Israeli Exceptionalism

Israel bombed the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1st, killing 16 people. On the same day Israel killed 7 aid workers from the World Central Kitchen, in three separate attacks.
The bombing of a country Israel is not at war with, in a country they are not at war with has not been condemned by the US, EU or UK.

Israel will participate in both the Eurovision and Olympic Games.

Could any other country bomb a foreign consulate in another country without reproach from the west?

The EU did condemn the Israeli airstrike in Damascus.

Israel and Syria have been at a de facto state of war for decades.

The conspiracy theorist in me would say they are courting a bit of aggression from Iran since they were losing the support of the US. Now the US are right back their corner.

Agreed, it's the only way Netanyahu stays in power. Plus, the clock is ticking for ISR in the event Trump becomes Predident again.

Iran has been directing attacks against Israel for decades.

One of the Generals killed had a seat at the top table of Hezbollah, the other's involved were there because of their directing roles in organizing attacks in neighborhood countries and against Israel.

It was a great success and should be treated as such.

Iran is the great hope for many, they are active in targeting Jews, they hang gays and we all know about the beating and murder of women for not towing the line.

I Understand why you and many of the other pro Palestinian jihad people are angered by this.

Israeli society views itself as having worth and their own lives as being worth defending. It's completely opposite to much of modern European thought. I would say that Iran feels the same .

Israel has been directing attacks against Iran, Syria and Lebanon for decades. Are they free to bomb Israeli consulates? Is that the kind of action you support?

Thank god by the 70s and 80s the western world had largely moved on from anti-irish racism and the Brits couldn't just bomb the **** out of Dublin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,005 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

They will continue to target Israeli consulates. That has never changed.

Iran was a good friend of Israel prior to the Islamic revolution and the Ayatollahs coming to power.

Since then Iran has been on the war path and while Israel and America are it's main target, the rest of Europe is as well.

They are just as angry over gay pride in Dublin or Berlin as anything that Jews do.

Which is why so many in the West are talking up Iran.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,005 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

I personally think it is better that Iran is sorted now, as it will only continue to grow as a problem.

Look at it building drone factories in Russia, it sees a strategic need for Russia to win in Ukraine because of the threat and damage to Europe that that entails.

The Comrades in the West just see it as helping Putin against the Jew in Kyiv and helping rebuild the ussr, Iran is probably the most resolutely anti Socialist State in existence but they don't care about that.

I would prefer to see change from within, an attack from outside forces could work in the regimes behaviour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,973 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

You are dead wrong about Israel and Iran being enemies since the Islamic revolution. Israel was the main supplier of weapons and advisors to Iran during the Iran-Iraq war.

The US organised a coup against the democratically elected government, installing the puppet Shah. An obscene, corrupt tyrant. Iran was attacked by Iraq which was funded by the US
Do you support attacks on consulates in general or only when Israel attacks them?

Ideally but doubt it will happen, the regime still has a majority support and especially in the ethnic majority.

A lot of the kurds and others, who drove the protest against the head cloth violence are not but they are not enough.

Netanyahu has Carte Blanche and he knows it.

A very dangerous position for the world to be in in when you have a reckless revenge seeking Western backed leader where no rules or boundaries apply .Netanyahu knows that whatever he does , he will be backed to the hilt by the USA and his Western colleagues

"Israel has a right to defend it self" as President Ursula von der leyden so chillingly put it as tens of thousands of kids become corpses

if Israel attacked Turkey tonight, killing tens of thousands….before any reason or rationale or explanation would be issued by Israel… you’d have millions of their supporters, fanboys/girls worldwide just cheering them on.

There is no fair rationale for their behaviour yet people just.. “ yeah, but Israel and Jewish people, once treated badly that’s why…

Just backed and backed despite so many violent indiscretions.

If Russia is relying on Iran to win its war then it has a serious problem. And let’s remember that Israel’s position on that war has been fairly nuanced, quite different from the US and most of Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,587 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

Netanyahu can’t resist showing off. When the notorious traitor and Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard arrived in Israel, he was publicly greeted by Netanyahu at Ben Gurion airport. There was absolutely no need to add insult to injury like that given how much the US has done for Israel.

  • If I were an Israeli, I'd feel somewhat justified to act in self-defence more so than any other country.

A great deal of the world hold the country in contempt, despite the fact that many Jewish people were exterminated during the Holocaust only 80-years ago; and most people, from my personal experience at least, hold at least one conspiracy theory about "the Jews". It's widespread, though most people daren't admit their racism in public. They instead express it through hatred of the existence of Israel itself. Even if Palestinians were given a state today, the hatred of Israel and the conspiracy theories would persist — as they have for 2,000+ years.

Israel is surrounded by countries that have continuously attacked it since 1948.

Yes, maybe they have every right to feel the need to defend themselves.

On the Iran attack, let's not forget that Iran has expressed the desire to wipe Israel from the face of the Earth; a country run by fanatical Islamist theocratic fascist scumbags. I would take their word seriously, and Israel was attacked on October 7 precisely because Iran funded and helped organize the attack through their tentacled proxy-organism that infects Gaza, namely Hamas.

So whilst many people are almost obsessed with Israel and the slogans and so on, when you take an objective step back, it isn't quite as some would like to portray it to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,902 ✭✭✭TokTik

This “self defence” theory is absolute nonsense.

If I got into an argument tonight in the pub and someone said they were gonna kill me, should I wipe out his family and take their land?? Seems only fair, self defence and all.

If any of the neighbours look at me crookedly I could then take their land and force them into homelessness, just in case like.

Standing back it looks like Israel is governed by fanatical Zionist religious fundamentalist scumbags. So not so different to Iran then.

