looks hauntingly familiar - ABS sensor is exactly what went for me that christmas tree'd the dash.

Main garage can do it and charge through the roof unfortunately. Aliexpress link given a few weeks ago with the part though if you know any indies that would sort.

Thanks. I guess I'll order a pair of these (a second for when the next one fails) and look for a local indie willing to try an install. It looks fairly straightforward on the YouTube videos but still beyond what I would dare to try.

    OBD…but yeah, right option.

Note a Hyundai compatible obd is needed to show which side needs replacing and cheap DIY ones won't work. Most half decent independent garages should be able to read Hyundai codes using aftermarket readers. Nearly all garages don't like fitting cheap Chinese parts for fear the won't work and the labour is so much if the cost anyway, but Hyundai want 300 euro per side for the parts.

I'd just get both replaced at the same time. Whichever side is ok is bound to go in the next 12-18 months anyway so might as well while it's up on a lift, and will likely cost a bit less than getting them done individually. Ballpark of €200-300 from a good indy I'd say for both.

I need a gas refilled as its not working at all.

Got a quote from an indie of 240 to 300!

    Want recommendations?

In the hope of getting it done quicker, I decided to try the nearest Hyundai dealer. I gave them a call Saturday afternoon and they said if I brought the car in first thing on Monday morning, they would try to fit me in for a quick look

So I try that and arrive at opening time. I must have hit them on the wrong Monday because they wouldn't go near the car without an appointment (which they could only give me later in the week). Minimum fee for a diagnostic/OBD reading would be €120 (one hour of labour). The best part is they an absolutely refused to quote me the price for an ABS sensor replacement without having a diagnostic done. I definitely don't expect anything for free but at least a bit of transparency towards the customer before I commit time and money.

Next stop to a nearby indie. OBD reading done in five minutes and happy to try a replacement if I find the part. My only issue is that the only parts I can find online (eBay and Aliexpress) are for delivery in 3-4 weeks. Anyone here manage to find the part with a quicker delivery time?

I drove my car with fault for well over a month, I might order a spare sensor myself in case the other one goes

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,374 ✭✭✭baldshin

I couldn't find one with a quicker delivery time. I drove mine for 5 months with the issue. Car is still driveable, you just won't have regen, cruise control, lane assist, abs etc. Takes getting used to.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,539 ✭✭✭eagerv

One of the sensors went on ours over 2 years ago. Took about 6 weeks for the part to arrive, but Christmas and New Year slowed things up. Drove the car as normal but certainly seemed strange with no regen (Even on the brake pedal). And efficiency went out the window..

I have 2 new abs sensors that are available at cost. I ordered 2 but ended up changing the bearings too so have 2 spare. Hyundai logo ed. PM me

Thanks but our 28kWh was replaced by a 5 over two years ago. But I am sure may be helpful to others.

Seems I’m not having much luck with the Ioniq. Both rear sensors replaced but the same error lights are now back a few days later. The problem seems slightly different this time: shows when I start the car, goes away for a few minutes when I start driving and comes back again. Perhaps one of the sensors wrongly installed or something else?

I am trying to connect the car to an OBD dongle (a Bluetooth ELM327 connecting to an iPhone, car scanner app). The app connects fine with the dongle but the dongle won’t connect to the ECU. I’ve tried various apps, connection profiles etc but just doesn’t work. What dongle and app do you all use?

Hey, did you ever get sorted with this? Finally got my ioniq but I'm finding it hard to source the oil listed in the video.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,734 ✭✭✭zg3409

I got oil from local motor factors. There should be some equivalent.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,734 ✭✭✭zg3409

Ideally use android phone and apps like soul EV spy to read battery state of health. HOWEVER I never got any cheap app to read the abs sensor codes for wheel sensors. You probably need garage level laptop based diagnostics costing 400 euro+ and Hyundai is not great for aftermarket tools in Europe. I suggest EV specialist unfortunately although most garages should have the equipment and skills to solve and faults on a Hyundai.

The crowd in Arklow are best but they wanted to use genuine Hyundai parts, partly to reduce the risk of faults and messing.

I tried a local factors but they didn't stock the recommended 70W GL4 type oil recommended. Ive seen some debate as to whether this is really necessary as the 75W is much easier to come by but I'd rather stick to the recommended one at least for the first oil change.

In case anyone else is having the same issue I found this online last night. Seems to meet the specs required but it's pricey!

    Tyre change time coming up.

    What tyres should I consider.

The Michelin tyres on the back are original and Michelin have since replaced that model of tyre with the newer e Primacy.

The Hankooks on the front work well from a driving viewpoint but wear is quite heavy on them.

    Anything else worth considering?????.

I am 99% sure this is the tyre I used on my now sold ioniq 28kWh

I got mine locally, they can often get it in if not in stock. Maybe ring around as many motor factors do t have stock on their websites. They often have cross reference charts to get equivalent.

I used this pump to make getting out of bottle and up to gearbox easier.

I'm on my second set of Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 - very happy with them.

Order them from Oponeo and get a local-ish tyre place that's affiliated with them to fit.

Are you looking at 1.6 petrol hybrids? I don't have any experience with them and very few were sold which may be an issue down the road getting parts and service.

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭PaddyCar

Sorry. They have taken that ad down as I put a deposit on it. It was a 19 ioniq electric premium model with 38k miles for €12.5k. General feeling reading back over these pages is that its a solid car and should suit my needs as second family car for shortish journeys. It has FSH but was just asking if there was anything in particular I should get checked. Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,682 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    Not just shortish journeys.

For 28kWh main thing is to get gearbox oil changed at independent garage. Fear wheel sensors tend to go on both sides at around 500 euro each including labor. Door handle press buttons can go and rear handles can break. Check for service history, check when warranty runs out, at what miles and age. Replace 12 volt battery and keep a small jump pack in glove box. You can read battery health yourself with phone app and odb dongle but I would not bother with such low mileage. Check for crash damage under bonnet and under boot floor. Check tyres and for gearbox noise and vibrating steering wheel at high speed. Usual inspection things make sure every button works and that sat nav has been updated, post up software version. Real world range of ioniq at high speed in winter may be as low as 140km or 70km from home.

Iits a UK 28kWh you can change some displays from miles to km but main speed is miles only with small km display below. Main range to empty is miles only on driver dash but km in radio menu.

Anyone ever have this happen on the back bumper? Only just noticed it today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 530 ✭✭✭raddo

Hi all, car went for NCT today but failed on the Handbrake. The Handbrake switch was broken but I could still use it. Before the test I was told that it might fail cause of that. Seemed like the plastic in the switch had cracked, so I glued it. Unfortunately the switch wouldn't work after and then failed. Has this part broken for anyone else? Did you get a replacement? Any info would be great

Yes mine became unusable about 2 years ago, it was still within warranty at the time so Hyundai replaced it. Same with the button for the drivers window, it became somewhat loose and unreliable so that was also replaced. Both working perfectly fine ever since.

I recommend ring EV breakers in newry. They may have one from a crashed car in stock. Also ask main dealer for just switch with no fitting. It may be a reasonable or unreasonable amount. It may take a long time for dealer to get from Korea.
