Cant wait. 4 or 5 could win it. Williams last victory adding a bit of spice!

Trump vs Vafaei a tasty day 1.

Will be at the Crucible a few days this week, hopefully a drink or two at the Graduate and all.

Best make the most of Sheffield in April, in case the loons do move it from 2027

I see Robertson is joining the BBC in the Winter Garden next week for analysis.

And Fergal O'Brien will be commentating on Eurosport, as Dominic Dale has qualified, so Fergal can take over his slots.

I absolutely love Fergal on commentary. He’s class.

I assume a routine win for carter no?

    Brecel off to a flier

Just tuned in . On first glance tables may be playing easy. Will know soon enough

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,454 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Any chance you could stop banging on about the tables for these two weeks kirk? You've your opinion, may or may not be shared by others. But 10 years of randomly posting 'that red shouldn't have gone in' is pub-bore stuff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,208 ✭✭✭drury..

Nah I'll post as I see fit

It doesn't have to be all positive

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,824 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

It makes you sound like the auld moany fella who says he could have gone pro in "his day" if he played on tables that were that "easy" now.

It has long been discussed that the pockets are not wider, it is the cloth that is more accepting on the corners (particularly on the cushion). But the middle pockets are definitely playing harder than they ever were. So swings and roundabouts. This has been repeated to you on numerous occasions by numerous posters. But it does not seem to be sinking in.

So I propose a solution once and for all -

What I thought of was a boards snooker meetup. Posters can go to club of your choice and all watch you do the standard `"line up" on a "championship standard" table to see how "easy" it is. If you manage it without missing we will all buy you a few pints and say. "Well done". And your repetitive mantra will be proven. If you miserably fail on the "easy" pockets you can instead "caulk" it up to experience.

It's tired. Tired like 'The Dreaded DDK'

Would be great if Maguire gets a run the tournament. Has to be one of the big underachievers in snooker. Loads of talent. Application the issue.

I like Maguire. But he has the worst temperament in snooker.

A bit like Carter I suppose, temprement wise.

But Maguire has so much talent, it feels like a real waste. I mean he is capable of winning the thing if he plays like he can for two weeks. To think that Dott has won a WC and the likes of Maguire has not is mad. When you think of it the two of them must have practiced together in Scotland.

I'd hazard a guess theres been lifestyle issues at play in Maguire underachieving

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,208 ✭✭✭drury..

Dont recall saying the pockets were wider ?

You seem to agree with me that the tables are easier

And no I won't be going on and on about it

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,824 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I said aspects are playing easier, some aspects are playing harder.

    There is a distinction.

I must have been confusing you with another poster "kirk" who was saying the pockets were wider etc.

The mental side of the game is the key part at this level anyway. Varfaei showing he just does not have it between the ears. Table conditions (which are the same for everyone) are only secondary to the mental side of the sport.

I seem to remember he said something similar himself.

Scrappy stuff here from Brecel and Gilbert.

But round one, you just need to get to 10

The banana skin round. So many have fallen over the years.

Was it Tony Knowles that clobbered Davis when he was defending

BBC doing a lot of shuffling round channels as usual

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,824 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Yeah it was. But this match summed up Brecel. Great on the flashy shots. Brutal at the bread and butter.

If I was his coach I would make him sit through each frame of that match and look at his shot selection etc. I think he needs it. That is what Doyle used to do with Hendry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,465 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Brecel packed it in a bit early at the end. Only one snooker needed and 67 available.

Expect him to go through the motions for a few more shots there, under the circumstances, considering that's him done now for the summer, you don't have to play until August if you fancy a long break.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

Not surprised at all by Brecel exit tbh, he's not a player that likes things being expected of him, he's the type that likes to go under the radar and come out of nowhere with a win, like he did last year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,465 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

He appears to be suffering from a throat infection or flu, he certainly collapsed badly this evening from a 6-3 lead, and Gilbert was not setting the World on fire either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,205 ✭✭✭Spudman_20000

"Heavy is the head that wears the crown' as the expression goes.

Brecel has had a poor season and I wonder was he just not that comfortable being world champion.

Not playing on for one snooker last night showed me he wanted out of there.

Only the 2nd day and there's already no TV coverage 🤔

BBC1 taken up by Marathon. It annoys me they don't just open BBC4 early and it keep all the snooker there for the two weeks. No messing then between red button, BBC1,BBC2, website etc.

I have the red button on the statlite. I retuned everything - strangely I am "snookered" for the ITV4 competitions it has disappeared. I can only get ITV4 +1.

Just caught the end of Jones v Anda. From the sound of it not much was missed Jones walloped him handy. Session to spare.
