineup out. I had pals working with Vince Power when he was at his busiest in the late 80s and 90s and they had to coordinate Reading, Phoenix, the Fleadh, Glasto and others. They didn’t struggle like this. I’m sorry man but that’s pretty much horseshit. There’s not an enormous amount of work in what you describe as it’ll have been worked on since August/September 2023. I don’t mind the delayed announcement. I am, however, resistant to the nonsensical justification.

they nearly went tits up under the old regime, it is not going to change to some fantasy non commercial bs setup.

On a musical note went to Karma Police tonight. They were brilliant and would be a great addition to Salty or Survivor stage. In Whelan's June and defo going to see them again. The musicianship was class.

Yep 2012 was the year I remember it struggling.
