Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I see Militao is on the bench tonight for Real. I'm very surprised he's not starting. If you are worried about his fitness you should start him and if he needs to come off that's fine but you can't bring him on because that could cost you two substitutions.

Militao is a class act, he'd make a huge difference for them defensively.

    That City team is mad.

Rodri, Bernardo, De Bruyne, Haaland, Foden is just an incredible 5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,297 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

I'd have Modric starting instead of Kroos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Better to bring him on I think. He started last year and just didn't have the legs, got totally overrun by City's physicality and never had time or space to display his talents. But with 20 or 30 minutes left, with that little bit of extra time - like last week - Modric can be a game changer.

Even still, I really fear it might be like last year again - a tighter contest in Madrid, with City taking control in Manchester.

i see nothing but a City romp, unless they're off it a bit, which is obviously possible.

what i will say though is that Walker will be an interesting one. Pep is obviously worried about Vini, and Walker hasn't played in quite a while. if fully fit, he'll likely do what's needed and nullify the pace that hurt last week. if not, Real have a puncher's chance.

So you are making accusations of fixing which went against a the team actually being investigated for fixing 🤣

    Cagey stuff

That's the start to the game we needed!

Madrid 1 nil up !! Rodrygo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

this is a stunning start from Madrid, never mind the goal.

it's a while since i've seen a team keep the ball this confidently against City. they're not panicking and playing through the press.

    can they keep it going?

    1-0 real!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,297 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Long diagonal balls in behind thats the way to beat City.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,048 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Makes a game of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

the key is, most teams don't have the quality to keep the ball long enough to do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Also need to keep at least two players in properly threatening positions, instead of all getting pulled deep over time. One player left up will be smothered, but City can sometimes struggle against two good speedsters, and it stops Rodri from committing to those edge-of-the-box arrivals too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Bloody hell, the screw already turning. Tip in for Silva if he'd been on his toes as quickly as Rodrygo was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,297 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

De Bruyne looks at least a stone overweight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,089 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Real lazy defending there from Trent at the back post to first play Rodrygo onside and then leave him with all the space to get 2 shots on goal away.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

seems like city have an extra player. anytime a real player gets the ball he is instantly swarmed by 3 city players

Unlucky bounce for Vinicius there… a bit of luck and he was away. City sticking to their plan and leaving those spaces for Real to attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,297 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Real playing well, look dangerous on the break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,048 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Hes still got in behind the defence twice if he had picked better passes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

They kinda do in a way… committing extra bodies to the press higher up, leaving themselves a bit lighter at the back, and just gambling that they'll make it too hard to find the free options.

Normally it works as lads don't have the quality to keep calm and find the pass to runners smart enough to make the right move, but Madrid's quality gives 'em a chance of getting out of that press and hurting them very quickly.

Bit of an El Camino Todd about him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Madrid doing ridiculously well to keep City scoreless currently.

City have been at their best for the last 15 minutes.

You can't let City have so much of the ball though. They'll get a good chance sooner....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,975 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

No way I'd bench Kroos but I'd have Modric instead of Camavinga..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,635 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Apart from diving for frees and buying yellow cards, Grealish is offering nothing. He is just slowing down City's attack every time with no end product. Foden and KDeB in the other side move the ball really quickly and are causing trouble, buy not happening on tge left side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,975 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

1-0 at the half, I fell like Real need another and I mean for 2-0 up to have a 'real' chance of doing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,297 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Clinical from Rodrygo says Ferdinand on TNT.

First one came off his shin…

Are you mad? Camavinga is an exceptional midfielder who's an absolute machine at covering ground. There's no point having Modric in midfield sauntering around the place while City run around him with ease.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,471 ✭✭✭FintanMcluskey

Real didn't give up any clear cut chances as of yet, they look more likely to score again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,295 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Not a great start to the second half for Real Madrid.

The counter attack option is not as effective when they are sitting so deep.

Haaland still looks a bit off tonight.

Still though, it looks inevitable that City will score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Absolutely, he's been a big part of what's worked for Madrid. Modric just cant be starting these ultra-high intensity games - great weapon off the bench though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,295 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Nacho taking a sudden dip in form...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Madrid starting to make mistakes now…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,535 ✭✭✭Dave0301

City have Real Madrid on the ropes here. Really hope they nick another on the counter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Ancelotti's Madrid's ability in these games to make the opposition have to beat them is quite something. City scored 3 screamers last week (one a slight keeper error obviously). And it looks like they might have to score another here. Despite City's intensity, Real still somehow stopping them from creating something really clear-cut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭Xander10

When the chances have fallen for City, they have lacked composure so far.

Will Madrid be more clinical and grab the next goal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    City starting to get frustrated.

If Real can hold out for another 15 minutes, it'd really make it interesting.

Real struggling to connect on their passes in order to get through the high press. Too tired?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,105 ✭✭✭mada999

really disappointed in the way Madrid are playing… City are there for the taking on the counter… Fancy City now to win it…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Both players on City's left side on yellows now, could be interesting if Madrid keep pushing down that channel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

genuinely feel fatigue is setting in. there were a couple of really good passes into space out of defence that Real players just didn't anticipate, choosing to drop back in defence instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,023 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Elsewhere, Bayern ahead. Arsenal goosed I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    thats some header by kimmich

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,105 ✭✭✭mada999

aye very strange…. City players dont look any way tired at all…

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,978 ✭✭✭BenK

Real giving very little up here. City aren't creating any clear cut chances.

Pep is going to have to make some changes soon.

Martinelli absolutely losing Kimmich for the Bayern goal there.
