    The one thing I did remember back when Aer Lingus flew to Stuttgart is that it was impossible to book a flight from, say the US and then connecting to Stuttgart under one single booking code. There was some kind of legality or other agreement Aer Lingus had to follow that prevented that from happening.

    Thus I'd say the route from Dublin to Stuttgart wasn't for the long run, same as Hannover. Hannover is even worse of an airport than Stuttgart, I must say.

    Stuttgart seasonal service operated until end of summer 2018. There was one year it operted year round but loads were bad, good in summer. It never connected with T/A schedules. Ryanair started a daily service around Oct 2017 so EI exited for 2019 summer season.

    In typical FR fashon they fell out with STR just like FRA and MUC and all routes ended.

    EI kept the route for 8 years, I think there is a reasoable chance it will return.

    Your first picture is Brighton - the tall straight thing is the i360. The last picture is Shoreham by Sea.


    I used to visit Brighton often for gigs back in the day, and my friend when he was still alive. Can easily be daytripped from Dublin.


    If you're in that part of the world take the stopping train from Gatwick and go for a walk around Balcombe and the Ardingly Reservoirs. They're absolutely lovely.

    Does JetBlue still have a close relationship with Aer Lingus? Where does this fit in that relationship?

    Will they continue to codeshare and feed each others short haul networks?

    They still code share with them in the US, I have used them a few times. They have a bad rep in the US but I always found them to be fine. Maybe the relationship is ending soon just like EI and United? I had a look and you can already book Dublin to US on the jetblue site, it's not jumping out as any cheaper to me.

    Re Jet Blue to DUB, it's a very limited offering. A320Neo (not 321LR), that means no ovens so it's cold food on a TA. Season length seems to be short too.

    EI sending out promo emails today mentioning fares to NY & BOS from €179..... the day after JetBlue announce the routes. Plenty of competition now

    For clarity, they're offering service on an A321neo.

    Hot food will be available to Mint passengers, but you're correct – those in the cheap seats will only have cold options.

    That's a bit disappointing. Hopefully it's a temporary restriction.

    Well, with the slop EI provide, I’d be happy to have a decent fresh cold option over that crap. I just bring my own food and eat the odd thing they provide. Have you seen those wraps? Hahaha!

    In the past it was normal for DUB to get the inferior transatlantic product from US carriers – back in the day I remember both DL and UA flying aircraft without seat back TVs in even as flights to the UK had both. More of the same I guess.

    Was certainly true of Delta, they had some of their oldest metal 757's with the non-vacuum toilets! However the increasing wealth of the country and the large corporate demand make Dublin very profitable for most carriers these days.

    From observation on a previous trip, I think the CBP were concerned at people taking food that would not be allowed to be imported to the USA. People in front of me told the officer that they had sandwiches but they were jam. 😁

    I was made throw away a Boots sandwich that I'd literally just bought at the airport to eat at my gate (because there was so little past CBP at the time) before. CBP can be very anal about things when they want to be.

    Could be another two years. Current status is daa have to return documents and information requests to Fingal and Noise competent authority. They have six months to do this from the 16th Feb 2024. It will then have the be reviewed. If Fingal approve, it’s extremely likely this decision will be appealed by the NIMBYs and have to go through the process for An Bord Planeala adding further delays. Rumours Juneyao wanted to come in this year also but went to Brussels / Man instead.

    Is there any chance of Cathay Pacific returning to Dublin? On a similar note, iirc there were talks held between singapore airlines and DAA a number of years ago, is there any possibility of them coming? Appreciate the ME3 own the majority of East traffic from Dublin.

    I note Singapore use fifth freedom flights from Manchester to Houston and always thought that Dublin would be an attractive option for this with US preclearance in Dublin or is the market too small for these to work?

    Cathay won’t be back until the cap is lifted, and besides, Cathay have their own issues at the moment so not necessarily the cap holding them back.

    Cap makes it increasingly difficult for anything to be added in the short term. I saw on a group this afternoon that American Airlines are restarting Charlotte in February next year. It was March this year. 2025 will have a month extra of the service.

    I’m not sure on Singapore, but I have a vague memory of restrictions on 28L10R being a factor in MAN getting the Singapore-MAN- Houston, rather than DUB, at the time, open to correction on that. If I have recalled that correctly, it would be a true example of what’s ahead, e.g. routes lost to the cap, may not come back when it’s lifted as they’ve already established a good thing elsewhere.

    The A359 can get off a wet 28L/10R at MTOW so that isn’t a factor for SIA.

    The cap is likely to be damaging to the national economy for quite some time by the looks of it unfortunately.

    BA seem to have added DUB-LGW flights operated by Emerald. Starting in the next few weeks. An interesting move.

    Orlando Melbourne? I have never seen it called that. That is 100km from Orlando and even though it says an hour, its closer to 2 hours depending on the time of day on the 528 and its a toll road as well.

    Yes TUI call it this. The argument about its name was done to death on social media when they first announced its use a few years ago. They use it specifically to connect in to their cruises out of Port Canaveral. I think they get a better deal from the airport to use it.

    can anyone tell me roughly when do Aer Lingus release their forthcoming schedules? (Spring/Summer 2025)

    we've gotten into going to Sicily once a year in April, I was too late to try their new service on the Catania route this year (had already booked Lufthansa, excellent best service experienced in a long time admittedly love them but just the time/effort factor in changing planes in likes of Frankfurt esp when delays happen ugh)

    want to give EI a go next year

    Was cycling around the airport today and the Emirates flight landed. I stopped to watch it leave the runway and taxi past me. I looked up at the cockpit and the pilot was waving to me. I waved back and gave him a thumbs up. I’m 51 but it brightened my day up 🙂

    A fairly regular occurrence at DUB. Quite a few of the EK flight crew operating the Dublin services are Irish too.

    Not sure exactly when dates will be announced I suppose the cap etc might mean chopping and changing things around

    But if the keep the same schedule as this year it seems a flight goes on a Wednesday, Friday and Sunday I think

    For the 10am announcement, yea I would of thought EI would do their own PR.     It remains to be seen if LHR - PER is a viable route, the suggestion of operating it to Dublin must surely be some sort of a joke.

    Scrap the cap!

    Qantas' latest results show that PER - LHR is one of Qantas' most profitable routes.

    The RASK rose by 5% on the route in contrast to falling RASK across it's network.

    Apparently FCO and CDG are also doing well…so much so Qantas has talked about turning FCO to year round route and CDG to daily. Probably ATH is next and then either FRA or AMS.

    But its very Australian driven point of sale and very driven by an Australian mindset that's used to travelling long distances to get anywhere. To put in perspective how an Australian looks at it, PER - FCO is averaging 15Hrs 40, LAX to MEL is currently 15 hrs 55.

    The one to watch will be Turkish's nonstop Sydney service which commences in 2026. The latest A350-1000 builds can do this non stop.

    The last statistic's I saw are over ten years old now and were from Australia's BITRE, but Ireland - Australia traffic was the No 6 European destination (after UK, France, Italy, Germany then Greece) with traffic averaging approx. 400 passengers each way per week. It's only grown since then.

    15hrs55 flight time, so approx 16hrs35 in your seat with boarding/deboarding, must be so exceptionally awful in economy. The idea of doing that in a middle seat…