Absolutely it should respond to October terrorism but any right thinking person can see murdering 20,000+ innocent children and their mothers will not destroy Hamas. It is commiting war crimes and objectively starving 2.5m people out of existence. It is on the precipice of losing Israel all its allies, except the fundamentalist religious right wing nuts in the US who are waiting on the second coming and in their deluded heads need carnage in Israel first before big Jeebus returns.

    Religious claptrap on all sides.

Short term insanity for absolutely no gain. It is playing into the hands of Hamas. That's my objective step back.

  • It's the disproportionate obsession with Israel that makes no sense.

People are in the streets condemning Israel for their treatment of Palestinians, whether rightly or not isn't relevant here, because when Muslims are ethnically cleansed in China in the Xinjiang province, we see no mass protests at all. Similarly, when Bashar al-Assad massacres hundreds of thousands of fellow Muslims, not a peep in the streets.

So the question becomes: what's the difference?

Why pretend to care about Muslims in Palestine, but not in China and Syria and elsewhere?

And the difference is, you've guessed it, Israel is a Jewish state.

It's anti-Semitism that fuels the hatred, not their support of Muslim people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,902 ✭✭✭TokTik

Nope. It’s the fact that israel is using western weapons, backed by “moral” western leaders to commit this genocide.

Look at Russia, did half the damage, killed a lot less people in Ukraine yet sanctioned to the hilt. Kicked out of sporting competitions etc yet israel has had nothing done against it. Mealy mouthed words while being provided with the weapons to commit their war crimes.

It’s like a parent giving out to their child about bullying whilst handing them the rocks to throw at the kid they’re bullying.

Wow. Russia did half the damage you for real. Going by your post you are Russian sympathizer put also terrorist sympathizer Get of Tik tok its killing your brain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,902 ✭✭✭TokTik

Ukraine is still standing. Gaza is not. Compare deaths in both. It’s called a comparison. I’m not backing Russia, just pointing out awkward facts to the Zionists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭Longing

No its called nic picking. Russia Ukraine war casualties rate is in the hundred of thousands and you are comparing it to Gaza. Russia Ukraine war is on a completely different level. Just pointing out real facts to terrorist sympathizers. Just to remind you Gaza would be still standing today but the choose there faith on Oct 7 2023.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭Longing

It was. The destruction of Gaza. You can sugar coated anyway you like but Gaza would not have seen the destruction today before Oct 7. Then Oct 7 came well you know and everyone else knows.

Oct 7th seems to have been the Zionists Kristalnacht, giving them full power to enact their Final Solution. History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

Israels exceptionalism is based on having the largest military in the world at its back and a finger hovering over a huge Armageddon button pointed at the world. It has little to do with what is right or wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,148 ✭✭✭volchitsa

Well that's just about right. Jews were murdered on Kristallnacht, and murdered again on October 7th. Both were anti Jewish pogroms. The difference being that in 2023, unlike 1938, the Jews had decided they were no longer prepared to be murdered without fighting back.

No Gaza was not fine especially when Hamas is running the show. Now when things are speed up as you say the destruction of Hamas is closer than ever only then can the first cornerstone be set for a road to peace.

Quote: Ports all ready blockaded. Military patrol on the sea and border.

If so how did thousands upon thousands of rockets enter Gaza from Iran. You don't have to answer that I know already my point is this hysteria that there was a iron curtain around Gaza before this all kicked off is utter nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,063 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Something I came across recently -

Israel committing Genocide and War Crimes against Palestinians did not start in 2023. There was violence against Palestinians every day. You can't be defending yourself while occupying a country.

    1. Haifa Massacre 1937.
    2. Jerusalem Massacre 1937.
    3. Haifa Massacre 1938.
    4. Balad el-Sheikh Massacre 1939.
    5. Haifa Massacre 1939.
    6. Haifa Massacre 1947.
    7. Abbasiya Massacre 1947.
    8. Al-Khisas Massacre 1947.
    9. Bab al-Amud Massacre 1947.
    10. Jerusalem Massacre 1947.
    11. Sheikh Bureik Massacre 1947.
    12. Jaffa Massacre 1948.
    13. Khan Yunis Massacre 1956.
    14. Jerusalem Massacre 1967.
    15. Sabra and Shatila Massacre 1982.
    16. Al Aqsa Massacre 1990.
    17. Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre 1994.
    18. Jenin Refugee Camp 2002.
    19. Gaza Massacre 2008/09.
    20. Gaza Massacre 2012.
    21. Gaza Massacre 2014.
    22. Gaza Massacre 2018/19.
    23. Gaza Massacrer 2021.
    24. Present Gaza Massacre - ongoing.

But concentrate on an isolated incident by an Islamist in Europe. All murders are evil regardless of who commits them.

People are on the streets in western countries because the governments in western countries are either backing Israel or doing very little to try to mitigate their actions.

Our governments don't support ethnic cleansing in China so why protest on the streets.

Israel do have a right to defend themselves but their actions in Gaza over the years and especially now have always been to extreme. Civilian casualties have never been a major concern.

The genocide of Palestinians started even before the foundation of the state of Israel. The state of Israel was created through acts of ethnic cleansing of the native population by European immigrants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,074 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

Most of Hamas rockets are homemade, powered by sugar and fertilizer with homemade or salvaged warheads. I haven't seen any reports of Iran supplying Hamas with thousands and thousands of rockets.

Kinda defeats your argument that there has no blockade. Even aid agencies have claimed the food Israel allowed into Gaza prior to Oct 7 was insufficient in terms of calories to feed the population.
