Without much knowledge of the new guys they seem to be assembling an impressive defensive staff. If it works out at all on that side of the ball you'd have to think there is a superbowl window there to open.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭cosatron

so in the crazy nfl world, MVS has 2 super bowl rings and Devante Adams has zip. Hard to believe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭boccers

And unless he moves again it looks like Davante will finish with 0 rings which is such a shame. He is a definite hall of fame talent but might not get there now.

Have seen a lot of people say that Mahomes is having the career they thought Rodgers would have and its hard to disagree from a post-season point of view. The Chiefs defence this year has been lights out which Rodgers never really had so its hard to know. There's so much luck involved in these things as well. If you only took away the Brandon Bostick Seahawks drop and Bahktiari's injury I think Rodgers could have at least 3 or 4 superbowls instead of 1 and he is probably a unanimous top 3 all time QB.

Looks like Josh Jacobs In. David Bahktari, Aaron Jones and Darnell Savage out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Wouldn’t like to see Jones go.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭cosatron

sorry to see Jones and Bahktari gone, great players who embraced the packers culture and community. Bahktari going down with the knee injury cost us the superbowl. Jacobs and McKinney are great signings. go pack go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

I think we were all expecting Bahk to go given his huge cost and minimal impact due to injuries recently, even less surprising considering how close he was to AR12, but he deserves full credit and positive memories for what he achieved with the club.

Jones stings a bit more, I understand the logic as he approaches the RB cliff face of 30 and wasn't willing to take another hit on his salary. Don't blame the guy at all, he's taken franchise friendly hits already and is probably looking at this as his last chance for a payday. He's been the heart of the team for me for a few years now, so I wish him well.

Talking head over heart, with Jacobs we have a comparably high quality RB for a similar cost with 3 fewer years on the clock. It's a good move.

Xavier McKinney is an absolute big dog in a position we really needed to address, top marks from me there.

Feeling positive about the impact. Let's see something interesting at LB, another corner and build a bit of depth on the O-Line between free agency and the draft and I'll be excited for next season.

Jones signing with the Vikings!! Heartbreaking stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,098 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Ya that's a harsh one. I hope he is over the hill now 🤣

I know he was plagued with injury last season but by Jesus he was immense in the run-in and playoffs. He looked back to his explosive best and had real speed. Jacobs is younger but hardly a beacon of health himself! Jones a legend in my eyes and deserved better off GB. Apparently, they asked him to take a 50% pay cut on top of other team-friendly deals he had made before this. Pretty unfair if you ask me but that's the life of an RB I guess. Happy he's getting paid and hope he gets all his money. Nobody can judge him. Wanted to be a Packer but they wouldn't pay him what he's worth so he got the next best deal. Wish it was further away though!

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭boccers

Apparently they offered him €6m and the Vikings are paying him €7m so they weren't miles away but I'd imagine it was the principal of it for him. He deserved better but at the same time they obviously got him value close to correct if he is signing with a Vikings roster that won't be challenging any time soon for similar money. Everything about Jones just screams class act so I hope he is successful there (Except against the Packers) and comes back before long to get his due in Green Bay. Can see him resigning at some stage to retire a Packer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,098 ✭✭✭Jofspring

From what I read the guaranteed money from the Packers was 4m and the guaranteed from Vikings was 6m so a 2m gap. Packers wanted Jones to go from 11m to 4m. Can understand him moving on. Was surprised it was the vikings though and thought he might have more options out there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭cosatron

rumours going around that Micah Hyde might be coming back. F**K yeah, wasn't used properly by dom capers and should never have been let go. Love how aggressive Gute is, the time is now for Love.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Hmmm Jordan Morgan OL picked first by the Packers.

6.5. ..315… what the Packers like as an OL..Apparently is versatile

and could play in the interior if doesn’t work out at tackle.

Interesting pick with Mims and Barton not taken.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

Missing Cooper Dejean after the Eagles trade up a little disappointing, but Edgerrin Cooper and Javon Bullard are two absolutely cracking picks for me.

Jordan Morgan seemed a bit of a stretch yesterday but absolutely feels like a Gute type pick. Fills a need and versatile. Neither under nor overwhelmed with Morgan......totally whelmed

Hopper was a great pick! 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭pedatron

Very happy with the draft so far. Lots of needs being seen to. A CB would have been nice too but you can't have it all!

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭boccers

Apparently the 7th round pick was projected 2nd or even 1st round pick before a disastrous 2023 so maybe if he can get back close to that previous level there might be something there. Don't have to look too far back to find a 7th round CB they picked previously that ended up starting as a rookie and playing well!

Hopefully Stokes can get back to his rookie level and Valentine kicks on. If any of these happen then the backfield could be a real strength. Add in a new DC with a new scheme and the defence as a whole could improve massively. We have thought that before though so I'll reserve judgement but it certainly looks as though the pieces are there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭pedatron

I didn't know that. Hopefully, he can regain his previous form. Definitely worth the punt so! Excited to see our defensive plan with ethe new DC. It surely can't be any more infuriating than the last 3 years considering the players we had and now have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Opposition with a 3rd and 17…. Bang … down the middle ..TE collects unscathed 18 yds from the line of scrimmage.

Tell me those days will be history!

NFC North could be tough to get out of next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Ed Policy is replacing Mark Murphy after retirement next year.

Seems like a sound dude who will keep the PACK as perennial contenders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

Fake drama doing the rounds on Jordan Love at the moment. Some places making out like it's a big deal that he's refusing to practice until he has a new contract.....but given that he currently has zero future guaranteed money, it absolutely makes sense that he won't put himself at risk until he has signed on the dotted line.

