You don't. Not with the right in America the way it is. Nothing wrong being right wing in general, but when you allow religious extremism to become your manifesto, and have an absolute degenerate scumbag like Trump as your moral compass, they've effectively surrendered their sanity and identity to the warped logic of Donald Trump's scumbag gangster style deranged mental state and declared him God on Earth.

They want a system where politics is utterly broken so they can reach a situation where the federal government no longer exists, a mad mix sort of like Russia where Trump is dictator instituting a religious system of governance and insularism like the Taliban. Sort of like the Divided States of Western Russia Trumpistan.

Due to the rise of the ultra-religious right in America, at it's current direction and speed of it, it's either civil war, dissolution of the Union, or become an ungovernable and unforgiving police state which bans politics altogether. Or the right succeeds, and it becomes the Divided States of Western Russia Trumpistan

There is a Blackadder quote which seems apt today:

Melchett: Anything to say before we kick off, Captain Darling?

Darling: May it please the court, as this is clearly an open and shut case, I beg leave to bring a private prosecution against the defence council for wasting the court's time

Melchett: Granted. Council, he is fined fifty pounds for turning up.

Those people only have a thin veneer of religiosity to add a sense of righteousness to their exceptionalism. For this reason, it's easy to understand why the American Christian fundamentalists gloss over all that loving the least of one's fellows bollocks from the New Testament, but are all in on that bit where God hurls burning slag at Sodom and Gomorrah. To them, God's plan for the world includes one where America has an iron-clad white European ascendency. There's nothing specific about this in the Bible, but they're not going to let that stop them pursuing the goal. They'll twist the word of God endlessly, or pick and choose the verses of the Bible which would appear to superficially agree with this or at least aids progress towards it.

They'd vote for Satan if he promised to establish the theocracy they want and defend their decision by saying that he was a 'baby Christian', as they've called Trump.

Truth Social stock getting absolutely minced in pre-market trading.

And this is before the trial starts…

He tried to pull a Zuckerberg on the co-founders by diluting their stock by issuing more shares

As it stands ,everybody but Trump is going to lose their shirt here - So pretty much a standard Donald Trump business model.

He hasn't put a penny of his own money into this, so everything he gets from the shares is pure profit for him - He's got 75/80 Million shares already and now he's in line to get another 36M shares so even a share price of only a few dollars makes him several hundred million dollars for absolutely nothing.

    Con-man extraordinaire.

OK, don't go to town on me, but this trial is for the pornstar payment?

what was the last trial for? Rape? and he has to pay nearly half a billion dollars, to who?

or was it over valuing his properties?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 15,454 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

Yes.. The one starting is for the hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels and unlike the others so far , this one is a Criminal case with the possibility of a Prison sentence if convicted.

The two previous ones that have had judgements were both civil cases.

He was found liable for sexual assault (but the Judge said we can call it RAPE) and was fined $83M dollars , on top of an earlier fine of ~$10M relating to the same case.

He was also found liable for fraud relating to the valuations of his properties (High for loans/insurance , low for taxes) and was fined ~$450M plus interest for that one.

Also up for consideration today is whether the bond he has submitted for his appeal of the Fraud judgement is valid.

If it's found not to be valid (and it isn't in many many different ways) then the NY AG can start seizing his assets straight away.

    Agreed.

The combination of that and Citizens United is what has the US is the absolute state it is in right now.

From my understanding, the most recent ones are as follows:

    • The "Half Billion" trial - This is a civil case taken by the state of New York against the Trump organization for overvaluing his properties to the tune of nearly half a billion US Dollars. Trump has been found guilty and been ordered to pay the entire amount, plus interest, to the state of New York. Trump is appealing but due to New York regulations, he is required to provide a bond for the duration of the appeals process if he wants to avoid having his assets seized. He can appeal without the bond, but his assets would be liable to seizure in the meantime.
    • The "Rape" trial - This is another civil trial, brought by journalist E. Jean Carroll, as far as I've been able to gather, under a special New York law that allows victims of sexual assault to bring charges against their attacker even after the statute of limitations had expired. Trump lost this trial and has been ordered to pay 92 million US dollars. His appeal was defeated, but he was able to find a company to guarantee a bond for the entire sentencing. This is a confusing one as I'm not sure whether the 92 million is purely for the assault, for a first defamation lawsuit that Carroll brought against Trump, or for a second defamation lawsuit because Trump just isn't able to STFU.
    • The "porn star" trial - This, as stated above, is a criminal trial brought against Trump by the state of New York with regards to his actions involving the hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. This does involve the prospect of prison time, and since this once again is being brought under New York state law, Trump wouldn't be able to pardon himself if he were to get reelected.

