GP not accepting Medical Card, What are my option

Hi All

I stay in Dublin 4 and our GP do not accept Medical Card for our newborn infants. What should i do here?

Do you mean that he is not accepting additional patients because his practice is already full?

Common problem and bad form. Go to the HSE and they have to assign you a GP. I was in this position a few years back. I was given a SME (Study Medicine Europe) doctor. Alarm bells rang. Completely useless, had to go to a herbalist for a solution and then tried to swoop in to get the credit later. Find out about SME and know it, identify it and avoid it.

IIts best to keep the whole family under the one practice for pattern analysis and convenience

Nope, the response was they do not have that facility

You need 3 doctors to refuse you. Go to the HSE with the names and they'll assign a gp

Send an email to a selection of GPs that goes something like line:

Dear Dr X

I wish to register myself X (PPSN or DOB) and my family X (POSNs or DOBs) with your practice, if you can take us on.

Our address is: X

Our contact phone number is: X

Put contact email is: X

Please inform us if we can register with you. Thanking you for your kind attention.

Thanks, we have a GP registered not willing to take medical cards and expects to pay for our child's visit. He is willing to register.

Some doctors arent part of the medical card scheme. Not uncommon in more wealthy areas where there are enough paying patients that they dont need to bother with medical cards.