Expecting it to be something in the $55-57m per year region, leaning towards the latter for a bigger number than Trevor Lawrence/Joe Burrow but with less guaranteed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,098 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Ya saw they were trying to make a big deal of it alright. He then arrived out for full practise with LaFleur. He didn't take part fully but he was there and went through everything else bar the suiting up and taking reps. I'd say it'll be sorted in the next few days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Yeah…they extended Kenny Clarke lately, its just a matter of time before they reach agreement with #10.

Like to see it happen soon though….bit early for a saga!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

So $220m for 4 years, $55m a year so I was right there (though it hardly took a psychic to predict that in fairness).....but substantially more guaranteed than I expected.

Strap on the pads now J L and start earning it.

hypothetically speaking if one had the dodgy stick with ‘flash media’ where could one see the game?
it may not be coming up under packers/browns!!

AJ Dillon showed all his old flaws after yesterdays game, as opposed to Emmanuel Wilson who was great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Very poor Packers in Denver..Veteran back up QB needed as Clifford and Pratt not cutting it.

    Ryan Tannehill?

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭boccers

It's hard to kno how good Clifford or Pratt can be when they are playing with the 2/3 string OL and receivers but the word all camp has been that Clifford hasn't been good. Pratt maybe has more upside but surely isn't ready to play if Love went down. If he got a season ender it's pretty much season over anyway but if he missed a few games it would be good to hav someone decent and experienced to step in. Dunno if u wanna pay someone like Tannehill decent money to sit on the bench either. It's a hard call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

I would suggest that in practice and in the pre season games the coaches have concerns about both players.

You are correct in your assessment but they need better and more reliable firepower to hold the fort if Love went down for a few games or even to finish out a quarter with a lead.

I think a veteran at this stage would make sense. Its amazing how the quality drops off a cliff with most Back up QBs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Emmanuel Wilson looking tidy against the Ravens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Anders gone, Clifford gone, Pratt gone, Du Boise gone ..thought he might make the 53.

Quadzilla gone for the season as is Tyler Davis IR.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Well its playing 'on the concrete' from now until hopefully next year, how do folk think the Packers will pan out?

NFC North will be a dogfight to get out of in my opinion, other teams have racked up their forces considerably.

Hopefully the Brazil travel for the first game won't spook them , would have liked a couple of games under their belt before that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,769 ✭✭✭raze_them_all_

We will be usual packers, make playoffs, not do much better than that, By all accounts williams is doing all the right thing for the bears, lions are very strong, but these division rivals always seem to **** the bed vs packers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,098 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Its going to be very tough this year. The division looks like it'll be very strong and the Packers now have a target on their backs. Lat year Love started poor and teams definitely left their guards down a bit with him.

The team does look stronger this year though. Jf they make the playoffs I think they'll go all the way to the championship game.

Starting against the Eagles in Brazil isn't ideal but I don't think it'll suit the Eagles either.

The Eagles had a horrendous second half to the year, almost the opposite of the Packers, so its hard to know where they are at. I'd be quite hopeful of a win on Friday.

Until the Bears prove otherwise I don't think we can really say they will be a threat in the Division and the Vikings losing McCarthy probably ends their challenge. Williams looks the real deal but a QB needs OL strength and above average, competent coaching and I'm not sure when we last had either in Chicago. The Lions are very good and will be hard to topple but might find it hard to get over last year. They had a first ever superbowl appearance in their grasp. I think they will win the Division again but think the Packers will easily make the playoffs as a wild card.

Its hard to see a position where there has been downgrading this offseason but plenty where there has been upgrades, most notably at Safety. It doesn't matter much if they don't do it on the field but if we even get mid level competence from the defence (I think we will get better than that) they should be one of the better teams in the league barring catastrophic injury luck.

Rumours of an approach for Tannehill after the Love injury, maybe not so minor after all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Three to six weeks is the best estimate, I hear.

Colts will be no pushover without #10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Keys to a Packers win today in Lambeau.

    1. the run game..will have to work
    2. Playcalling… must be schemed to help Willis
    3. Tackling… must improve here ..make the hits count
    4. Red zone… have to be more productive…. that one will be difficult
    5. General…. the 'big names' must step up ..Gary, Clarke, Jaire, etc. I am expecting a low scoring game.

    Go Packers!!!

expecting to start the season 0-3

No need for panic. I hope Jacobs gets a day off! 32 carries!

indeed….. wonder where were Kenny Clarke,Preston Smith, Rashan Gary today.

    Were they playing😄

Unfortunately we can see the problems when a field goal is missed.

It should have been an easy ride home if they got that.

Daniel Whelan had a great game….. mentioned by MLF in the post game.

With the hapless Titans and injury ridden Rams coming up in 2 of the next 3 games the schedule suddenly looks a lot softer for the games where we'll be missing Jordan Love

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,098 ✭✭✭Jofspring

It was also being said Love might have been ready to go last Sunday and it's not as bad as first thought. He'll probably miss the next game but could be back for Rams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,799 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

I would caution of over confidence for the upcoming games.

Notice how the figures for the run game reduced a lot in the second half…….

There were two big ‘drops’ and a missed field goal by the Colts in there..

The opposition will have studied the tape and like the Colts in the second half will have taken measures.

Hopefully the Pack can be a little more expansive but in my opinion they were quite lucky to beat the Colts, given how the game panned out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭cosatron

'I believe in a thing called love' was back at practice. I think sunday is too soon and leave him until the vikings