This is just an extremely high level overview. Trumps legal matters have gotten so confusing it honestly breaks my brain. I don't envy people like Devin Stone, who runs the YouTube channel Legal Eagle, who try to stay on top of everything.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Reading the details of the submission from "DJT" this morning - They are applying to release another 21.5M shares AND to sell 146M shares.

Now , there are currently only 136.7M shares outstanding so applying to sell 146M is basically ALL the shares outstanding and some of the newly created ones as well.

The only way they can sell that many shares is if the 6 Month block is removed to allow Trump to sell his shares as he owns 75/80M shares already.

So , basically they are cashing out and running for the hills, hence the absolute slaughter of the share price happening today.

    Ponzi-scheme , simple as that.

If he's "Irish" it can only be in the same way that a lot of Americans claim Irish heritage.

His father and grandfather were all born in the US as were his maternal parents/grand parents..

He was never Irish, he was from Virginia.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

It'll be free money for him regardless of how much it drops. What will happen to that money though?

Being a a patriotic, born and bred Virginian was kind of his thing if I remember correctly.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 15,454 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

Further details show that Trump himself is looking to sell 115M shares , which is his entire current stake plus the majority of the "bonus" shares that he's due to get.

Nothing says "This is a great company with a fantastic future" like it's namesake dumping his entire holding a few weeks after the IPO.

Once again though the slimy bugger makes bank while everyone else is left taking a beating. - No matter what the share price , it's all profit for him.

    Absolute scam artist..

It'll be free money for him regardless of how much it drops. What will happen to that money though?

If the ruling on his "bond" in NY goes against him today , the money will be going straight to the NY AG's account.

If she's given the go ahead to seize assets she absolutely HAS to seize the shares , his melt-down would be magnificent…

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,329 ✭✭✭ronjo

who is going to buy it? Is it a scam for people to actually give him cash without announcing they are doing it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,604 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Read earlier that a lot of MAGA, specifically older folks, are buying shares to both support Trump, and because they believe the value will rise because they're shares in a Trump company. Some have invested $20k+

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 15,454 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

That's certainly a significant concern - An easy way to get past the "foreign influence" type rules and any other campaign finance restrictions.

The only other people buying it are the MAGA's who are happily emptying their pension accounts to give to this gimp.

No one is buying it because it's a good company with any chance of profitability.

    Heh. TFG said so:

"Gettysburg, wow—I go to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to look and to watch," he said. "And the statement of Robert E. Lee, who's no longer in favor—did you ever notice it? He's no longer in favor. 'Never fight uphill, me boys, never fight uphill.' They were fighting uphill, he said, 'Wow, that was a big mistake,' he lost his great general. 'Never fight uphill, me boys,' but it was too late," Trump added."

If you listen to it, it sounds like he's imitating the Lucky Charms cartoon leprechaun. So, TFG clearly thinks Lee was Irish. Far be it for me to dispute him /jk

There’s a certain tragic irony that the party of Abraham Lincoln, the man who 200 years ago stood at a memorial in Gettysburg and gave his famous speech about the defence of democracy and freedom, would also share in its roster of Presidents; this…. «man». This absolute bed-pan of an individual who attempts to quote a Confederate general to appeal to a cohort of people who long for a reality where Gettysburg led to the defeat of the Union and that large chunks of the American South would to this day be some kind of unending apartheid nightmare built upon slavery. But even in that attempt he couldn’t be arsed to read a book (or watch Ken Burns ffs…love that series) he instead makes up some incoherent “olden times” prattle to try to sound knowledgeable about a thing that his pathetic little noggin would never truly grasp.

American historians must hope he loses in November, because in addition to all of the other horrible things, they should expect to see Sharpie marks all over anything Donnie has decided to “paraphrase”.

So here goes another court case for trump which yet again will enlarge his voting base further. This is mana from heaven for the trump, he loves this stuff, revels in it and so does his base. Fascinating

I guess the only upside is that the vast majority of those being fleeced are his own supporters. Very few rational people will be impacted.

They would have lost the money to foreign princes and princesses anyway.
